Book excerpt: Excerpt from Biennial Report of the Superintendent of Public Instruction of North Carolina for the Scholastic Years 1912-1913 and 1913-1914 Eleven and one-half days have been added to the average annual school term of White schools of the State, and days to the average annual school term of the colored schools of the State, days to the white rural school term and days to colored rural school term. In newly established local tax districts of course, the school term has been greatly lengthened and in many instances doubled. There has 'been an increase of in the number of white teachers employed, and 275 in the number of col ored teachers employed. There has been an increase in the average ah nual salary of white teachers of and in the average annual salary of colored teachers. The average annual salary of rural school teachers has been increased There has been a necessary increase in the expense of collecting, expending and administering a larger fund, and an increase in the current expenses for longer terms with more schoolrooms and teachers. The total expenditures for all schools during 1914 was which represents an increase of over 1912, an increase of in rural expenditures, and in city expenditures.
