Book Synopsis PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN by : David HouŽto
Download or read book PROMOTION DE LA SANTE ET AUTONOMISATION DANS LE CONTEXTE AFRICAIN written by David HouŽto and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2014-02-26 with total page 327 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Download or read book Avian Reservoirs written by Frédéric Keck and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2020-01-17 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: After experiencing the SARS outbreak in 2003, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan all invested in various techniques to mitigate future pandemics involving myriad cross-species interactions between humans and birds. In some locations microbiologists allied with veterinarians and birdwatchers to follow the mutations of flu viruses in birds and humans and create preparedness strategies, while in others, public health officials worked toward preventing pandemics by killing thousands of birds. In Avian Reservoirs Frédéric Keck offers a comparative analysis of these responses, tracing how the anticipation of bird flu pandemics has changed relations between birds and humans in China. Drawing on anthropological theory and ethnographic fieldwork, Keck demonstrates that varied strategies dealing with the threat of pandemics—stockpiling vaccines and samples in Taiwan, simulating pandemics in Singapore, and monitoring viruses and disease vectors in Hong Kong—reflect local geopolitical relations to mainland China. In outlining how interactions among pathogens, birds, and humans shape the way people imagine future pandemics, Keck illuminates how interspecies relations are crucial for protecting against such threats.

Book Synopsis La transition démographique de l'Afrique by : David Canning
Download or read book La transition démographique de l'Afrique written by David Canning and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2016-09-08 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pastiche, imitation but also a continuation of Voltaire's most celebrated tale, Candide, seconde partie, picks up many of the original's themes. Leibniz, Descartes and Newton are gently mocked; Pascal is accused of trying to make us hate humankind. If it cannot begin to compare with Voltaire's masterpiece, the tale is nonetheless an amusing and instructive imitation.

Book Synopsis Preparing for an Aging World by : Panel on a Research Agenda and New Data for an Aging World
Download or read book Preparing for an Aging World written by Panel on a Research Agenda and New Data for an Aging World and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2001-06-29 with total page 4 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Aging is a process that encompasses virtually all aspects of life. Because the speed of population aging is accelerating, and because the data needed to study the aging process are complex and expensive to obtain, it is imperative that countries coordinate their research efforts to reap the most benefits from this important information. Preparing for an Aging World looks at the behavioral and socioeconomic aspects of aging, and focuses on work, retirement, and pensions; wealth and savings behavior; health and disability; intergenerational transfers; and concepts of well-being. It makes recommendations for a collection of new, cross-national data on aging populations—data that will allow nations to develop policies and programs for addressing the major shifts in population age structure now occurring. These efforts, if made internationally, would advance our understanding of the aging process around the world.
