Book Synopsis Breccias and Coarse Fragmentites by : Peter Laznicka
Download or read book Breccias and Coarse Fragmentites written by Peter Laznicka and published by Amsterdam ; New York : Elsevier. This book was released on 1988 with total page 852 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first compilation dealing with all breccias to be made in 70 years, and the first such compilation ever to appear in book form. Bridging the gap between the established divisions of petrology and metallogeny, its approach is original and non-conventional. It emphasizes facts rather than hypotheses and has a large body of data based on international literature and worldwide coverage. There are four thematic indexes, 323 figures (incorporating 460 original photographs) and over 1000 references. In almost 850 pages, Professor Laznicka reviews all coarse fragmental rocks of all origins in all associations, regardless of the established petrographic division, and based on a new, rational organisation. Emphasizing breccias and focussing on related metallic ore accumulations, the book stresses empirical facts and has a considerable breadth so that it is particularly suitable for identification and interpretation of local breccia occurrences. Metallic mineralizations are treated in the framework of breccia (or fragmentite) forming/containing environment or association. This has a practical application in exploration for ores. The book is a must for practicing geologists working in the field or in the laboratory, providing them with a most comprehensive state-of-the-art volume against which to judge and compare most coarse fragmental aggregate and breccia occurrences in a local area. It will also be an indispensable reference for students and researchers in economic geology.

Book Synopsis Structure and Emplacement of High-level Magmatic Systems by : Kenneth Thomson
Download or read book Structure and Emplacement of High-level Magmatic Systems written by Kenneth Thomson and published by Geological Society of London. This book was released on 2008 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are continual rounds of annual conferences, special sessions and other symposia that provide ample opportunity for researchers to convene and discuss igneous processes. However, the origin of laccoliths and sills continue to inspire and confound geologists. In one sense, this is surprising. After all, don't we know all we need to know about these rocks by now? As testified by the diverse range of topics covered in this volume, the answer is clearly 'no'. This book contains contributions on physical geology, igneous petrology, volcanology, structural geology, crustal mechanics and geophysics that cover the entire gambit of geological processes associated with the shallow emplacement of magma. High-level intrusions in sedimentary basins can also act as hydrocarbon reservoirs and as sources for thermal maturation. In drawing together a diversity of perspectives on the emplacement of sills, laccoliths and dykes we hope to advance further our understanding of their behaviour.

Book Synopsis Bombarded Britain: A Search For British Impact Structures by : Richard Stratford
Download or read book Bombarded Britain: A Search For British Impact Structures written by Richard Stratford and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2004-07-26 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes a search for geological evidence of meteorite impact structures in Britain. The statistics of impact structures indicate that Britain should have Phanerozoic impact structures up to tens of kilometres in diameter. A constant theme is the importance of atmospheric break-up of small asteroids and comets. These fragmenting bodies produce anomalously shallow craters with low rims and central peaks; three British structures of this type are identified.Analysis of fireball statistics implies that damaging fireball explosions occur over the British Isles on a time-scale of decades. On a time-scale of millennia, however, more damage is done by Atlantic impact tsunami.
Book Synopsis Metasomatism and the Chemical Transformation of Rock by : Daniel Harlov
Download or read book Metasomatism and the Chemical Transformation of Rock written by Daniel Harlov and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-08-14 with total page 804 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fluid-aided mass transfer and subsequent mineral re-equilibration are the two defining features of metasomatism and must be present in order for metamorphism to occur. Coupled with igneous and tectonic processes, metasomatism has played a major role in the formation of the Earth’s continental and oceanic crust and lithospheric mantle as well as in their evolution and subsequent stabilization. Metasomatic processes can include ore mineralization, metasomatically induced alteration of oceanic lithosphere, mass transport in and alteration of subducted oceanic crust and overlying mantle wedge, which has subsequent implications regarding mass transport, fluid flow, and volatile storage in the lithospheric mantle overall, as well as both regional and localized crustal metamorphism. Metasomatic alteration of accessory minerals such as zircon or monazite can allow for the dating of metasomatic events as well as give additional information regarding the chemistry of the fluids responsible. Lastly present day movement of fluids in both the lithospheric mantle and deep to mid crust can be observed utilizing geophysical resources such as electrical resistivity and seismic data. Such observations help to further clarify the picture of actual metasomatic processes as inferred from basic petrographic, mineralogical, and geochemical data. The goal of this volume is to bring together a diverse group of geologists, each of whose specialities and long range experience regarding one or more aspects of metasomatism during geologic processes, should allow them to contribute to a series of review chapters, which outline the basis of our current understanding of how metasomatism influences and helps to control both the evolution and stability of the crust and lithospheric mantle.

This book was released on 2020-03-06 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume provides an overview and tour (with many interesting stops along the way) of Devonian and Ordovician intraplate magmatism and associated sedimentary rocks and tectonics in the regions of Kuznetsk Alatau, Minusinsk Basin and Khakassia in western Siberia. All chapters were written by experts, many of which have been studying these regions for decades. The first book to present and review this information in English for an international audience, it includes both overviews of the magmatic and associated sedimentary history, and selected key field sites, which are described in detail.

Book Synopsis Gold metallogeny and exploration by : R. P. Foster
Download or read book Gold metallogeny and exploration written by R. P. Foster and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Within the last decade, the high and continuing demand for gold has prompted a global gold rush on a scale never before seen, not even in the heady days of Ballarat, California and the Yukon. Gold is being sought on every continent and, with very few exceptions, in every country around the world. Such interest and fierce competition has demanded considerable innovation and improvement in exploration techniques paralleled by a rapid expansion of the geological database and consequent genetic modelling for the many different types of gold deposits now recognized. This proliferation of data has swamped the literature and left explorationist and academic alike unable to sift more than a small proportion of the accumulating information. This new book represents an attempt to address this major problem by providing succinct syntheses ofall major aspects ofgold metallogeny and exploration, ranging from the chemical distribution of gold in the Earth's crust, and the hydrothermal chemistry of gold, to Archaean and Phanerozoic lode deposits, epithermal environments, chemical sediments, and placer deposits, and culminates in chapters devoted to geochemical and geophysical exploration, and the economics of gold deposits. Each chapter is written by geoscientists who are acknowledged internationally in their respective fields, thus guaranteeing a broad yet up-to-date coverage. In addition, each chapter is accompanied by reference lists which provide readers with access to the most pertinent and useful publications.
