Book excerpt: He saw right into her when no one else did. And that was the whole damn problem. A FULL-LENGTH STANDALONE, a great entry into the world of Rachael Herron’s sexy and hilarious books. Previously published as Wishes & Stitches. From international bestseller Rachael Herron, comes a book too delightful to put down: It has always been Naomi Fontaine’s dream to practice small-town medicine, an ambition that brought her to Cypress Hollow. But no matter how hard she tries, Naomi can’t seem to fit in here. Then rugged Rig Keller, the one-night-stand she never thought she’d see again, moves in to take over half of Naomi’s medical practice, and instantly charms everyone in town. Rig saw what a broken relationship did to his brother, and has no interest whatsoever in getting serious. But the temptation to play doctor with his new partner is just too strong to resist. Any chance they might have of being truly knit together by love, however, depends entirely on what secrets they are willing to reveal, on Rig’s willingness to risk his heart, and Naomi’s desire to open hers completely. “Herron earns a well-deserved place in the ever-expanding knit-chicklit genre. Patrons who have clamored for the novels of Debbie Macomber, Kate Jacobs, or Gil McNeil will definitely find her a good read.” —Library Journal “Relationships are at the heart of women’s fiction, and Herron could teach a master class on creating them.” —Chicklit Central “Rachael Herron charms with an emotional, heart-warming story of family, friendship and love in a town you’ll never want to leave.” —USA Today bestselling author Barbara Freethy Herron’s characters are grounded and relatable, but her twists and turns leave you satisfied as a reader. For a good time, pack this beach read on your vacation! You’ll love this book. “Rachael Herron seamlessly blends romance, friendship, and laughter.” —Barbara Bretton, USA Today Bestselling Author Scroll up and Click Buy!

Engrossing, irreverent, and full of life, I Didn’t Make Admiral is a collection of stories told with love, self-awareness, honesty, and a great sense of humour. George comes of age on the West Coast of Canada in the 1940s, finds his English rose while serving with the British Navy, introduces their children to the freedom of the ocean and islands, and does another 27,000 nautical miles under sail in his later years. With light, lively prose, this memoir gives you a taste of the navy and family life during the twentieth century set against the backdrop of privilege, poverty, and social position. Whether he was sailing over the waves in a ship or beneath them in a submarine, George’s lifelong affair with the sea and deep appreciation of family, friends and country come through on every page. George never did make Admiral—but along the journey he learned that was never really the point.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This family memoir is my back story. A Locked Safe with 5 ‘Nazi’ passports was found after my mother died in 1996. My father had died 16 years earlier. Although we knew he was a German Jewish professional engineer fleeing Nazism in 1936, we did not know the details of how his family fled. The help of my mother’s family, the Leas, was essential. They had fled from pogroms in Ukraine/Russia in the late nineteenth century. Some were also caught up with Japanese internment camps in China, illustrating the diasporic nature of my family. My father, his elder brother and father were also interned by the British in 1940-1941. I look forward to not only my generation as the so-called second generation from the Holocaust, but also the third generation, specifically my daughter Charlotte Reiner Hershman. Although we tell a unique story of one family, that story of migration, seeking asylum or refuge and being exiled is a very frequent tale nowadays. In excavating my parents’ backgrounds and their influences on me and Charlotte, we show the long term psychological and social effects on our lives and possibly on future generations.

Book excerpt: A book etched in nostalgia, with poems that go back to 1964, when the decision was made to begin saving the poems in a 7’’x 9” notebook, instead of placing them in a fi le, which, at length, became diffi cult to fi nd; essentially lost Time brought forth three such notebooks, two fi lled; the third well-over half used. A book attuned, in good part, to family history; the growth and flowering of two generations; a continuing story that surpasses the bounds of poetic surveillance.

