Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As I grew up in the '50s, we didn't hear anything about Bigfoot. Growing up in the timber business and in the woods a lot, I saw things that I questioned as to what made or caused them-a small tree broke over up to eight to ten feet or trees in a teepee together or rocks piled on top of each other in places where no people would have been and where roots had been dug up and stumps dug up. Bears do not do these kinds of things, and we didn't have many bears in our area anyhow. Then in the '70s, the Bigfoot stories started mostly from the Western states and the Rocky Mountains. So I stated putting two and two together if it was true, a creature in the woods that would do all these things that I saw. I started slowly becoming a believer in this creature. What else would do all these things? I never worried about what people thought of me. So I started talking to people about Bigfoot, and that I believed in them. After a number of years, these people started coming to me with these stories about their sightings. Many people told me to write about Bigfoot, so here it is, the true stories of happenings from myself and other people. Now do you believe?

Book excerpt: The definitive guide to Bigfoot, Sasquatch, Yeti, and other man-primates from an established author and respected expert on the unexplained and paranormal. Does a hulking, hairy, 800-pound, nine-foot-tall, elusive primate roam the woods and forests throughout North America—and the world? What should we make of the grainy videos and photos and the thousands of eyewitness reports? Audio-recordings exist purporting to be the creatures’ eerie chatter and bone-chilling screaming. Whether called Sasquatch, Yeti, Bigfoot, or something else, bipedal primates appear in folklore, legends, and eyewitness accounts in every state of the union and many places around the world. The fascination with the man-beast is stronger than ever in today’s pop culture. Exploring the history, movies, and literature, the conspiracy theorizing, and the world of the supernatural, The Bigfoot Book: The Encyclopedia of Sasquatch, Yeti, and Cryptid Primates is a comprehensive resource to the man-beast. With nearly 200 entries and 120 photographs, drawings, and illustrations, it is the definitive guide to understanding, hunting, and avoiding the brute, as well as discovering the facts behind the sightings and horrifying tales. It covers 400 years of folklore, mythology, history, and pop culture, including Native American lore, the “wild men” reports in the pages of 19th century-era American newspapers, Florida's Myakka Skunk Ape, Australia's Yowie, China's Yeren, Himalayas’ Yeti, Russian expeditions, Harry and the Hendersons, Exists and the countless movies titled Bigfoot, as well as specials on the television shows Animal Planet, Discovery Channel and National Geographic Channel, scientific reports and findings, and much, much more. Various documentaries and reality television shows have all superficially tackled the subject, but Nick Redfern presents a truly complete and comprehensive look at cryptid primates. It is a richly researched reference, overflowing with fascinating information to make readers think—and reconsider their next camping trip.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last August, two men in rural Georgia announced that they had killed Bigfoot. The claim drew instant, feverish attention, leading to more than 1,000 news stories worldwide—despite the fact that nearly everyone knew it was a hoax. Though Bigfoot may not exist, there’s no denying Bigfoot mania. With Bigfoot, Joshua Blu Buhs traces the wild and wooly story of America’s favorite homegrown monster. He begins with nineteenth-century accounts of wildmen roaming the forests of America, treks to the Himalayas to reckon with the Abominable Snowman, then takes us to northern California in 1958, when reports of a hairy hominid loping through remote woodlands marked Bigfoot’s emergence as a modern marvel. Buhs delves deeply into the trove of lore and misinformation that has sprung up around Bigfoot in the ensuing half century. We meet charlatans, pseudo-scientists, and dedicated hunters of the beast—and with Buhs as our guide, the focus is always less on evaluating their claims than on understanding why Bigfoot has inspired all this drama and devotion in the first place. What does our fascination with this monster say about our modern relationship to wilderness, individuality, class, consumerism, and the media? Writing with a scientist’s skepticism but an enthusiast’s deep engagement, Buhs invests the story of Bigfoot with the detail and power of a novel, offering the definitive take on this elusive beast.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Abominable Snowman is one of the most popular monsters in modern mythology. Like that other favorite, the Loch Ness Monster, the Yeti (or Bigfoot or Sasquatch) gained worldwide publicity through a photograph - the sharp, unmistakable picture of a huge footprint in the snow, taken in 1951 by Eric Shipton of the Everest Reconnaissance Expedition. Additionally, in 1967, a rare film of the creature was shot in Northern California by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, which catapulted the apeman to even greater fame. The aim of this book, by a well-known anthropologist who has been interested in the monster phenomenon for twenty years, is to disentangle the rational from the irrational, the legend from the living animal.Whether Bigfoot is an idea or an animal, says John Napier, he plays an important cultural role - as a stabilizing force in primitive societies, and as an essential source of mystery in the sophisticated West. His book is the most thorough scrutiny yet of the Sasquatch. He presents a wealth of fascinating evidence, both verbal and visual; the conclusions he leaves to the reader.

