Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advent silently sneaks up on us, catching us by surprise. Outside, silvery gray landscapes are sighted in every direction. Behind closed doors, glowing amber fires shed light upon what is real. What is lasting. Like a mother who has found her authenticity, advents beauty radiates from within the home. "Bringing Advent Home" was born from a program given by Father Fidelis Albright OFM, back in 1972, when Rosie Gil was a young, newly married woman. Shortly after Father Fidelis's passing, Robert her husband, and Rosie began practicing these advent customs in their home. Rosie began making notes of all the many customs and traditions that Father Fidelis had taught them. Through the years that followed Rosie typed these little cherished customs into book form, so that they could be better cherished, preserved and shared in her home as well as with other families. From then on, not an advent went by without these traditions being the center of her Advent home. "We shape our dwelling, and afterward our dwellings shape us!" Rosie died on the Feast of the Holy Family, 2010.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The best fiction simply tells the truth. But the truth is never simple. When novelist Kendra Brennan moves into her grandfather's old cabin on Hidden Lake, she has a problem and a plan. The problem? An inflammatory letter from A Very Disappointed Reader. The plan? To confront Tyler, her childhood best friend's brother--and the man who inspired the antagonist in her first book. If she can prove that she told the truth about what happened during those long-ago summers, perhaps she can put the letter's claims to rest and meet the swiftly approaching deadline for her next book. But what she discovers as she delves into the murky past is not what she expected. While facing Tyler isn't easy, facing the consequences of her failed friendship with his sister, Cami, may be the hardest thing she's ever had to do. Plumb the depths of the human heart with this emotional exploration of how a friendship dies, how we can face the unforgivable, and how even those who have been hurt can learn to love with abandon. Praise for the novels of Erin Bartels "Bartels proves herself a master wordsmith and storyteller."--Library Journal starred review of All That We Carried "A story of love found in the written word and love found because of the written word."--Booklist on The Words between Us "A deeply moving story of heartbreak, long-held secrets, and the bonds of family."--Publishers Weekly starred review of We Hope for Better Things

Book excerpt: From choosing environmentally friendly diapers to identifying the hidden toxins in children’s food, cribs, car seats, and toys, Green Mama discusses topics that are vitally important to new parents. What are the most pressing problems facing new parents today? As the world has become increasingly more complicated, so has parenting. We are concerned about pervasive toxins in the environment and anxious to raise our children in ways that will protect them as well as safeguard our already fragile world. Manda Aufochs Gillespie, the Green Mama, shares what today’s science and Grandma’s traditional wisdom tell us about prenatal care for mothers-to-be, breastfeeding, detoxifying the nursery, diapering, caring for baby’s skin, feeding a family, and healthy play — redefining the basics of parenting for today’s world. With an upbeat tone, stories of parents who have been there, real-world advice for when money matters more, and practical steps geared toward immediate success, The Green Mama engages and guides even the busiest, most sleep-deprived parent. The Green Mama helps parents become what they were always meant to be: experts on the care of their own children.

Book excerpt: This weekly journal is meant for busy folks who are trying to raise spiritually healthy, well-balanced children, and stay spiritually healthy and well balanced themselves. It is for parents who don't have time for a daily journal, but would like to keep a personal diary as well as a family record of the year. —from the Introduction Bringing Home the Gospel: A Weekly Journal for Catholic Parents is designed for busy parents who want to share the faith with their family and reflect on their day-to-day spiritual journey. Each week, you will find a reflection based on a Sunday Gospel. The readings are primarily from the Gospel of Luke with a few from John—Cycle C in the Church's liturgical calendar. These reflections will help you bring the Word of God home and apply it to your life and help you grow in your relationship with God as individual and as parent. "Family Response" questions or suggestions give you an opportunity to talk with your children about God and the things that are important to your family. There's plenty of room for you to journal and record on how the Gospel reading touches you in a particular way or relates to something significant happening in your life. Dunlap includes an easy-to-understand overview of the Church's liturgical year and a 10-year liturgical calendar. Bringing Home the Gospel is a perfect gift for engaged couples, newly married couples, parents and grandparents—those who want to deepen their understanding of Scripture and live a Gospel life.

Book excerpt: Would you believe me if I said God still uses signs today? That there was something (well, some things really) still pointing people to Christ at Christmas thousands of years after Jesus' birth? What if I told you the sign we're all looking for is... us?Yes, you and me. God made us the sign that points all people to a Savior. When Jesus ascended into heaven, He gave us this crazy gift of the Holy Spirit and an audacious commission to tell all the world about Him. What a radical thing. We are now the stars showing His way. We are the ones shouting about His birth. God is holding us up in our communities, work places, homes, and churches saying, "Ok everyone, listen up. This is good news of great joy for all people. Today, in our town, this person right here has come alive in Christ. The way they live their life will be a sign to you. A sign of my love, goodness, and glory. I have come and I am still here. Can't you see me in them?"Putting God's love, grace, and mercy on full display is a big job. So, we're going to take the next month to get laser-focused on bringing the joy of Christmas from heaven into our home. We're going to live out the intent behind Advent, simplify this season, reflect, and party.I can't wait to start this journey with you, your Bible study group, and family. I'm ready in my flannel pj's with some hot cocoa. The cartoon version of the Grinch is playing in the background (aka my kids are adequately distracted). Now, let's zero in on how God wants to use you to shine His light in this season. Are you ready? December, here we come!
