Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a very well-regarded and highly-rated season of live BBC TV police drama behind them in early 1962, producer David Rose and story editor John Hopkins consolidated their success with a second run of the series in 1962-1963. All the original cast were initially back, although Jeremy Kemp and Dorothy White would depart the show mid-run and, tragically, Leonard Williams unexpectedly died three months into the season. New actors would also be introduced who would stay with the show for some time - Colin Welland, Robert Keegan and Michael Forrest - as others fell by the wayside before the second run was complete, including James Cossins and Leonard Rossiter. This book tells how and why they came and went. This book series recounts the on and off-screen story of Z Cars with many of those involved: actors, writers, directors and the producer. Telling for the first time the previously untold history of the series."

With many recollections from those involved - actors, writers, directors and sole producer - this book is their story of what happened on and off set. With full synopsis of the season's episodes, many of which no longer exist, most of the shows in this series have not been seen since their initial live broadcasts. 274 illustrated A4 pages, with synopsis of Troy Kennedy Martin's initial drafts for the first episode and an unmade script from later in the season. Book Synopsis Asset Recovery Handbook by : Jean-Pierre Brun
Download or read book Asset Recovery Handbook written by Jean-Pierre Brun and published by World Bank Publications. This book was released on 2021-02-08 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Developing countries lose billions each year through bribery, misappropriation of funds, and other corrupt practices. Much of the proceeds of this corruption find 'safe haven' in the world's financial centers. These criminal flows are a drain on social services and economic development programs, contributing to the impoverishment of the world's poorest countries. Many developing countries have already sought to recover stolen assets. A number of successful high-profile cases with creative international cooperation has demonstrated that asset recovery is possible. However, it is highly complex, involving coordination and collaboration with domestic agencies and ministries in multiple jurisdictions, as well as the capacity to trace and secure assets and pursue various legal options—whether criminal confiscation, non-conviction based confiscation, civil actions, or other alternatives. This process can be overwhelming for even the most experienced practitioners. It is exceptionally difficult for those working in the context of failed states, widespread corruption, or limited resources. With this in mind, the Stolen Asset Recovery (StAR) Initiative has developed and updated this Asset Recovery Handbook: A Guide for Practitioners to assist those grappling with the strategic, organizational, investigative, and legal challenges of recovering stolen assets. A practitioner-led project, the Handbook provides common approaches to recovering stolen assets located in foreign jurisdictions, identifies the challenges that practitioners are likely to encounter, and introduces good practices. It includes examples of tools that can be used by practitioners, such as sample intelligence reports, applications for court orders, and mutual legal assistance requests. StAR—the Stolen Asset Recovery Initiative—is a partnership between the World Bank Group and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime that supports international efforts to end safe havens for corrupt funds. StAR works with developing countries and financial centers to prevent the laundering of the proceeds of corruption and to facilitate more systematic and timely return of stolen assets.

Download or read book Transfiction written by Klaus Kaindl and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2014-01-28 with total page 385 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume on Transfiction (understood as an aestheticized imagination of translatorial action) recognizes the power of fiction as a vital and pulsating academic resource, and in doing so helps expand the breadth and depth of TS. The book covers a selection of peer-reviewed papers from the 1st International Conference on Fictional Translators and Interpreters in Literature and Film (held at the University of Vienna, Austria in 2011) and links literary and cinematic works of translation fiction to state-of-the-art translation theory and practice. It presents not just a mixed bag of cutting-edge views and perspectives, but great care has been taken to turn it into a well-rounded transficcionario with a fluid dialogue among its 22 chapters. Its investigation of translatorial action in the mirror of fiction (i.e. beyond the cognitive barrier of ‘fact’) and its multiple transdisciplinary trajectories make for thought-provoking readings in TS, comparative literature, as well as foreign language and literature courses.

Book Synopsis Speaking with Vampires by : Luise White
Download or read book Speaking with Vampires written by Luise White and published by Univ of California Press. This book was released on 2023-04-28 with total page 374 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the colonial period, Africans told each other terrifying rumors that Africans who worked for white colonists captured unwary residents and took their blood. In colonial Tanganyika, for example, Africans were said to be captured by these agents of colonialism and hung upside down, their throats cut so their blood drained into huge buckets. In Kampala, the police were said to abduct Africans and keep them in pits, where their blood was sucked. Luise White presents and interprets vampire stories from East and Central Africa as a way of understanding the world as the storytellers did. Using gossip and rumor as historical sources in their own right, she assesses the place of such evidence, oral and written, in historical reconstruction. White conducted more than 130 interviews for this book and did research in Kenya, Uganda, and Zambia. In addition to presenting powerful, vivid stories that Africans told to describe colonial power, the book presents an original epistemological inquiry into the nature of historical truth and memory, and into their relationship to the writing of history.
