Download or read book Reproductive Laws for the 1990s written by Sherrill Cohen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 458 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Project on Reproductive Laws for the 1990s began in 1985 with the realization that reports of scientific developments and new technologies were stimulating debates and discussions among bioethicists and policymakers, and that women had little part in those discussions either as participants or as a group with interests to be considered. With the help of a planning grant from the Rutgers University Institute for Research on Women, the Women's Rights Litigation Clinic at Rutgers University Law School-Newark held a planning meeting that June attended by approximately 20 theorists and activists in the area of reproductive rights. Project purposes, methods, and general shape took form at the meeting. Two goals have characterized the Project's work since then: first, to generate discussion, debate, and, where possible, consensus among those committed to reproductive autonomy and gender equality as to how best to respond to the questions raised by re ported advances in reproductive and neonatal technology and new modes of reproduction; and second, to ensure that those shaping reproductive law and policy appreciate the ramifications of these developments for gender equality. In meeting this twofold agenda, the Project focused on six areas: time limits on abortion; prenatal screening; fetus as patient; reproductive hazards in the workplace; interference with reproductive choice; and alternative modes of reproduction. The Project identified individuals to take respon sibility for drafting model legislation and position papers in the six areas (for the drafters, see the Appendix).

Book Synopsis Behavioral Approaches for Children and Adolescents by : Philip C. Kendall
Download or read book Behavioral Approaches for Children and Adolescents written by Philip C. Kendall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Challenges for the next decade as the subtitle ofa book is a statement ofambition. In the present time we have to be ambitious as scientists, clinicians, and teachers. Without ambition we would not be able to confront the problems of young people in an effective way. In this decade, we can see an abundance of problems of young people: football hooliganism, school drop out, vandalism, delinquency, lack ofsocial skills, aggression, and depression. The problem seems to grow. Governments, parents, and concerned citizens call for action now. Unfortunately, the action that is taken is often impulsive and not based on scientifically proven methods: longerjail sentences for young first offenders, putting young offenders in military look-alike training camps, etc. For some reason, the usage of effective interventions is limited. In this, book the reader will find an extensive overview of what we know to be effective as a "cure" or prevention for the above-mentioned problems. The first four chapters will give the reader a clear insight ofwhat the "state ofthe art" is today. erview of cognitive behavioural therapies with children and ado An integrative ov lescents isgiven by Kendall, Panichelli-Mindel, and Gerow.Russo and Navalta providesome new dimensions ofbehavior analysis and therapy. What behavioral approaches can offer to education is described by Slavenburg and van Bilsen in two chapters. In Part II authors from Australia, the United States, and the Netherlands describe programs for specific clinical populations: attention deficit disorder, anti-social youth, learning problems, social skills problems, depression, and aggression.

Book Synopsis In Vitro Fertilisation in the 1990s by : Elisabeth Hildt
Download or read book In Vitro Fertilisation in the 1990s written by Elisabeth Hildt and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-21 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published in 1998, this book is a collected volume of papers from the first conference of the European Network for Biomedical ethics. The main subject of this conference is the ethical assessment of IVF in view of its concrete application as an infertility treatment and the consideration of possible alternatives for use. Twenty years after the introduction and the establishment of this therapy a more concrete evaluation of its medical indications, social conditions and consequences, the psychological consequences for the women involved and the parent-child relationship becomes possible. The legal and ethical evaluation of the reproduction technology as regards for example the legal and moral status of supernumery embyos in cryo-conservation has also to be considered in a European perspective. The ethical evaluation concentrates today on the new evolution that IVF technology takes in relation to the extension of diagnostics possibilities due to genetic research. Little work has been done on the connection between IVF and genetic diagnostics and therapy, so the medical and ethical evaluation of the connecting lines are also included in the book.

Book Synopsis Executive Functions and the Frontal Lobes by : Vicki Anderson
Download or read book Executive Functions and the Frontal Lobes written by Vicki Anderson and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2010-10-18 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume has as its primary aim the examination of issues concerning executive function and frontal lobe development. While many texts have addressed these issues, this is the first to do so within a specifically developmental framework. This area of cognitive function has received increasing attention over the past decade, and it is now established that the frontal lobes, and associated executive functions, are critical for efficient functioning in daily life. It is also clear, and of particular relevance to this text, that these functions develop gradually through childhood, and then deteriorate during old age. These developmental trajectories, and the impact of any interruption to them, are the focus of this volume.
