Book excerpt: The Virgin Islands is one of the greatest countries in all of the Caribbean. It's position atop many nations comes through an amalgamation of many things: it's Financial Services Centre, its breath-taking landscapes, the archipelago of islands and the dynamic duo, the people and the culture. Ever necessary, it is also the language of the people which is English that is informally spoken at times that ties the people to the culture and vice versa as the oral tradition of passing on information is alive within it's shores. The ballad of Virgin Islands speech is undoubtedly as much a star of story time as the characters they describe. The Virgin Islands Dictionary chronicles the body of words and phrases that will continue to lend well to that oral tradition and certainly concreting for the Virgin Islands people that their brand of speech has always been what they have always known it to be: extra special. While speaking English is neat. Speaking both English and Spanish would make you impressively bilingual, but speaking English with the special flair of the sweet-sounding VI accent makes you VIlingual The Virgin Islands Dictionary thus is the greatest collection of the words and phrases that the people of the Virgin Islands have come to know and love thus creating a brand of speaking that can encode many meanings. This book guides you on the ins and outs of the "language" and should even teach the newbie how to say anything like a Virgin Islander.

Largely untouched by tourism, they have few high-rise hotels, no time-share condos, no casinos. What they do have is unparalleled beauty, with small picturesque hotels set on beachfronts, in ancient fortresses, in the ruins of sugar mills and on lush mountainsides. On the island of Virgin Gorda, there is Little Dix Bay Resort, built by Laurance Rockefeller; Peter Island Resort occupies another island in its entirety. Among the other islands are Tortola, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke and Beef. The sailing here cannot be beaten and boats gathe.

Book excerpt: British Virgin Islands. Tour Guide. Tortola Island, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, Jost Van Dyke. The Virgin Islands, commonly referred to as the British Virgin Islands (BVI), is a British overseas territory located in the Caribbean to the east of Puerto Rico. The islands make up part of the Virgin Islands archipelago; the remaining islands constitute the US Virgin Islands and the Spanish Virgin Islands. The official name of the Territory is still simply the "Virgin Islands", but the prefix "British" is often used to distinguish it from the neighbouring American territory which changed its name from the "Danish West Indies" to "Virgin Islands of the United States" in 1917. British Virgin Islands government publications continue to begin with the name "The Territory of the Virgin Islands", and the Territory's passports simply refer to the "Virgin Islands", and all laws begin with the words "Virgin Islands". Moreover, the Territory's Constitutional Commission has expressed the view that "every effort should be made", to encourage the use of the name "Virgin Islands".The Virgin Islands consist of the main islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke, along with over fifty other smaller islands and cays. About 15 of the islands are inhabited. The capital, Road Town, is situated on Tortola, the largest island, which is approximately 20 km (12 mi) long and 5 km (3 mi) wide. The islands have a population of about 27,800, of whom approximately 23,000 live on Tortola.
