Book excerpt: Frank stood there with his newborn son, looking down on his wife. 'I think you look like a Ben to me. We will ask Mama what she thinks when she wakes up.' Frank sat down in the recliner next to the bed. He held his infant son, waiting in anticipation for Lauren to awake. Ben's Den is the touching tale of a boy who finds his comfort zones early in life. These 'dens' begin to change as he matures and starts living his own life. One day, a secret comes to light that has been kept from him his whole life and throws Ben's world for a spin. Will his dens be enough to shield him from the harshness of reality? Ben's Den is a story of joy and sadness, of good times and bad. Come along with author Edward Terrell as he paints a brilliant picture of a young man dealing with all life has to throw at him.

The pieces have been carefully chosen to offer a selection of interesting contemporary pieces alongside older and more well-known anthems. At the same time, it is recognised that many choirs have limited rehearsal time and, frequently, limited vocal resources, and the collection aims to provide works that are easily and quickly learned, with few splits in voice parts. In addition, many of the anthems can be adapted to work as unison settings with accompaniment, or in other flexible forms. Book Synopsis Life at Maripaston by : Johannes King
Download or read book Life at Maripaston written by Johannes King and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2014-10-20 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Matawai Maroon Johannes King (ca. 1830-1898) taught himself to read and write at an advanced age. He wanted to bridge the gap between the generations by publishing his "Book of Horrors" (Skrekiboekoe) and the present book which has been given the title Life at Marispaston. King wanted to explain the root of the problems between him and his elder brother, Chief Noah Andrai, representatives respectively of the church and the state at the village level. King wanted to justify his life in the eyes of the church, the EBG-Moravian Brethren, and his fellow Maroons. This book is an important contribution to the church history of Suriname, yet also offers insights into the history of the Maroon communities in Suriname. This book is one of the first original works in Sranantongo.
Book Synopsis On Cultivating Faith and Science by : Janez Juhant
Download or read book On Cultivating Faith and Science written by Janez Juhant and published by LIT Verlag Münster. This book was released on 2007 with total page 292 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ethical distress of the (post)modern world stimulates and directs us to reflect our ethical and cultural grounds. Man is a transcendent being. He cannot reach or put in order immediate goods he needs if he is not prepared to acknowledge the grounds of his person and develop the virtues of prudence, love, hope, faith, wisdom, justice, courage, temperance etc. These are ethical questions concerning different worldviews and cannot be solved only by scientific methods. Many people who in the past did not care for religion as such, now take seriously religious personal and societal aspects of humane life. The fundamental crucial questions of man are ethical questions. They are in various ways related or perplexed with the question of faith and of science.
Book Synopsis In Quest of the White Mandan by : Cash
Download or read book In Quest of the White Mandan written by Cash and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-05-16 with total page 366 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Quest of the White Mandan is about the white people who became integrated into the native Indian band of North Dakota Mandans. In the Seventeen hundreds the French Canadian explorer La Veranday with his sons found a Indian tribe with fair skinned people blue eyes, blonde and red haired, living in what was later to become North Dakota. Many years later Lewis and Clark found these fair skinned people with the Mandans as they made their trip to the Pacific. I learned about these people who must of come from Europe hundreds of years earlier. How did these people make their way into the center of North America?? Some speculate that they were Welsh people who came up the Mississippi River. In Newfoundland Canada, the dwellings built by the Vikings at Lance Meadows and the house built by the Mandans are exact replicas of each other. The waters of Hudson Bay flow into it from waters that lead into Lake Winnipeg after a land bridge is crossed. The Red River of North Dakota flows directly into Lake Winnipeg. Many Viking remains and artefacts have been found in Minnesota and Wisconsin. If the Vikings who settled in Lance Meadows found their way north into Hudson Bay, losing their boats to ice could easily happen. The only way out of this desolate place is south into the interior of North America. In Quest of the White Mandans Book One, is my version of how these people came to be the White Mandans. I have brought them to the shores of lake Winnipeg in book one. God willing, I will take them further to their final home on the Missouri River in North Dakota in Book Two.
Book Synopsis Cerebral Visual Impairment in Children by : Josef Zihl
Download or read book Cerebral Visual Impairment in Children written by Josef Zihl and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-24 with total page 347 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cerebral visual disorders have far-reaching consequences for child development. These have profound adverse effects on children’s education and success in school and also in later life, but, unfortunately, cerebral visual disorders often remain undiagnosed and untreated in the pediatric population. This book provides a state-of-the-art account of what is known about the development and disorders of visual perception in children. It covers the development and disorders of visual perception in children, their assessment, early intervention and management in an interdisciplinary context, both from a scientific as well as clinical perspective. Case studies illustrate the recommended assessment and rehabilitation procedures; synopses, boxes and check-lists complement the presentation of our recommendations for clinical practice.
Book Synopsis The Variations of Johannes Brahms by : Julian Littlewood
Download or read book The Variations of Johannes Brahms written by Julian Littlewood and published by Plumbago Books and Arts. This book was released on 2004 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variation is a fundamental musical principle, yet its most naked expression - variation form - resists all but the broadest of descriptions. This book offers listener, performer, analyst and composer an eclectic array of approaches to `Theme and Variations', including: patterns of departure and return; real versus perceived time; strategies of propulsion and closure in an intrinsically cyclic and open-ended form; the interplay of authorial voices deriving from dialogue between the `self' of variations and the `other' of their theme; critique of a theme through a set's generic references; drama and narrative achieved through textural and tonal control; and the intrinsic sound of a variation, so different from that of a freely composed work. These topics are introduced through a general survey of the form, seen through the prisms of the provenance of themes and the ideologies of sets, before being developed through close study of Brahms's variation sets and movements. Brahms was supremely aware of his place in music history and was uncommonly self-conscious in his manipulation of different techniques of composition. His variation sets - some of the most well-crafted and beloved examples - place the interplay of forms and styles at the heart of their identity. Moreover, in their stunning breadth and diversity they offer a microcosm of Brahms's entire output, a succinct revelation of his life-long concerns. Through them we marvel at his technical and poetic mastery, and journey to the heart of his creative character.

