Book excerpt: Borley Rectory was long regarded as 'the most haunted house in England', and it has been the subject of several full-length books and numerous magazines and newspaper articles, radio programmes and much speculation. After more than half-a-century's study and personal investigation of the famous Borley Rectory haunting, Peter Underwood has opened his files to present a wealth of hitherto unpublished material. Among the contents are the highly regarded lecture, A Pictorial History of the Borley Haunting; the full script of the famous 1947 BBC broadcast The Haunted Rectory; a letter sent to Harry Price recounting a personal 'Versailles vision' at Borley; the expose of The Faker of Borley; Recollections of Borley Witnesses; Harry Price at Borley - the results of a four-year in-depth exploration by an S.P.R. investigator; and a Visit to Harry Price's Home. Illustrated throughout with many hitherto unpublished photographs and drawings, this volume is indeed 'a welcome and valuable contribution to the Borley story'. Book Synopsis The Borley Rectory Companion by : Paul Adams
Download or read book The Borley Rectory Companion written by Paul Adams and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2016-09-23 with total page 455 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Borley Rectory in Essex, built in 1862, should have been an ordinary Victorian clergyman's house. However, just a year after its construction, unexplained footsteps were heard within the house, and from 1900 until it burned down in 1939 numerous paranormal phenomena, including phantom coaches and shattering windows, were observed. In 1929 the house was investigated by the Daily Mail and paranormal researcher Harry Price, and it was he who called it 'the most haunted house in England.' Price also took out a lease of the rectory from 1937 to 1938, recruiting forty-eight 'official observers' to monitor occurences. After his death in 1948, the water was muddied by claims that Price's findings were not genuine paranormal activity, and ever since there has been a debate over what really went on at Borley Rectory. Paul Adams, Eddie Brazil and Peter Underwood here present a comprehensive guide to the history of the house and the ghostly (or not) goings-on there.

Book Synopsis The Complete Book of Ghosts by : Paul Roland
Download or read book The Complete Book of Ghosts written by Paul Roland and published by Arcturus Publishing. This book was released on 2007-03-26 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'No one can deny Paul Roland is a complete master of his subject.' Colin Wilson, author of The Outsider Ghosts and spirits inhabit the world around us. We can hear and see them if we are only sensitive - or psychic - enough to be aware of them. Re-examining a fascinating assortment of recorded sightings from as far back as Roman times, the author presents a serious look at ghosts, not as chain-rattling spooks, but as actual entities with which we share a greater reality. Nor does he accept that ghosts are merely the spirits of departed people, or energies left behind. Uniquely, Paul Roland provides self-tested evidence on the idea of spirits as the manifestation of people still living, proving that out-of-body experiences are not as rare - or as impossible - as some people might think. The result is a profoundly fascinating, thought-provoking book that will challenge your beliefs as never before.

Book Synopsis The Most Haunted House in England by : Harry Price
Download or read book The Most Haunted House in England written by Harry Price and published by . This book was released on 1941 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Borley Rectory was the house that gained infamy as "the most haunted house in England" after its ten-year-long paranormal investigation by the psychic researcher; Harry Price. Price dedicated his life to uncovering the truth behind the paranormal, leading him to become one of the most well-known psychical researchers of all time. It was his investigation into Borley Rectory which by far became the most famous case in Price's long career, eventually leading to the Victorian house being crowned the 'most haunted in England'. This book ... document[s] his ten-year investigation into exploring the nature of paranormal phenomena surrounding Borley Rectory. The rectory was attributed to classic poltergeist activity, wall-writing, mysterious fires and supernatural manifestations. Most notable of these is that of the figure of a nun, known for walking across the garden. Also appearing was a spectral carriage and team of horses driven by a headless coachman. It could be said that the story of Borley Rectory is as much a story of a haunted house and ghosts as it is about the living. Borley's saga includes sensationalist tabloid headlines, a scandalous affair and a captivating investigator whose discoveries are still questioned to this day"--Amazon.com.
