Book Synopsis Electronic service delivery in the driver, vehicle and operator agencies in Great Britain by : Great Britain: National Audit Office
Download or read book Electronic service delivery in the driver, vehicle and operator agencies in Great Britain written by Great Britain: National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2008-01-16 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency, the Driving Standards Agency and the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency provide services for 42 million drivers, the keepers of 36 million vehicles, 100,000 commercial vehicle operators and 19,000 authorised MoT businesses in Great Britain. The services include issuing driving licences and vehicle registration documents and conducting driving and Heavy Goods Vehicle and Public Service Vehicle roadworthiness tests. The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is also responsible for collecting Vehicle Excise Duty, which raised £5 billion in 2006-07, working with a range of stakeholders, such as the police, to enforce collection of this Duty. The Agencies handled some 124 million customer transactions in 2006-07 for the range of services which could be made available electronically. This report examines six of the 15 services available electronically, in which the Agencies have invested at least £60 million to improve access and service delivery. The services accounted for 12.6 million electronic transactions in 2006-07: applications for provisional driving licence; booking of driving tests (both practical and theory); taking driving theory tests; upgrading from a provisional to full driving licence; buying car tax or making a Statutory Off-Road Notification; and changing commercial vehicle operators' records. The Agencies' investment of some £60 million in new technology to improve access and delivery of five of these services, and their further investment in the services for booking and taking the driving theory test, have made the services easier and quicker for customers to access and less burdensome to use. After taking account of the development cost, the services should also lead to savings of at least £33 million but to achieve these take-up must increase and some aspects of the services must improve.

This book was released on 2003-02-01 with total page 536 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The anthrax incidents following the 9/11 terrorist attacks put the spotlight on the nation's public health agencies, placing it under an unprecedented scrutiny that added new dimensions to the complex issues considered in this report. The Future of the Public's Health in the 21st Century reaffirms the vision of Healthy People 2010, and outlines a systems approach to assuring the nation's health in practice, research, and policy. This approach focuses on joining the unique resources and perspectives of diverse sectors and entities and challenges these groups to work in a concerted, strategic way to promote and protect the public's health. Focusing on diverse partnerships as the framework for public health, the book discusses: The need for a shift from an individual to a population-based approach in practice, research, policy, and community engagement. The status of the governmental public health infrastructure and what needs to be improved, including its interface with the health care delivery system. The roles nongovernment actors, such as academia, business, local communities and the media can play in creating a healthy nation. Providing an accessible analysis, this book will be important to public health policy-makers and practitioners, business and community leaders, health advocates, educators and journalists.

Book Synopsis Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care by : National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine
Download or read book Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2020-01-30 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care: Moving Upstream to Improve the Nation's Health was released in September 2019, before the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a global pandemic in March 2020. Improving social conditions remains critical to improving health outcomes, and integrating social care into health care delivery is more relevant than ever in the context of the pandemic and increased strains placed on the U.S. health care system. The report and its related products ultimately aim to help improve health and health equity, during COVID-19 and beyond. The consistent and compelling evidence on how social determinants shape health has led to a growing recognition throughout the health care sector that improving health and health equity is likely to depend â€" at least in part â€" on mitigating adverse social determinants. This recognition has been bolstered by a shift in the health care sector towards value-based payment, which incentivizes improved health outcomes for persons and populations rather than service delivery alone. The combined result of these changes has been a growing emphasis on health care systems addressing patients' social risk factors and social needs with the aim of improving health outcomes. This may involve health care systems linking individual patients with government and community social services, but important questions need to be answered about when and how health care systems should integrate social care into their practices and what kinds of infrastructure are required to facilitate such activities. Integrating Social Care into the Delivery of Health Care: Moving Upstream to Improve the Nation's Health examines the potential for integrating services addressing social needs and the social determinants of health into the delivery of health care to achieve better health outcomes. This report assesses approaches to social care integration currently being taken by health care providers and systems, and new or emerging approaches and opportunities; current roles in such integration by different disciplines and organizations, and new or emerging roles and types of providers; and current and emerging efforts to design health care systems to improve the nation's health and reduce health inequities.

Book Synopsis Administering welfare reform by : Henman, Paul
Download or read book Administering welfare reform written by Henman, Paul and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2006-03-22 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While reforms of welfare policies have been widely analysed, the reform of welfare administration has received far less attention. Using empirical case studies, this book provides significant new insights into the way welfare administration is being internationally transformed. Particular attention is given to the effect on welfare clients, staff and agencies. Administering welfare reform presents a critical analysis of governance practices in welfare administration and examines shifts in the participants, practices and processes of welfare administration. It presents original empirical case studies that highlight the effects of reforming welfare governance on welfare subjects, staff and agencies and provides a much-needed international and comparative perspective of changing welfare governance. This book is aimed at scholars and advanced students of sociology, social policy, economics, public administration and management, as well as social policy practitioners and service delivery workers.

Book Synopsis Delivering Benefits in Old Age by : Paul Dornan
Download or read book Delivering Benefits in Old Age written by Paul Dornan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-28 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although means-testing for Social Security transfers is economical, it hasn't proven to be very effective. The Minimum Income Guarantee (MIG) and the Pension Credit initiatives implemented by the Labour Government in the UK have both suffered from low levels of take up amongst entitled pensioners. This book sheds important new light on this pressing problem, examining existing research on take-up and highlighting gaps in understanding. It explores the strengths and weaknesses of the theoretical base, drawing on European theory and applying it to the UK. Socio-economic, demographic and attitudinal trends are analyzed to elucidate the impact they have had, and will have, on the proportion entitled to MIG and its take-up rate. Current policy is also analyzed to explore the importance of take-up for the Labour government and the prospects of improving it. As high take-up would be an important step in combating poverty, this book offers solutions and options to tackle these problems. It is therefore of critical interest to academics and policy makers in the UK and around the world.

Book Synopsis Delivering Effective Services Through Contact Centres by : Great Britain: National Audit Office
Download or read book Delivering Effective Services Through Contact Centres written by Great Britain: National Audit Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2006-03-15 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This NAO report examines the role and cost effectiveness of contact services for customers from the Department for Work and Pensions. During the 2004-05 period the Department spent £190 million on running contact centres. The centres themselves answered more than 33 million incoming calls, and made 7 million outgoing calls, as well as handling 300,000 e-mails, 30,000 faxes and 4 million incoming letters and application forms. The Department serves a wide range of customers, including 28 million pensioners and benefit recipients, paying out £112 billion a year in benefits and pensions. This report sets out a number of recommendations: that the Department should develop its understanding of customer demand and improve its forecasting processes; that the Department should aim to offer a seamless service, by reducing the number of telephone contact points, as well as sharing good practice techniques across such areas as forecasting and training; that contractual arrangements for staff should match the demand needs of customers, and that contact centre targets should therefore focus on customer need; that the Department should advance initiatives to improve its information on costs.