Download or read book I'm Just A Girl written by D. S. England and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2021-05-12 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is 2003 in Orlando, Florida, where twenty-two-year-old Alexandra Moody ekes out a living as a bartender, fretting over her bad boyfriend choices almost as much as the lingering effects of the computer virus. A virus that four years earlier wrecked global online networks, causing universal panic and the near-total collapse of economies worldwide. Alex's mundane existence is quickly thrown into turmoil after a series of bizarre encounters and horrific events seem to indicate she has a much bigger role to play in the country's future than she is willing to admit. Alex maintains "I'm just a girl," despite the growing evidence to the contrary and the voices she hears in her head telling her something quite different. Alex's raw and unfiltered narration take the reader on a strange journey filled with unforgettable characters, emotional upheaval, and unexpected twists leading to a suspenseful and surprising conclusion. Immensely readable and often wickedly funny, I'm Just a Girl is a totally original debut about one young woman's quest to find the best within herself.

Book excerpt: This book is also available in paperback. What is it like to rehabilitate sun bears in the rainforests of Malaysia? Why are sloth bears trained to dance? How is traditional Chinese medicine implicated in the deaths of black bears in North America? Bear Necessities answers all of these questions, and many more. Through the voices of activists, scientists, and educators, readers walk alongside those who pull sun bears from Vietnamese bile farms, track Andean bears in the rugged hills of Ecuador, work to protect Montana’s grizzlies in the courtroom, and gently heal the many wounded bears who live in sanctuaries around the world. Though almost every bear species is endangered or severely threatened, Bear Necessities offers hope through knowledge and understanding, which reside at the heart of change.
