Book Synopsis Stratigraphic reservoir characterization for petroleum geologists, geophysicists, and engineers by : Roger M. Slatt
Download or read book Stratigraphic reservoir characterization for petroleum geologists, geophysicists, and engineers written by Roger M. Slatt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2006-11-03 with total page 492 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reservoir characterization as a discipline grew out of the recognition that more oil and gas could be extracted from reservoirs if the geology of the reservoir was understood. Prior to that awakening, reservoir development and production were the realm of the petroleum engineer. In fact, geologists of that time would have felt slighted if asked by corporate management to move from an exciting exploration assignment to a more mundane assignment working with an engineer to improve a reservoir’s performance. Slowly, reservoir characterization came into its own as a quantitative, multidisciplinary endeavor requiring a vast array of skills and knowledge sets. Perhaps the biggest attractor to becoming a reservoir geologist was the advent of fast computing, followed by visualization programs and theaters, all of which allow young geoscientists to practice their computing skills in a highly technical work environment. Also, the discipline grew in parallel with the evolution of data integration and the advent of asset teams in the petroleum industry. Finally, reservoir characterization flourished with the quantum improvements that have occurred in geophysical acquisition and processing techniques and that allow geophysicists to image internal reservoir complexities.

Book excerpt: "Discusses the morphology and development of a wide range of hydrocarbon trap situations, illustrating these whenever possible with good quality seismic examples and taking account of seismostratigraphic characteristics where these are relevant to the particular trap type. There is some general examination of morphological aspects of various classes of trap, accompanied in many instances by case-history examples from the literature. Although the accent is on North Sea traps, a large number of examples has been chosen from many areas worldwide."--Back cover.
Book Synopsis Sequence Stratigraphy in Offshore South African Divergent Basins by : Leonard Franklin Brown
Download or read book Sequence Stratigraphy in Offshore South African Divergent Basins written by Leonard Franklin Brown and published by AAPG. This book was released on 1995 with total page 191 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is the result of an offshore exploration and drilling programme by Soekor (Pty) Ltd in the Republic of South Africa beginning in 1987. Seismic stratigraphic data and borehole information were incorporated and released in what was one of the first detailed and comprehensive published examples of the new field of sequence stratigraphy. The project was conducted over a South African offshore area of 175,000 square kilometres, in the Pletmos, Bredasdorp, and Orange basins, which are examples of divergent basins associated with the breakup of Gondwana.
