Book excerpt: Rose thought she was just another ordinary high school student with high aspirations to go to college. For as long as she can remember, it's always been her aunt and her going through the adventure of life together. All that changes on her 16th birthday when she learns that the birthmark on her arm is actually the symbol of her birthright to become the Luna to the Alpha of one of the most powerful werewolf packs on the East Coast. In a bid to protect her from their enemies, Rose was hidden away and her existence became top secret information within the Pack hierarchy. However, Xavier is now the new Alpha and instead of being eager to claim his Luna, he scoffs at the 16-year old stick of a girl, claiming she holds no attraction for him. He would much rather stay with his girlfriend, Alyssa, promising to eventually make her Luna of his pack. Meanwhile, Rose's world is turned upside down when the truth is revealed and she has to leave her old secluded life for her new pack life. She could care less about mating with Xavier until Xavier returns from college in Europe and both can't seem to resist the pull of their wolves anymore. Whereas before, Xavier had been reluctant to go through with the mating ceremony with Rose, now he doesn't find it such a horrible thought. Join Xavier and Rose on a journey of self-fulfillment in which both learn that love is never just a spoken word, but reflected in ones deeds and acts. As they grow together in a journey to protect their pack, will they find love in each other or will Xavier cast her away as he always intended and make Alyssa his mate?

The banging of the headboard against the wall intensified as Ann froze. No... it couldn't be! She took a deep breath and nudged the door a little more. Her chest felt like it would explode as she held her breath whilst the crack widened. When it revealed her sister lying underneath Ann's husband-to-be, her hands flew to her mouth to stifle the gasp of horror as her heart shattered instantly. As Brad roared his release inside her sister, Ada turned her head towards the door with a smirk. An icy chill descended over Ann as if a bucket of ice water had been thrown over her and she stood and stared, her eyes wide and mouth slightly open in disbelief. Ada lifted her hand and waved in Ada's direction with a smug smile plastered on her face as Brad collapsed on top of her, kissing her neck tenderly. Is there anything you can do if your mate had sex with your sister? *** This Novel is still Ongoing. Book one comprises the first 50 chapters. Book two will comprise chapters 51-100.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The untold story of South America’s most interesting beverage Brewed from the dried leaves and tender shoots of an evergreen tree native to South America, yerba mate gives its drinkers the jolt of liquid effervescence many of us get from coffee or tea. In Argentina, southern “gaúcho” Brazil, Paraguay, and Uruguay, mate is the stimulating brew of choice, famously quaffed by the Argentine national football team en route to its 2022 FIFA World Cup victory. In The Book of Yerba Mate, Christine Folch offers a wide-ranging exploration of the world’s third-most popular naturally stimulating beverage. Folch discusses who drinks mate, and why, and whether this earthier caffeinated drink with its promise of a different buzz and a more authentic, spiritual connection to place can find a market niche beyond South America. Folch traces yerba mate’s odysseys across the globe, from South America to the Middle East and North America. She discovers that mate inspired the world’s first written tango, powered early Jesuit and German nationalist utopias, ignited one of modern history’s most devastating wars, and fueled Catholic conspiracies. And, Folch reports, mate is currently starring in puppet shows put on by Syrian dissidents. By tracing yerba mate production and consumption as they change over time and place, from precolonial Indigenous beginnings to the present, Folch unravels the processes of commodification and their countervailing forces to show how accidents of botany intersect with political economic systems and personal taste. The stories behind the caffeinated infusions we prefer, she finds, are nothing less than the story of how the modern world is put together.

Book excerpt: Brad Kirk came from old money, very old money, as he was an immortal. He was gifted immortality and a great deal of magic by a bear group centuries ago. He was a recluse and didn’t like people much, but he was a very shrewd businessman and had more money than he could spend in several lifetimes. Becka Dillard had raised her nephew, Toby, since he was an infant. He was too young when his parents died to remember them. Now sixteen, Becka was the only mother he knew, and he loved her dearly. She was a trucker. They lived on the road. They never had much in the way of money, but she had plenty of love to share even though she didn’t care much for people in general. They were early for her next delivery and, thankfully, had time for a hot, sit-down meal…or so she thought anyway. Some idiot wouldn’t leave her alone, accusing her of being the wife of some man named Kirk, and he had a bone to pick with him. Some days, it didn’t pay to get out of bed….

