Book Synopsis Surface and Interface Chemistry of Clay Minerals by : Robert Schoonheydt
Download or read book Surface and Interface Chemistry of Clay Minerals written by Robert Schoonheydt and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2018-11-05 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Surface and Interface Chemistry of Clay Minerals, Volume 9, delivers a fundamental understanding of the surface and interface chemistry of clay minerals, thus serving as a valuable resource for researchers active in the fields of materials chemistry and sustainable chemistry. Clay minerals, with surfaces ranging from hydrophilic, to hydrophobic, are widely studied and used as adsorbents. Adsorption can occur at the edges and surfaces of clay mineral layers and particles, and in the interlayer region. This diversity in properties and the possibility to tune the surface properties of clay minerals to match the properties of adsorbed molecules is the basis for study. This book requires a fundamental understanding of the surface and interface chemistry of clay minerals, and of the interaction between adsorbate and adsorbent. It is an essential resource for clay scientists, geologists, chemists, physicists, material scientists, researchers, and students. - Presents scientists and engineers with a resource they can rely on for their own research and work involving clay minerals - Includes an in-depth look at ion exchange, adsorption of inorganic and organic molecules, including polymers and proteins, and catalysis occurring at the surfaces of clay minerals - Includes materials chemistry of clay minerals with chiral clay minerals, optical materials and functional films

Book Synopsis Dubuffet and the City by : Sophie Berrebi
Download or read book Dubuffet and the City written by Sophie Berrebi and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dubuffet and the City. People, Place and Urban Space,? written and edited by renowned scholar Dr. Sophie Berrebi (University of Amsterdam), is the first in-depth study to address the work of Jean Dubuffet (1901-1984) in relation to the theme of the city. The book examines how the city plays a role in the formation and unfolding of Dubuffet?s practice and imagination as a material, a source, and a vehicle for ideas. It analyses works in which the artist depicts city dwellers, sites and urban spaces, and discusses his architectural projects from the 1960s and 1970s against the background of heated debates in the field of urbanism. The book accompanies and extends an exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Zurich (June?Sept 2018). Along with full color reproductions of art works the book reproduces little-known archival material from the archives of the Fondation Dubuffet. It also includes several texts by Dubuffet that are translated here in English for the first time.00Exhibition: Hauser & Wirth, Zürich, Switzerland (10.06.-01.09.2018).
Book Synopsis The Shape of Evidence by : Sophie Berrebi
Download or read book The Shape of Evidence written by Sophie Berrebi and published by Valiz/Vis-A-VIS. This book was released on 2014 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The shape of evidence' examines the role and use of visual documents in contemporary art, looking at artworks in which the document is valued not only as a source of information but also as a distinctive visual and critical form. It contends that for artists who use film, photography or written sources, adopting formats derived from specific professional, industrial, scientific of or commercial contexts, the document offers a way to develop a critical reflection around issues of representation, knowledge production, art and its history. It addresses several issues that are key both in art and in general culture today: the role of the museum and the archive, the role of documents and the trust that is placed in them, the circulation of such images and the historical genealogies that can be drawn in relation to images. It is based on a close reading of a select number of works of art (e.g. Christopher Williams, Fiona Tan, Jean-Luc Moulène), which makes it approachable and engaging with the reader. The book investigates objects and ideas drawn from a wide spectrum of areas including literature, history, photography history, scientific representation, surrealism, conceptual art, commercial photography etc. Ultimately the book invites viewers to reflect upon the production and interpretation of seemingly straightforward images, and proposes that some artists can show us through their practice how to turn these deceptively simple images inside out.

Book Synopsis Paris-Amsterdam Underground by : Christoph Lindner
Download or read book Paris-Amsterdam Underground written by Christoph Lindner and published by . This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The postwar histories of Paris and Amsterdam have been significantly defined by the notion of the “underground” as both a material and metaphorical space. Examining the underground traffic between the two cities, this book interrogates the countercultural histories of Paris and Amsterdam in the mid to late-twentieth century. Shuttling between Paris and Amsterdam, as well as between postwar avant-gardism and twenty-first century global urbanism, this interdisciplinary book seeks to create a mirroring effect over the notion of the underground as a driving force in the making of the contemporary European city.

Book Synopsis Willie Masters' Lonesome Wife by : William H. Gass
Download or read book Willie Masters' Lonesome Wife written by William H. Gass and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paean to the pleasures of language, Gass equates his text with the body of Babs Masters, the lonesome wife of the title, to advance the conceit that a parallel should exist between a woman and her lover and a book and its reader. Disappointed by her inattentive husband/reader, Babs engages in an exuberant display of the physical charms of language to entice an illicit new lover: a man named Gelvin in one sense, but more importantly, the reader of this "essay-novella" which, in the years since its first appearance in 1968 as a supplement to TriQuarterly, has attained the status of a postmodernist classic. Like Laurence Sterne and Lewis Carroll before him, Gass uses a variety of visual devices: photographs, comic-strip balloons, different typefaces, parallel story lines (sometimes three or four to the page), even coffee stains. As Larry McCaffery has pointed out, "the lonesome lady of the book's title, who is gradually revealed to be lady language herself, creates an elaborate series of devices which she hopes will draw attention to her slighted charms [and] force the reader to confront what she literally is: a physically exciting literary text."
