This book was released on 2001-01-01 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In December 1996, the then CEB established a Task Group with the main objective to elaborate design guidelines for the use of FRP reinforcement in accordance with the design format of the CEB-FIP Model Code and Eurocode2. With the merger of CEB and FIP into fib in 1998, this Task Group became fib TG 9.3 FRP Reinforcement for concrete structures in Commission 9 Reinforcing and Prestressing Materials and Systems. The Task Group consists of about 60 members, representing most European universities, research institutes and industrial companies working in the field of advanced composite reinforcement for concrete structures, as well as corresponding members from Canada, Japan and USA. Meetings are held twice a year and on the research level its work is supported by the EU TMR (European Union Training and Mobility of Researchers) Network "ConFibreCrete”. The work of fib TG 9.3 is performed by five working parties (WP): Material Testing and Characterization (MT&C) Reinforced Concrete (RC) Prestressed Concrete (PC) Externally Bonded Reinforcement (EBR) Marketing and Applications (M&A) This technical report constitutes the work conducted as of to date by the EBR party. This bulletin gives detailed design guidelines on the use of FRP EBR, the practical execution and the quality control, based on the current expertise and state-of-the-art knowledge of the task group members. It is regarded as a progress report since it is not the aim of this report to cover all aspects of RC strengthening with composites. Instead, it focuses on those aspects that form the majority of the design problems. several of the topics presented are subject of ongoing research and development, and the details of some modelling approaches may be subject to future revisions. as knowledge in this field is advancing rapidly, the work of the EBR WP will continue. Inspite of this limit in scope, considerable effort has been made to present a bulletin that is today’s state-of-art in the area of strengthening of concrete structures by means of externally bonded FRP reinforcement.

Download or read book Partial Prestressing, From Theory to Practice written by M.Z. Cohn and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These volumes contain the edited documents presented at the NATO-Sponsored Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on Partial Pre8tre88ing, from Theory to Practice, held at the CEBTP Research Centre of Saint-Remy-Ies-Chevreuse, France, June 18-22, 1984. The workshop was a direct extension of the International Symposium on Nonlinearity and Continuity in Pre8tre88ed Concrete, organized by the editor at the University of Waterloo, Waterloo, Canada, July 4-6, 1983. The organization of the NATO-ARW on Partial Prestressing was prompted by the need to explain and reduce the wide dirrerences of expert oph:iipn· on the subject, which make more difficult the accep tance of partial prestressing by the profession at large. Specifically, the workshop attempted to: - produce a more unified picture of partial presetressing, by con fronting and, where possible, reconciling some conflicting American and European views on this subject; - bring theoretical advances on partial prestressing within the grasp of engineering practice; - provide the required background for developing some guidelines on the use of partial prestressing, in agreement with existing structural concrete standards. The five themes selected for the workshop agenda were: (1) Problems of Partially Prestressed Concrete (PPC). (2) Partially Prestressed Concrete Members: Static Loading. (3) PPC Members: Repeated and Dynamic Loadings. (4) Continuity in Partially Prestressed Concrete. (5) Practice of Partial Prestressing.

Book Synopsis Advanced Composites in Bridge Construction and Repair by : Yail Jimmy Kim
Download or read book Advanced Composites in Bridge Construction and Repair written by Yail Jimmy Kim and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-16 with total page 367 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Advanced composite materials for bridge structures are recognized as a promising alternative to conventional construction materials such as steel. After an introductory overview and an assessment of the characteristics of bonds between composites and quasi-brittle structures, Advanced Composites in Bridge Construction and Repair reviews the use of advanced composites in the design and construction of bridges, including damage identification and the use of large rupture strain fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. The second part of the book presents key applications of FRP composites in bridge construction and repair, including the use of all-composite superstructures for accelerated bridge construction, engineered cementitious composites for bridge decks, carbon fiber-reinforced polymer composites for cable-stayed bridges and for repair of deteriorated bridge substructures, and finally the use of FRP composites in the sustainable replacement of ageing bridge superstructures. Advanced Composites in Bridge Construction and Repair is a technical guide for engineering professionals requiring an understanding of the use of composite materials in bridge construction. Reviews key applications of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites in bridge construction and repair Summarizes key recent research in the suitability of advanced composite materials for bridge structures as an alternative to conventional construction materials

Book Synopsis The Tension Stiffening in Reinforced Concrete Beams and Slabs by : Rahimah Muhamad
Download or read book The Tension Stiffening in Reinforced Concrete Beams and Slabs written by Rahimah Muhamad and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 190 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the design of reinforced concrete members, a well accepted full interaction moment curvature approach has been used for many years. This approach is only appropriate prior to cracking and once the cracks occur, it neglects the influence of slip between the concrete and the reinforcement. Hence, the pat1ial interaction moment rotation approach, which takes into account the occurrence of these phenomena, has been used in this thesis. Subsequently, a new structural mechanics based partial interaction approach has been developed for quantifying the behaviour of flexural members under the effects of tension stiffening. This thesis is a collection of manuscripts that are either submitted or accepted for publication in internationally recognised journals. The title of Chapters 1-3 reflects the overall research objectives and each chapter takes the following format: an introduction explaining the purposes of the chapter, a list of all the manuscripts presented in the chapter and finally the presentation of each manuscript. Chapter 1 elaborates the limitations of the current moment curvature procedure and gives as a solution a newly developed approach that overcomes these limitations. This alternative solution has been discussed in broad terms, however, this thesis focuses exclusively on the tension stiffening mechanism of reinforced concrete beams and slabs using a pat1ial interaction approach. Chapter 2 discusses in detail the derivation of new generic structural mechanics solutions for quantifying the behaviour of a single and multiple cracks. In this chapter, the tension stiffening mechanism has been developed for quantifying the behaviour of cracks such as crack spacing, crack width and load to cause a crack. Later these models will be used in the next chapter for predicting the deflection of reinforced concrete beam and slabs. Chapter 3 focuses on the application of the developed generic structural mechanics models for the discrete rotation deflection of reinforced concrete beams and slabs with steel bars. This generic model is further applied to simulating the deflection of reinforced concrete with FRP reinforcing bars as it is applicable for any type of material properties especially for different ranges of reinforcement moduli, any shape of reinforcement and any type of bond stress slip characteristic.
