Book excerpt: In this book, Dr. Dario Polisano will give you the answers that no one has ever given you regarding food and nutrition. He will explain how to achieve psycho-physical well-being, resetting and detoxifying your body, followed by a gradual reintroduction of the allowed foods. You can finally lose all excess weight in a quick and healthy fashion. Most people know the relationship between diet and health, and many among them already understand that gluten, dairy products, and sugars (among other things) are harmful to one's well-being. And yet, all too often, when we go into specifics trying to reach an explanation about the real reasons and the real harmful effects of these foods, we find ourselves without answers. In this book you will find the answers you have been looking for for some timeclear answers, expressed with simple but thorough explanations, and all based on scientific evidence. The answers that nobody has ever given you. You will also discover what the true Mediterranean diet entails, and learn how to follow it to improve your health. You will understand the reasons why certain illnesses arise, but above all, how to intervene in order to reset your body will be explained to you, through a targeted food program which will allow you to come into your best physical shape. For those who want to lose weight quickly, healthily and permanently, this is the book for you! Those who do not need to lose weight, but who live with more or less serious health problems will also find this book very useful. Dr. Dario Polisano is a biologist-nutritionist with degrees in ”Pharmaceutical Science Applied to Health Products” and ”Food Science and Human Nutrition.” He is an expert in clinical nutrition, and he is registered in the Honor Roll of Nutritionists. Today he continuously updates his course of study; in fact, he is now completing a master's degree in naturopathy and has achieved countless advanced courses on nutrition and on food integrators for cancer patients. After radically changing how he eats, and solving the countless health problems that had plagued him for years, he decided to help others by spreading his diet method, which he developed after long years of study. Dr. Dario Polisano affirms that we must not suppress the symptoms of our body, but rather interpret them and take action on the biological mechanisms that caused them. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Michael Ignatieff draws on his extensive experience as a writer and commentator on world affairs to present a penetrating account of the successes, failures, and prospects of the human rights revolution. Since the United Nations adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, this revolution has brought the world moral progress and broken the nation-state's monopoly on the conduct of international affairs. But it has also faced challenges. Ignatieff argues that human rights activists have rightly drawn criticism from Asia, the Islamic world, and within the West itself for being overambitious and unwilling to accept limits. It is now time, he writes, for activists to embrace a more modest agenda and to reestablish the balance between the rights of states and the rights of citizens. Ignatieff begins by examining the politics of human rights, assessing when it is appropriate to use the fact of human rights abuse to justify intervention in other countries. He then explores the ideas that underpin human rights, warning that human rights must not become an idolatry. In the spirit of Isaiah Berlin, he argues that human rights can command universal assent only if they are designed to protect and enhance the capacity of individuals to lead the lives they wish. By embracing this approach and recognizing that state sovereignty is the best guarantee against chaos, Ignatieff concludes, Western nations will have a better chance of extending the real progress of the past fifty years. Throughout, Ignatieff balances idealism with a sure sense of practical reality earned from his years of travel in zones of war and political turmoil around the globe. Based on the Tanner Lectures that Ignatieff delivered at Princeton University's Center for Human Values in 2000, the book includes two chapters by Ignatieff, an introduction by Amy Gutmann, comments by four leading scholars--K. Anthony Appiah, David A. Hollinger, Thomas W. Laqueur, and Diane F. Orentlicher--and a response by Ignatieff.

Book excerpt: The First Conference on materials science and engineering, including physics, physical chemistry, condensed matter chemistry, and technology in general, was held in September 1995, in Herceg Novi. An initiative to establish Yugoslav Materials Research Society was born at the conference and, similar to other MR societies in the world, the programme was made and objectives determined. The Yugoslav Materials Research Society (Yu-MRS), a nongovernment and non-profit scientific association, was founded in 1997 to promote multidisciplinary goal-oriented research in materials science and engineering. The main task and objective of the Society has been to encourage creativity in materials research and engineering to reach a harmonic coordination between achievements in this field in our country and analogous activities in the world with an aim to include our country into global international projects. Until 2003, Conferences were held every second year and then they grew into Annual Conferences that were traditionally held in Herceg Novi in September of every year. In 2007 Yu-MRS formed two new MRS: MRS-Serbia (official successor of Yu-MRS) and MRS-Montenegro (in founding). In 2008, MRS – Serbia became a member of FEMS (Federation of European Materials Societies). The Twelfth Annual Conference YUCOMAT 2010 was held on September 6-10, 2010 in Heceg Novi, Montenegro

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Conference on biomedical applications of. lasers ~Ias organized by the Quantum Electronics Divisional Board of the European Physical Society (E.P.S.) and held at the Villa of Poggio Imperiale in Florence, September 3-6, 1979. As kno~m, laser surgery (especially microsurgery and endoscopic photo coagulation) has recently made important progress, and the field is expand i ng rapidly. Very significant applications of lasers have also been achieved in Bi ology during recent years (cell microsurgery, cell counting and sorting, cytofluorimeter devices, etc.) and the potential of laser techniques in this field is nO~1 sufficiently well establ ished. A new class of applications of laserradiJtion in Medicine has recently been made possible by important results obtained with low intensity (non coagulative) visible lasers, such as photodynamic therapy of tumors. At the same time important branches of Medicine, where light effects are studied and optical techniques are presently used for a certain number of clinical applications, such as dermatology and pediatry, appear to be still in their infancy as far as the proper use of optical radiation and techniques, and the understanding of fundamental photoinduced biological processes are con cerned. Moreover, laser photobiology appears a very promising field for the investigation of fundamental processes at the biomolecular level.