But when a dutiful Amish woman’s life is turned upside down, she may have to risk her heart to get everything she’s always wanted in this charming Pleasant Valley novel. Since her mother’s death, Naomi Esch has been devoted to caring for her father and siblings, sacrificing any hope of finding love or having a home of her own. Still, working at the local bakery and expanding her beekeeping business give Naomi a satisfying sense of purpose. Then, in the weeks before Christmas, her father announces his plans to remarry. He and his new wife need the house for themselves, leaving Naomi in need of a plan. But opportunities soon come her way. A friend finds Naomi a place to stay, and widower Nathan King offers his sprawling farmland to Naomi to continue her business—on the condition that she helps take care of his children. The setup is so perfect that the community assumes a wedding will inevitably follow. But Naomi has vowed never to marry without love. And to Nathan she’s merely convenient help. Now, for those in Pleasant Valley, uniting these two stubborn souls may take a Christmas miracle.

Book excerpt: Heroes Without Halos is an ongoing record of sessions channeled since 2002 by a gifted reflexologist. Elijah, the lead speaker, was a teacher/commander in both the Marines and NYPD. He, fellow officers, and others tell of 9/11/2001 events, how they crossed and how things really work on the Other Side. They come now to enlighten, awaken, and prepare souls on Earth for the accelerated natural disasters now occurring and the cataclysmic events to precede the Thousand Years of Peace. Those who choose to cross over must prepare for the soul cleansing process and those who choose to remain must prepare for physical and spiritual survival. Angelo, a retired FDNY chief, tells in graphic detail of his cleansing and how there is no hell except that of your own making in the treatment of others while on Earth. You, during soul cleansing, feel all the pain you inflicted on others and the duration of this depends upon many factors. Angelo seeks forgiveness from those he hurt. He hopes to help his family and others clear their misdeeds before they cross so they will not feel what he felt.

Book excerpt: An exquisitely moving story about grief, love and family, from the global phenomenon Sally Rooney. Aside from the fact that they are brothers, Peter and Ivan Koubek seem to have little in common. Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties – successful, competent and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women – his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret, an older woman emerging from her own turbulent past, and their lives become rapidly and intensely intertwined. For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude – a period of desire, despair and possibility – a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking.

Only by emerging from the depths of his soul can he become the father Naomi needed. Together, they’ll embark on a harrowing journey through the unseen—facing impossible challenges and confronting her false identity—all in the hope of freeing her spirit. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Renowned songwriter, singer, and wife of Waylon Jennings writes an intimate, enormously entertaining memoir of American music, of life with Waylon and the Outlaws, and of faith lost and found. The daughter of a Pentecostal evangelist and a race-car driver, Jessi Colter played piano and sang in church before leaving Arizona to tour with rock-n-roll pioneer Duane Eddy, whom she married. Colter became a successful recording artist, appearing on American Bandstand and befriending stars such as the Everly Brothers and Chet Atkins, while her songs were recorded by Nancy Sinatra, Dottie West, and others. Her marriage to Eddy didn’t last, however, and in 1969 she married the electrifying Waylon Jennings. Together, they made their home in Nashville which, in the 1970s, was ground zero for roots music, drawing Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Shel Silverstein, and others to the Nashville Sound. And Jessi was at the center of it all, the only woman on the landmark Wanted: The Outlaws album, therecord that launched the Outlaw Country genre and was the first country album to go platinum. She also tasted personal commercial success with the #1-single “I’m Not Lisa.” But offstage, life was a challenge, as Waylon pursued his addictions and battled his demons. Having drifted from the church as a young woman, Jessi returned to her faith and found in it a source of strength in the turmoil of living with Waylon. In the 1980s, Waylon helped launch the super group The Highwaymen with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson, and the hits kept rolling, as did Waylon’s reckless living. Amid it all, Jessi faithfully prayed for her husband until finally, at Thanksgiving 2001, Waylon found Jesus, just months before he died. An Outlaw and a Lady is a powerful story of American music, of love in the midst of heartache, and of faith that sustains.
