Book Synopsis Investigating Archaeological Cultures by : Benjamin W. Roberts
Download or read book Investigating Archaeological Cultures written by Benjamin W. Roberts and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-06-04 with total page 394 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Defining "culture" is an important step in undertaking archaeological research. Any thorough study of a particular culture first has to determine what that culture contains-- what particular time period, geographic region, and group of people make up that culture. The study of archaeology has many accepted definitions of particular cultures, but recently these accepted definitions have come into question. As archaeologists struggle to define cultures, they also seek to define the components of culture. This volume brings together 21 international case studies to explore the meaning of "culture" for regions around the globe and periods from the Paleolithic to the Bronze Age and beyond. Taking lessons and overarching themes from these studies, the contributors draw important conclusions about cultural transmission, technology development, and cultural development. The result is a comprehensive model for approaching the study of culture, broken down into regions (Russia, Continental Europe, North America, Britain, and Africa), materials (Lithics, Ceramics, Metals) and time periods. This work will be valuable to all archaeologists and cultural anthropologists, particularly those studying material culture.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Biometrical Genetics by : Kenneth Mather
Download or read book Introduction to Biometrical Genetics written by Kenneth Mather and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 239 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the second edition of Biometricai Genetics, which appeared in 1971, we set out to give a general account of the subject as it had developed up to that time. Such an account necessarily had to be comprehensive and reasonably detailed. Although it could be, and indeed has been, used by those who were making an acquaintance with this branch of genetics for the first time, it went beyond their needs. We have been encouraged therefore to write an introduction to the genetical analysis of continuous variation aimed primarily at senior undergraduate and postgraduate students, and concentrating on basic considerations, basic principles and basic techniques. This has meant, of course, omitting all reference to some phenomena of more restricted interest, notably sex-linkage, ma ternal effects, haploidy and polyploidy. It has meant, too, that even with some phenomena which have been included, like interactions, linkage and effective factors, the discussions cannot go into full detail. Anyone who is interested, however, can find further information in Biometricai Genetics, to which detailed references have been given where it ap peared that these would be helpful. The order of presentation has been changed with the aim of making it easier for beginners.

Book Synopsis The Transition from Infancy to Language by : Lois Bloom
Download or read book The Transition from Infancy to Language written by Lois Bloom and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1993 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this important volume, Lois Bloom brings together the theoretical and empirical work she has carried out on early lexical development. Its focus is on the expressive power children acquire as they begin to talk and, in particular, on contributions from cognitive development, affect expression, and the social context for making the transition from prelinguistic expression to the expression of contents of mind. The first half of the book reviews the developments in infancy that enable the emergence of language and presents the theoretical perspective required for an understanding of the longitudinal study described in the second half. The book's main thesis is that language is acquired for expressing contents of mind and that its usefulness as a 'tool' is of only secondary importance. The Transition from Infancy to Language makes a major contribution to our knowledge of early lexical development, providing a persuasive theoretical model for researchers and students.
Book Synopsis Mickelson Clarified Concordance of the New Testament, MCT by : Jonathan K. Mickelson
Download or read book Mickelson Clarified Concordance of the New Testament, MCT written by Jonathan K. Mickelson and published by Livingson Press. This book was released on 2019-04-19 with total page 520 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An Advanced New Testament Concordance for the Mickelson Clarified Translation (MCT).(R) A precise English concordance to the Hebraic-Koine Greek of the Clarified Textus Receptus (1550 Stephanus-2019 Mickelson), presented with Strong's Numbers and the complete use of the Mickelson Context Numbers.(c) This advanced biblical concordance lists the occurrences of each word used in the Mickelson Clarified Translation according to the word and its context, along with a listing of any root words, comparatives, and other words of direct importance. This arrangement allows for in-depth study and visibility of discrete and related concepts. The companion dictionary also helps the student move beyond the traditional limitations of English translation. This dictionary reconciles biblical English vocabulary with biblical Greek vocabulary in order to assure the highest degree of conceptual integrity while maintaining English word consistency with the Greek text itself. The companion Scripture translation uses this vocabulary to reveal the fullness of the biblical Hebraic-Koine Greek, along with using enhanced grammar and punctuation. The Mickelson Clarified Translation was hand-translated into an easily readable English dialect that preserves the distinct concepts and contextual meanings used in the Hebraic biblical Greek text. This translation carefully interweaves biblical patterns of speech and communication into modern English. The benefit is a more accurate presentation and correlation of biblical thoughts, concepts, and instructions. The Literary Reading Order arranges the books of the New Testament for optimal reading and correlation according to the literary patterns discerned in the Old and New Testament Scriptures. The Promise contained in the Holy Scriptures is Redemption unto Eternal Life for the ones trusting upon the Good News and specifically upon the Name of the Anointed-One, first to the Jew, and also to the Gentile.
