This book was released on 2021-01-05 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Collection Of Essays On Complexity And Management, A - Proceedings Of The Summer School On Managerial Complexity by : Walter Baets
Download or read book Collection Of Essays On Complexity And Management, A - Proceedings Of The Summer School On Managerial Complexity written by Walter Baets and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-04-01 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A tendency exists in management theory and practice today to accept that our linear and deterministic ways of thinking about managerial problems create more problems than they solve. In the field of strategy studies, for instance, one can observe a growing interest in learning and organisational flexibility — IT gives importance to distributed cognition and adaptive systems. Management theorists are keenly observing developments surrounding complexity and chaos theory in science, and management researchers are attempting to apply emerging theories to managerial problems.Although there are still a limited number of applications in the managerial world, the Santa Fe Institute and the Los Alamos Center for Nonlinear Studies (both in the US) have been active for several years in closely related fields and, more important, adopt a multidisciplinary approach. Such applied research is seldom present in academic management journals. It seems, however, that the business community is interested in the implications of chaos and complexity for management as well as adopting a multidisciplinary approach to strategy and organisational change. This volume, constituting the proceedings of the Summer School on Managerial Complexity, held in Granada, Spain, on 11-25 July 1998, will benefit students and researchers in chaos and dynamical systems.

Book Synopsis Ecosystem Services – Concept, Methods and Case Studies by : Karsten Grunewald
Download or read book Ecosystem Services – Concept, Methods and Case Studies written by Karsten Grunewald and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-18 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nature provides us with many services seemingly for free: recharged groundwater, fertile soil and plant biomass created by photosynthesis. We human beings draw extensive benefits from these “ecosystem services,” or ES – food, water supply, recreation and protection from natural hazards. Major international studies, such as the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, have addressed the enormous role of biodiversity and ecosystems to human well-being, and they draw particular attention to the consequences resulting from the reduction or loss of these services. These very topical issues are being addressed by authors/scientists in a wide variety of disciplines – and their approaches, terminologies and methodological specifics are just as diverse. What, for example, does the efficacy of nature or natural capital mean? Which values of nature are particularly important, how are they distributed in space and time and how can they be assessed and the relevant knowledge promoted? Can all ecosystem services be quantified and even monetarised? What should be done to ensure that the multiple services of nature will be available also in future? This book explains the multifaceted concept of ecosystem services, provides a methodological framework for its analysis and assessment, and discusses case examples, particularly from Germany. It is addressed to scientists and practitioners in the administrative, volunteer and professional spheres, especially those who deal with environment, landscape management and nature conservation and regional and land-use planning. The target group includes experts from the business community, politicians and decision makers, students and all those interested in fundamental ecological, economic, ethical and environmental issues.

This book was released on 2010-06-16 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For successful innovation in business the responsible managers need a consistent view of the individual processes as well as an assessment of key projects in all phases of the development. Generating new ideas, fast examination of its feasibility requires skilled methods for evaluation of these ideas, plans and especially costs and revenues. Business models, calculation methods and some assessments of certain options are presented by the authors. The ability to identify risks and appropriate responses to misperceptions are important milestones in the innovation process. From analysis of problems to the introduction of market-ready solutions, legal requirements, business demands and risk management systems are discussed. Concepts promoting uniform, binding rules for ratings in the innovation process are treated. The identification of target pricing, target costing and litigation, the evaluation of the solution to calculate risk aspects as tasks in financial management and innovation controlling are part of the content. The authors demonstrate that any innovation in different industries requires a strategic and financial project management. Monetary assessment of the individual processes, a detailed patent portfolio and accounts management for innovation processes are of enormous importance. The book is completed by applications of the Berlin Balanced Scorecard Concept with practical examples from the innovation projects in pharmaceutical and technical business.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Praise for Intangible Assets "In Intangible Assets, Jeffrey Cohen presents an informative, thought-provoking and practical look at an increasingly important component of every business's worth. He describes the art and science of identifying assets that have clear economic benefit, but are typically not found on the balance sheet, and he provides an invaluable framework within which the reader can value these assets, despite their elusive nature." --Rick Westervelt, President, Skylist, Inc. "Jeffrey Cohen's integrative approach to conceptual issues of intangible assets is creative and a refreshing contribution. He brings law, economics, finance, and accounting to the same table, which results in a comprehensive framework for understanding how value is created and sustained. His construct of 'proto-assets' and 'portfolio of intangible economic benefits' is key. Written in an easy-to-read style with many practical examples, this book will be useful for both novice and experienced professionals." --W. Dana Northcut, PhD, Adjunct Associate Professor of Accounting Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago Principal, Chicago Partners, LLC "This volume is the perfect resource for newcomers to IP valuation. Through lucid explanations and well-chosen illustrations, it does for the reader exactly what a valuation expert should do for a client--it makes the abstract concrete. But this volume is not just for the novice; it holds insights that will be useful to IP experts in law, accounting, and economics." --Edward F. Malone, Partner, Jenner & Block LLP

This book was released on 2013-10-11 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive review of the current knowledge on writing and publishing scientific research papers and the social contexts. The book collects and synthesizes research from a range of disciplines, including applied linguistics, the sociology of science, sociolinguistics, bibliometrics, composition studies, and science education. This multidisciplinary approach helps the reader gain a solid understanding of the subject. Standard English scientific writing style is also compared with science papers written in other languages. The book discusses the strengths and challenges faced by people with different degrees of science writing expertise and the role of journal editors and reviewers.