Book excerpt: This book is an ethnographic exploration and general overview of what people believe about the cryptid called Bigfoot, otherwise known in North America as Sasquatch. This anthropological study covers how and what people understand about Bigfoot and cryptozoology, but focuses on the perspective of believers. Those within the Bigfoot subculture have unique cosmologies, views, experiences, and biases that help them learn. understand, and define reality in their own ways, which colors their perspectives and aids them in their narratives to explain the phenomenon. The ethno-historical viewpoint, including Native/First Nations beliefs, are covered in this book, which describes folklore, legends, and myths about these Wildmen of the forest. Included are place-names maps, the 'five types of people', true skeptics, the Parks and Forest Service viewpoint, Bigfoot organizations and their research, cultural geography, the alleged new owner of the PG Film, what people think about physical and anecdotal evidence, the paranormal aspect, PTSD/trauma related incidences, the rhetoric around Bigfoot culture and language/communication, habituation techniques, the Relict Hominoid Inquiry, orang-pendek, Bigfoot in popular culture, as well as a deeper look into the symbolic-cultural projection effect, the pro-kill 'type' of Bigfoot believer, and more. This book is not set out to prove or disprove the existence of Bigfoot and is purposefully neutral in that regard. What the author does look for is the emic (inside) view of what believers believe, plus why and how that happens, presenting a strong cultural aspect behind these beliefs through cultural sharing and enculturation. But this also raises questions as to what people think Bigfoot might be based on eyewitness testimonies, especially in light of physical evidence or personal sighting accounts, and focuses on how people describe their experiences, which sometimes causes a liminal state where they go from 'unbeliever' to becoming a true 'believer'.

Book excerpt: Denver Riggleman is a logical guy—he has to be, as a government data analytics expert. But at the same time, he’s been haunted since childhood by the memory of an inexplicable encounter with—Something—that he and his grandfather met unexpectedly in the woods. Denver’s ongoing curiosity about what it might have been, and his fascination with the fringe element of Bigfoot Believers, leads him on an “official” investigation into the world of Bigfoot’s fervent disciples and their eclectic belief systems. The Mating Habits of Bigfoot takes you deep into a world dedicated to studying a creature whose existence cannot be proved, but that doesn’t stop its devotees from learning its habits, language, and dietary preferences. Wandering haphazardly through the woods, seeing things that aren’t there and hoping for the miracle of provable contact, the Bigfoot crusaders attempt to find their evasive hero-God…while speculating about whether his anatomy is proportionate. Hilarious and thought-provoking, this book will challenge what you think you know about reality.

Book excerpt: Inspired by her popular Wild Thing podcast, journalist Laura Krantz incorporates the scientific method and her journalistic skills to determine if Bigfoot is real—now in paperback When journalist Laura Krantz discovered that her long-lost cousin, Grover Krantz, a distinguished anthropologist and professor at Washington State University, had devoted much of his career to the search for Bigfoot, she couldn’t quite believe it. A natural skeptic and a strong believer in facts, Krantz decided to conduct her own quest for the most famous and elusive mythical creature. The Search for Sasquatch takes readers through the big guy’s fun, fascinating, and complex world, posing the question: Could Bigfoot be out there? Exploring the gray area between myth and science, Krantz takes readers on a strange, surreal, and surprising hunt for the fabled Sasquatch—showing us how to challenge our gut assumptions and open our minds to new possibilities, to think critically, and to use the scientific method along the way. The Search for Sasquatch asks readers to evaluate the evidence it presents and make up their own minds, all the while considering why Bigfoot might be important—even if we don’t find him.

Sasquatch, also known as Bigfoot, is a cryptid—a creature of cryptozoology. Cryptozoology is the study of creatures not recognized by traditional science, and it is the quest to understand things that cannot be proven via ordinary channels. Kelly Milner Halls interviews cryptozoologists, linguistics experts, anthropologists, biologists, and regular people like us who have seen, heard, or maybe stumbled across evidence leading them to believe that Sasquatch is real. Serious Sasquatch seekers are as skeptical as unbelievers. They are not out to collect great stories. They are out to put together facts. The difference is, they are willing to keep an open mind. Do you believe in Sasquatch?

In "The Lost Tribes of Bigfoot," Furek explores the uncharted waters surrounding the cryptid's forbidden realm in a rousing and controversial exposé." - Doug Hajicek, MonsterQuest In his latest book, Maxim Furek, a former psychologist and rock journalist, delves into the intriguing world of Bigfoot synchronicity, embracing interdimensional theories, mass hallucinations, and Jung's collective unconscious. Furek's dedication to the subject is evident in the hundreds of accounts from researchers who strive to answer the question, "If it's not flesh and blood, then what is it?" This question forms the heart of the author's evocative thesis as he tirelessly scours American and Canadian records for evidence of this elusive cryptid. For centuries, early newspapers printed accounts of bipedal creatures, variously listed as "Wild Men," "Hairy Giants," or "Sasquatch," a narrative that has expanded into a larger scientific, religious, and paranormal reality. This reality, as Furek presents it, is a complex web of scientific theories, religious interpretations, and paranormal phenomena that intersect in the study of Bigfoot. Furek's investigation into the tribes of true believers congregating at conferences, campsites, and online websites is a testament to their shared philosophy and "Bigfoot's sociocultural energy." He takes issue with hoaxers, whom he charges "have sold their souls," but his respect for the believers is unwavering. The author challenges traditional beliefs about Bigfoot and encourages readers to embrace the seemingly impossible. After reading this book, your perspective on Sasquatch will be forever changed as you look at traditional science, anthropology, and religion through a different lens and with a different expectation.
