Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "[This book] collects together, largely for the first time, a series of chapters dedicated to all the ways in which molecular modeling/computational chemistry can impact organic chemistry." -Christopher J. Cramer, author of Essentials ofComputational Chemistry: Theories and Models Computational Organic Chemistry provides a practical overview of the ways in which computational modeling methods and applications can be used in organic chemistry to predict the structure and reactivity of organic molecules. After a concise survey of computational methods, the book presents in-depth case studies that show how various computational methods have provided critical insight into the nature of organic mechanisms. With a focus on methodologies, this unique resource: * Discusses simple molecular properties, pericyclic reactions, carbenes and radicals, anion chemistry, solvent effects, and more * Features sidebars that offer a personal look at some of the leading practitioners in the field * Conveys the strengths and limitations of each method, so that readers develop a feel for the correct "tool" to use in the context of a specific problem * Further informs readers with a supporting Web site that provides links to materials cited and features a blog that discusses and provides links to new relevant articles at www.trinity.edu/sbachrac/coc/ This is a great reference for practicing physical organic and computational chemists, as well as a thought-provoking textbook for graduate-level courses in computational chemistry and organic chemistry.

Book excerpt: Ten years ago, Ingmar Bergman traded in the technological tools of filmmaking for the simpler devices of prose. Yet the cinematic lens still seems to reside between his thoughts and his words. Private Confessions continues Bergman's autobiographical project, which he began in two earlier novels and two volumes of memoirs. In the spare words of blocking and camera angles, this slim novel stages a story of adultery through which we see Bergman's attempts to understand his parents' troubled relationship. Through a series of revelatory confessions, Anna tells of her affair with her husband's young friend Tomas and her unhappiness with her life as wife of a dour country pastor. Bergman nails scenes in taut prose and stunning bursts of dialogue, but the overall story is unrelenting, with little to hold as beautiful, save the starkness of Bergman's expression and the deep probing of his own creative psyche.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the modeling and transmission theory of RF OAM communications. The book features the UCA-based RF point-to-point OAM communication system, the UCA-based RF point-to-multipoint OAM wireless backhaul network, the HCCL structure for long-distance OAM transmissions, and the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme. For the UCA-based RF point-to-point OAM communication system, a 2-D ESPRIT-based distance and AoA estimation method is first introduced, followed by an OAM reception scheme including the hybrid mechanical and electronic beam steering with the estimated AoA and the amplitude detection with the estimated distance. The proposed RF OAM communication scheme is extended to the RF OAM-MIMO system equipped with UCCAs. For the UCA-based RF point-to-multipoint OAM wireless backhaul network, an OAM-based multi-user distance and AoA estimation method is introduced, followed by a multi-user OAM preprocessing scheme. At last, the proposed methods are extended to the downlink multi-user OAM-MIMO wireless backhaul system equipped with UCCAs. Moreover, a novel HCCL structure is introduced to realize long-distance OAM transmission. For the UCA-based joint OAM RadCom scheme, an OAM-based 3-D super-resolution position estimation and rotation velocity detection method is introduced, and then the PCRB of the OAM-based estimates and the transmission rate of the integrated system are derived and analyzed. To achieve the best performance trade-off, the transmitted integrated OAM beams is optimized by means of an exhaustive search method. Finally, this book discusses future research directions to inspire further investigation in the field of RF OAM communications from different perspectives.
