Book excerpt: Bose-Einstein correlations between K[sup +]'s and between [pi][sup +]'s produced in collisions of 14.6 A[center-dot]GeV/c [sup 28]Si ions and [sup 197]Au nuclei have been measured using the E859 spectrometer. Parameters obtained from fits to correlation functions in relative momentum describe a K[sup +] source that is slightly smaller than the [pi][sup +] source and comparable in size to the [sup 28]Si projectile. Correlation functions were also formed for [pi]K[sup +] and pK[sup +] pairs extracted from the data set. Bose-Einstein correlations are expected to be absent here. The observed correlations can be understood as being the result primarily of the two-particle Coulomb interaction. For the pK[sup +] pairs, an adequate description is obtained only when taking into account the finite sizes of the p K[sup +] sources. The space-time coordinate distributions of pions and kaons produced by the event generator ARC for the 14.6 A[center-dot]GeV/c [sup 28]Si on [sup 197]Au collision yield source sizes that are larger than those observed in the experiment. Much closer agreement is seen when viewing the distributions through a simulated version of the detector.

Here pion and (preliminary) kaon data from CERN experiment NA44 are compared to the calculations. The dynamics of 200 GeV/nucleon 32S + Pb collisions are calculated, without correlations due to interference patterns of a many-body wavefunction for identical particles, using the Relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics model (RQMD). The model is used to generate the phase-space coordinates of the emitted hadrons at the time they suffer their last strong interaction (freeze-out). Using the freeze-out position and momentum of pairs of randomly selected identical particles, a two-particle symmetrized wave-function is calculated and used to add two-body correlations. Details of the technique have been described previously. The method is similar to that used in the Spacer program.

Book excerpt: We report the measurement of the one-dimensional charged kaon correlation functions using 600 GeV/c [Sigma]-, [pi]- and 540 GeV/C[rho] beams from the SELEX (E781) experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron. K±K± correlation functions are studied for three transverse pair momentum, kT, ranges and parameterized by a Gaussian form. The emission source radii, R, and the correlation strength, [lambda], are extracted. Furthermore, the analysis shows a decrease of the source radii with increasing kaon transverse pair momentum for all beam types.
