Book excerpt: His Love May Be The Death Of Her When Constance Rockwood Athelson, Viscountess Westbury, hides her face to attend the Black Widows Ball, she never expected to find passion in a masked stranger’s arms. The torrent of desire isn’t enough to drown out her “gift” for seeing visions and talking to the dead. Terrified of being found out, she secures a position cataloguing archaeological artifacts for the Earl of Lyndham—where she encounters a ghost begging her to break a curse plaguing his family. Before his mysterious lover disappeared, Lucien Blakemore was tempted to throw caution aside. Yet he knows one taste of love will unleash the curse that drove his father and brother to murder their wives. When he returns home empty-handed and empty-hearted, he’s shocked to discover his new assistant is the goddess who fled into the night. But could her presence be part of a murderous plot to unearth the location of a secret Egyptian tomb? The answer—or his doom—lies behind the desire shining in his seductress’s eyes. This book has been previously published by Samhain Publishing. WARNING: This spicy, steamy read contains a hero whose torment equals that of Jane Eyre’s Mr. Rochester and a heroine who has the courage to save his soul, even if his love could be the death of her.
Book Synopsis The Complete Poems of Samuel Johnson by : Robert D. Brown
Download or read book The Complete Poems of Samuel Johnson written by Robert D. Brown and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2024-06-21 with total page 1023 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This definitive edition, the first since 1974, presents all the poetry of Samuel Johnson (1709–1784), including his play, Irene, with detailed, wide-ranging commentary. It has been expertly edited with attention to the extant manuscripts and all relevant printings. The volume includes the entirety of Johnson’s verse in all its generic diversity: including satire, ode, elegy, verse drama, and verse prayer. The poems are presented in their original spelling and punctuation with extensive commentary on their literary background—biblical, classical, and modern—as well as careful explanation of unusual words, allusions to historical figures, and references to contemporary events that appear in the poems. Proceeding chronologically, this edition also situates Johnson’s verse in the context of his life from his early days in Lichfield to his career as an author in London. Unlike all earlier editions, the present offering provides full translations of all the Latin and Greek poems on which Johnson based so much of his English verse. Correspondingly, it provides the English poems which some of his Latin verse translates. Neither in the presentation of the verse nor in the commentary does this edition assume a command of foreign languages: it aims to be useful for all students of Samuel Johnson’s poetry.

In the second volume, Milne details the anatomy, physiology, energetics, and techniques that are the essential core of visionary craniosacral work. His particular genius lies in his ability to weave a delicate tapestry of narrative, poetry, and scientific fact into a fascinating and insightful exposition of the visionary healing arts.

Book Synopsis Shakespeare and the Versification of English Drama, 1561-1642 by : Marina Tarlinskaja
Download or read book Shakespeare and the Versification of English Drama, 1561-1642 written by Marina Tarlinskaja and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-12-05 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surveying the development and varieties of blank verse in the English playhouses, this book is a natural history of iambic pentameter in English. The main aim of the book is to analyze the evolution of Renaissance dramatic poetry. Shakespeare is the central figure of the research, but his predecessors, contemporaries and followers are also important: Shakespeare, the author argues, can be fully understood and appreciated only against the background of the whole period. Tarlinskaja surveys English plays by Elizabethan, Jacobean and Caroline playwrights, from Norton and Sackville’s Gorboduc to Sirley’s The Cardinal. Her analysis takes in such topics as what poets treated as a syllable in the 16th-17th century metrical verse, the particulars of stressing in iambic pentameter texts, word boundary and syntactic segmentation of verse lines, their morphological and syntactic composition, syllabic, accentual and syntactic features of line endings, and the way Elizabethan poets learned to use verse form to enhance meaning. She uses statistics to explore the attribution of questionable Elizabethan and Jacobean plays, and to examine several still-enigmatic texts and collaborations. Among these are the poem A Lover's Complaint, the anonymous tragedy Arden of Faversham, the challenging Sir Thomas More, the later Jacobean comedy The Spanish Gypsy, as well as a number of Shakespeare’s co-authored plays. Her analysis of versification offers new ways to think about the dating of plays, attribution of anonymous texts, and how collaborators divided their task in co-authored dramas.

Book excerpt: Scandal forces a plump country mouse and a devilish cat to marry. She’s not the meek mouse he expected Amalie Rockwood possesses the an dara sealladh, which has been passed down to her from her Scottish ancestors. The first time she met Valeran, her psychic ability revealed how dangerous the earl was to her heart. To avoid scandal and a loveless marriage, Amalie hides her plus-size curves in the shadows like a plump country mouse hiding from a cat. Her fear of Valeran becomes loathing when she overhears someone challenge him to seduce her. But when she’s caught by the cat in a compromising position, Valeran’s kisses set her body on fire. Now, Amalie’s married to a man who will break her heart, but whose touch she can’t live without. He’s far more dangerous than she realized. A master of martial arts, Valeran Rutherford, Earl of Sommerville, turned his blindness into an advantage hunting Prussian spies for the Crown’s Secret Intelligence Service. When Amalie is found in his rooms, Valeran is livid at how easily he allowed the witch’s voluptuous curves and bewitching, siren’s voice to ensnare him as a husband. Marriage is inevitable, but Valeran finds his Scottish spitfire of a bride impossible to resist. Beneath his fingers, Amalie’s lush body is as beautiful as her lilting cries of ecstasy. Now with each passionate kiss, Valeran is forced to realize he’s facing two enemies—a Prussian spy and his wife’s ability to capture his heart. Their fiery passion is certain to make lovers of enemies.