Both held black belts in karate and were experts in weaponry and marksmanship. They soon became friends, started dating, and fell in love. Rachel, finding army life too restricting, left the army and joined the Australian Federal Police force. Brad, to be closer to Rachel, resigned from the army and joined the AFP. Two months after his AFP appointment, they were married. The next year, Rachel gave birth to a daughter, whom they named Mia. Due to medical reasons, Rachel was denied any future children, and their consolidated family of three was bonded on togetherness and love. When Mia was three years old, they hired a permanent babysitter, and Rachel went back to work as a specialist trainer with the AFP. Brad Morris, as a specialist agent of the AFP, was sent to overseas countries for several monthly training sessions to study new law enforcement techniques. Included in one his previous overseas assignments was being an undercover agent for the British police in Hong Kong. Following that assignment, he had further training at Scotland Yard in London. Because of his achievements, he was sent on a specialized training course to study at the American FBI headquarters in Washington DC. For the three months duration of the Washington training course, he was granted a special request that allowed him to be accompanied by his wife, Rachel, and daughter, Mia. Due to his previous experience with the Hong Kong underworld, the FBI signed him on as one of their undercover agents in Hong Kong, after approval from the head of AFP, to take part in a secret mission investigating the suspicious deaths of American tourists that occurred in British-controlled Hong Kong. The FBI considered that Brad, with his prior knowledge of the two most prominent crime lords operating in Hong Kong, namely Jimmy Lee and Sammy Lui, would be valuable. Both these gang lords were cunning, ruthless, and capable adversaries who would wantonly kill to control their own individual criminal kingdoms. His mission was to take place in March 1997, a few months prior to the British handing back the colony of Hong Kong to the Republic of China. Due to the limited amount of time remaining before the Chinese took over the control of the colony, the British administration and police force, prior to the hand over date, had purposely cut back their law enforcement activities. With the lack of total police involvement, this situation left the criminal element unlimited opportunities to commit major crimes. Terry Long, the head of Hong Kongs MI5 division, was virtually playing a lone hand in controlling the spiraling crime wave. To initiate their involvement, the FBI had set up undercover headquarters at an export import company in Hong Kong. Brad would join three other FBI agents, Nancy Ho, Bobby Reed, and Tony Pallino, at the export import company, operating under the leadership of a senior FBI agent named Bill Johns together with two Republic of China agents, Chen Zhang and Delun Huang, who both agreed, by whatever means it took, to ensure that all Hong Kong criminal elements were either behind bars or nonfunctional when the handover to the Republic of China was official. Each day, in their quest to bring the ruthless crime lords to justice, Brads family and his fellow agents lives were constantly under threat. This story takes you on the Morris familys journey from Hong Kong in 1997 up to the present time.

In the thick woods of nearby Chicamauga National Battlefield, his cousin, Glen, slides down into a limestone cave to hide the gold piece for Brad to find. In the dark, he bends to place the coin on the faint glow of foxfire from a piece of rotting wood. Before he can stand, he gets dizzy and faints. When Brad goes inside looking for his cousin, the same thing happens to him. When they wake up, they discover they are on a steamboat in 1854 and the gold coin is missing. Even worse, the captain sends them out in a rowboat with a huge storm coming. Half the crew is down with fever, so the boys are recruited to join the First Mate in a small boat out ahead of the sternwheeler. They must probe for a spot deep enough for the steamboat to safely cross a shallow sand bar. The captain promises to reward each of them with a gold dollar. But that's not what they really want. When the storm rolls in, the cousins fear they might not get out alive, especially when they all realize the steamboat is headed straight for their rowboat. One thing is for sure, they never expected to find this when they went looking for treasure.

Book excerpt: The terrifyingly true tale of a daring British special forces rescue mission and all-out assault on a savage Sierra Leone guerrilla gang: “What a story!” (Frederick Forsyth, #1 New York Times–bestselling author of The Day of the Jackal). Officially, the SAS mission was called Operation Barras. The men on the ground called it Operation Certain Death. In 2000, the British Special Air Service (SAS) attempted its riskiest rescue mission in more than half a century. A year before, an eleven-man patrol of Royal Irish Rangers who were training government troops in Sierra Leone was captured and held prisoner by the infamously ruthless rebel forces known as the West Side Boys. Their fortified base was hidden deep in the West African jungle, its barricades adorned with severed heads on spikes. Some four hundred heavily armed renegades were not only bloodthirsty—they were drink-and-drugs crazed. The guerrillas favored pink shades, shower caps, and fluorescent wigs, draping themselves in voodoo charms they believed made them bulletproof—a delusion reenforced by the steady consumption of ganja, heroin, crack, and sweet palm wine. This was the vicious and cutthroat enemy British special forces would confront in order to rescue their own. Featuring extensive interviews with survivors, this gritty, blow-by-blow account of the bloody battle that brought an end to ten years of Africa’s most brutal civil war is “as good as any thriller I have ever read. This really is the low down” (Frederick Forsyth).

Book excerpt: Imagine being thrust into a world where everything you knew as a child was now unfamiliar. The working crew on a Great Lakes iron core freighter is now your daily connection to earning enough money to go the college. As the events progress, the vessel, which is your home and job, becomes unstable and eventually not seaworthy. The crew is dysfunctional, and the dynamics of interactions of the captain’s family throw all caution to the wind. The history and connections to the past become very important to survival. The ship sinks in the blue-black water of Lake Superior, and the aftermath is a study in character and justice. Leadership principles are embedded in the story as a guide to behavior at its best.
