Book excerpt: The Special Joint Committee on Physician-Assisted Dying met in January and February of 2016, and the report adopted by a majority of committee members set out recommendations for a legislative framework on assisted dying.10 The report emphasized the need for the federal government to work collaboratively with the provinces on this issue. [...] The preamble in Bill C-7 also addresses the evolution of the law as a consequence of the Truchon case, stating that Parliament no longer sees the need to limit MAID to individuals whose natural death is reasonably foreseeable (though acknowledging the need for extra safeguards in such cases).
