Download or read book Blessing in the Bible and the Life of the Church written by Claus Westermann and published by Augsburg Fortress Publishing. This book was released on 1978 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament idea of "salvation" shows an important relationship between God's activity of blessing and the deliverance of his people. This relationship is the stimulus for Claus Westermann's search for a theological clarification of blessing. In a study that analyzes both Old and New Testament concepts, Westermann finds that, more than simply the act of bestowing, blessing encompasses the results that come of it. Blessing is not a magical transferal of power but a manifestation of divine activity.

Book Synopsis How God Forms Abraham to Be a Blessing by : Qiang Fu
Download or read book How God Forms Abraham to Be a Blessing written by Qiang Fu and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2023-02-22 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to understand God’s interactions with Abraham in relation to God’s command that Abraham “be a blessing” (Gen 12:2d), which is directly tied to God’s goal that “in you all the families of the earth will be blessed” (Gen 12:3b). The book proposes a formative narrative approach to examine interactions between character and plot, the movement of plot, and the connection between sequential plots. An analysis of thirteen Abrahamic narratives (Gen 12–22) suggests a classification based on four different types of interactions between God and Abraham, which indicate how cooperation and conflict between God and Abraham advance the narrative’s plot. The book then proposes a narrative discourse analysis to examine how Abraham evolved through different stages of the narrative by moving from deviation to cooperation. Detailed analysis of this transformation process reveals three turning points in Abraham’s life. The formative narrative approach and narrative discourse analysis proposed in this book can contribute to the analysis of two important aspects of Old Testament narratives: the formation of plot and the cause-and-effect structure in narrative discourse.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Words have power in matters of life and death. The spoken blessing is a life-giving source of hope from one who has it, to one who doesn’t. the most qualified people to bless and encourage are those who themselves have been encouraged by God. The Lord’s mercies are new every morning, and each day we have a choice. We can use our words to criticize what is or use them to build what might be! In blessing, we have the choice to focus on the positive, not on the negative. When we give a blessing to someone they receive value, acceptance, hope and the treasure of the gift of blessing which can turn into a life-changing moment. The spoken blessing allows you to see the goodness in everyone, which makes weaknesses seem small and making other’s joy your own, then wanting to help lessen the load and soften the sorrows of others. This book is about learning to be aware that the spoken blessing has an immediate effect but also a long-lasting support in that person’s future and it only costs a little of your time and you benefit as well. Blessing someone doesn’t have to be a certain prescribed set of words, although it is a good starting place. Being a blessing comes in our relationships with others, in our actions of kindness, our actions of compassion, our actions of faithfulness, and our actions of joy, with those around us. Being a blessing is designed to be a vehicle for the Spirit of God to change every environment you walk into. You never can tell what type of influence you may make on another’s life by your actions or lack of action. Consider this fact in your journey thru life. The whisper of the Father’s heart is to embrace people with the Father’s love. When you speak blessings on those who need a blessing, the Father’s love flows from His heart through you to them. The spoken blessing has a way of bringing joy and creates belonging in a community where one is accepted, noticed and valued. Our words have great influence in the lives of those around us, and spoken blessings can bring hope, encouragement, and direction to our families, friends, and others. Many people are experiencing deepening relationships and spiritual encouragement as they discover the power of spoken blessings. It is one thing to be convinced that blessing is powerful, and quite another to know how to put it into practice. In this readable and practical book, Ms. Villalpando observes the heart of the Father through blessing in self-giving, genuine love, and shows how you can easily offer healing and life to those around you; including to your family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. Ms. Villalpando’s hope is that this book would help you begin to be a blessing to others in practical ways and to stir your creative juices to find ways of your own to bless others.

Book Synopsis Abrahamic Blessing by : Sarita D. Gallagher
Download or read book Abrahamic Blessing written by Sarita D. Gallagher and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Is the Abrahamic blessing of Genesis 12:1-3 still active in the world today? Does God still extend his blessing to the nations through his people? The author found the answer to these questions in one of the most isolated regions of the world, Papua New Guinea. In this book Sarita D. Gallagher compares the missional nature of the Abrahamic blessing motif in Scripture to a national revival that took place in Papua New Guinea. By identifying the shared missional patterns, she illustrates the continued fulfillment of the Abrahamic blessing through the Old and New Testaments and the contemporary Papua New Guinean Church. The significance of this research is multifaceted: the text contributes new insights to the global Church's understanding of the missio Dei, records an unexplored chapter of Melanesian indigenous mission history, and impacts the foundational motivations and methodology of contemporary mission praxis.

Book excerpt: In recent decades Christian spirituality, spiritual formation and spiritual theology have become important concepts in the global evangelical community. Consequently, an accessible and reliable academic resource is needed on these topics—one that will offer a discerning orientation to the wealth of ecumenical resources available while still highlighting the distinct heritage and affirming the core grace-centered values of classic evangelical spirituality. The Dictionary of Christian Spirituality reflects an overarching interpretive framework for evangelical spiritual formation: a holistic and grace-filled spirituality that encompasses relational (connecting), transformational (becoming), and vocational (doing) dynamics. At the same time, contributors respectfully acknowledge the differences between Reformed, Holiness, and Pentecostal paradigms of the spiritual life. And, by bringing together writers from around the world who share a common orthodoxy, this reference work is truly global and international in both its topical scope and contributors. Entries give appropriate attention to concepts, concerns, and formative figures in the evangelical tradition of spirituality that other reference work neglect. They offer a discerning orientation to the wealth of ecumenical resources available, exploring the similarities and differences between Christianity and alternate spiritualities without lapsing into relativism. The Dictionary of Christian Spirituality is a resource that covers a wide range of topics relating to Christian spirituality and is biblically engaged, accessible, and relevant for all contemporary Christians.
