Book excerpt: There is very little in this eleventh volume of Topics in Photosynthesis which could have been written when the first volume was published fifteen years ago. Advances over the last decade have been spectacular, most particularly in our understanding of the photosystems that is the subject of this volume. After a comparative introducution of bacterial and plant photosystems, the book begins with a consideration of what is theoretically possible in energy conversion. This is followed by light harvesting in photosystems II, followed by its molecular biology, protein engineering, thermoluminescence, photoinhibition, the effect of herbicides and heat shock, and, most important function of all and one about which so little is yet understood at the molecular level, the process by which it evolves oxygen. The last three chapters deal with the equivalent processes of photosystem I. The whole volume tells the story of a natural system of incredible ingenuity and complexity, but which as the chapters unfold, is seen to be within our grasp and eventual ability to comprehend.

Book excerpt: Elena Bakalova is one of the most famous Bulgarian bioenergy therapists. She has worked by her own methodology for diagnostic and healing since 1988. She participated in international congresses and conferences with papers and displays. Her diagnostic is fully innocuous and it is developed on the base of discoveries and achievements of ancient and contemporary medicine and it can be used with classical methods for diagnostic. It is a way for the self-knowledge, which shows the perspective for extra progress of our abilities. It displays new possibilities in front of each person, no only as an object, but as an active participator in the care of its own health.

Book Synopsis Current Topics in Bioenergetics by : D. Rao Sanadi
Download or read book Current Topics in Bioenergetics written by D. Rao Sanadi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-06-28 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Topics in Bioenergetics, Volume 10 provides information pertinent to the developments in the study of dynamic mechanisms in functioning muscle by following fluctuations in kinetic states. This book explores the method that permits analysis of cyclic rotational motions in cross-bridge formation and has considerable potential in other bioenergetics systems. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the structure and function of muscles. This text then examines the bioenergetic aspects of nitrogen fixation. Other chapters consider one aspect of the regulation of the in vivo activity of organelles, namely, the regulation of mitochondrial activities at the level of substrate. This book discusses as well the status of the controversial findings on the proton–oxygen ratios in mitochondria and the mechanism of H+ pumping in oxidative reactions. The final chapter deals with the usefulness of bacterial mutants in the study of cell metabolism. This book is a valuable resource for biologists and biochemists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Current Topics in Bioenergetics, Volume 6 provides information pertinent to the phenomenon of energy transduction. This book covers a wide variety of topics, including photosynthesis, muscle contraction, transport across membranes, and oxidative phosphorylation. Organized into six chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the solute transport functions of membrane vesicles from kidney and intestine. Other chapters consider the energy-transducing mechanisms in bacteria and chromoplast from the standpoint of mechanism. This book discusses as well ionophores and channel formers as powerful tools in the study of membrane function. The final chapter deals with the metabolic link between fundamental cell physiological events, such as hormonal perturbation of metabolism and cell development, on the one hand, and an altered ability of mitochondria to transport Ca2+, on the other. This book is a valuable resource for bioenergeticists, biochemists, biologists, and microbiologists.
