Book Synopsis Enriching the Earth by : Vaclav Smil
Download or read book Enriching the Earth written by Vaclav Smil and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2004-02-27 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Smil is the world's authority on nitrogenous fertilizer. The industrial synthesis of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen has been of greater fundamental importance to the modern world than the invention of the airplane, nuclear energy, space flight, or television. The expansion of the world's population from 1.6 billion people in 1900 to today's six billion would not have been possible without the synthesis of ammonia. In Enriching the Earth, Vaclav Smil begins with a discussion of nitrogen's unique status in the biosphere, its role in crop production, and traditional means of supplying the nutrient. He then looks at various attempts to expand natural nitrogen flows through mineral and synthetic fertilizers. The core of the book is a detailed narrative of the discovery of ammonia synthesis by Fritz Haber—a discovery scientists had sought for over one hundred years—and its commercialization by Carl Bosch and the chemical company BASF. Smil also examines the emergence of the large-scale nitrogen fertilizer industry and analyzes the extent of global dependence on the Haber-Bosch process and its biospheric consequences. Finally, it looks at the role of nitrogen in civilization and, in a sad coda, describes the lives of Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch after the discovery of ammonia synthesis.
Book Synopsis Organic Synthesis Today and Tomorrow by : Barry M. Trost

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organic Synthesis: Today and Tomorrow covers the proceedings of the Third International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) Symposium on Organic Synthesis. The book covers topics that tackle relevant issues about organic chemistry. Comprised of 27 chapters, the book covers lectures that tackle topics pertaining organic chemistry. These topics include useful synthetic methods for general application; development of chemistry concepts for use in construction of molecular sub-assemblies; and interplay of synthetic methodology and the total synthesis of organic compounds. The book will be of great interest to scientists, such as biochemists who are concerned with the advances in organic chemistry.

Book Synopsis Elements of Molecular and Biomolecular Electrochemistry by : Jean-Michel Savéant
Download or read book Elements of Molecular and Biomolecular Electrochemistry written by Jean-Michel Savéant and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-02-10 with total page 505 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the George Fisher Baker Lecture given by Jean-Michel Savéant at Cornell University in Fall 2002. * The first book focusing on molecular electrochemistry * Relates to other fields, including photochemistry and biochemistry * Outlines clearly the connection between concepts, experimental illustrations, proofs and supporting methods * Appendixes to provide rigorous demonstrations to prevent an overload of algebra in the main text * Applications-oriented, focused on analyzing the results obtained rather than the methodology
Download or read book Path to Health written by Susan Goe and published by . This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a science and scripture backed, "how to" book on health. It presents scientific proof of the validity of biblical instruction for achieving genuine health; the gold standard for healthy and happy living sitting right there on your coffee tables all along. The inability of so many Americans to mount an adequate immune response against the novel corona virus, in this current pandemic, spotlights our already well documented poor state of health. "Path to Health" presents fifty-two effective health promoting strategies. As a Disciple of Jesus, a seasoned health care provider, and a former health care administrator, I am well positioned to present these proven strategies to you. If you are disappointed in your current health program and know in your heart that there is a better way, this book is for you. This would also make a great gift to give a younger person who is in pursuit of the path to true health and happiness.- Presents Life Strategies for creating your best health- Verified by both science and scripture- Gives humorous and revealing personal stories- Recommends options for application to your own life After fifty years as a health care provider, the author, Susan Goe, became disillusioned with the medical model, observing it to be effective for disease treatment but lacking in health promotion. She was beginning to realize that, there was a better way and that better way needed to consider the whole person; their physical, their emotional and their spiritual selves. It was after years of studying scripture, while simultaneously practicing medicine, that a connection was made and the light went on. Science, at the time of writing this book, had advanced to the point where it's gold standards for health were synchronizing with those recorded in the bible for over two thousand years. Her writings suggest pragmatic life strategies towards true health that are supported by both science and scripture. Her hearts desire is for her readers to, not only achieve health and happiness, but to be drawn towards the original author, God.
Book Synopsis Organic Superconductivity by : Vladimir Z. Kresin
Download or read book Organic Superconductivity written by Vladimir Z. Kresin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains papers presented at the International Conference on Organic Superconductivity which was held May 20-24, 1990, at the Stanford Sierra Conference Center, South Lake Tahoe, California. In the twenty years since the First Conference on Organic Superconductivity was held (Hawaii, 1969), there has been remarkable progress in the field. At present, development is accelerating with contributions from many groups in many countries worldwide. The discovery of high Tc superconductivity by G. Bednorz and K. Muller in 1986 and subsequent developments in the ceramic superconductors have had an enormous impact on the field of superconductivity as a whole. This discovery occurred in an area entirely different from that of conventional superconduc tivity, underscoring the importance of the search for and study of novel materials of all kinds. We believe that the organics, with their wide range of structural, chemical, and physical properties, belong in this category of novel materials. This book reflects the efforts of researchers from various disciplines: physicists, chemists, and materials scientists. It addresses the normal and superconducting properties of organic materials, as well as the search for new compounds and new syntheses. We are pleased to note that one of these papers reports on the discovery of a new organic superconductor with a record high Tc in this class. One chapter is devoted to a comparison of organic superconductors and the cuprates, another, to the prospects of discovering other novel conducting or superconducting compounds.
