Book Synopsis Benefit/Cost Analysis of Geothermal Technology R & D. Volume III by :
Download or read book Benefit/Cost Analysis of Geothermal Technology R & D. Volume III written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This document describes the benefit/cost relationship for 44 research and development (R and D) projects being funded by the Utilization Technology Branch (UTB) of the Division of Geothermal Energy (DGE), Department of Energy (DOE) as a part of its Energy Extraction and Conversion Technology program. The benefits were computed in terms of the savings resulting from the reduction in the cost of electricity projected to be generated at 27 hydrothermal prospects in the US between 1978 and 2000, due to technological improvements brought about by successful R and D. The costs of various projects were estimated by referring to the actual expenditures already incurred and the projected future budgets for these projects. In certain cases, the expected future expenditures had to be estimated on the basis of the work which would need to be done to carry a project to the commercialization stage.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a summary report of the results of benefit/cost analyses of 113 research and development (R & D) projects being funded by the Utilization Technology Branch (UTB) of the Division of Geothermal Energy (DGE), Department of Energy (DOE). The full analyses of each of the three technology programs are presented in separate volumes: Vol. II--Geothermal Drilling Technology; Vol. III--Energy Extraction and Conversion Technology; and Vol. IV--Geochemical and Materials Engineering. Download or read book Benefit/Cost Analysis of Geothermal Technology R & D. Volume IV written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume presents the benefit/cost analysis of 45 R and D projects sponsored by the Geochemical and Materials Engineering program of the Utilization Technology Branch, Division of Geothermal Energy, Department of Energy, as of F.Y. 1978. Benefits of the R and D projects were estimated as potential cost savings in electricity production of geothermal power plants installed in the years 1979-2000 at 27 US liquid-dominated geothermal prospects. The total cost saving was found to be from 3.9 to 8.5% making the overall benefit/cost ratio of the R and D projects fall somewhere between 18.3 and 39.8.

Download or read book Public Investments in Energy Technology written by Michael P. Gallaher and published by Edward Elgar Publishing. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Escalating energy demand may be the most important issue facing the United States and the world today. There is little disagreement that research and development (R&D) is needed to develop new energy technologies for the future; however, there is less agreement over the specific research agenda to be pursued and how that agenda is funded. This book addresses the social importance of new energy technologies, illustrates policy-relevant applications of evaluation techniques and proposes new perspectives for a US energy investment strategy. Through detailed examples related to solar, geothermal, and vehicle technologies, the authors outline the need for robust evaluation methods to document social returns to taxpayers' R&D investments. They argue that such evaluations are necessary for the public sector to make rational decisions about the allocation of its scares resources. The evaluation methods considered involve developing alternative technology and market pathways from which the benefits of government research can be measured. Researchers and graduate students, policy makers involved in energy technology, and energy R&D program managers will all find much of value in this important and timely book.
