This book was released on 1978 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present paper presents the derivation of the Bayes equivariant estimator of the variance of a finite population for prior i.i.d. exponential random variables and quadratic loss. The forms of the Bayes equivariant estimator strongly depends on the prior distribution assumed. In a previous paper the form of the Bayes equivariant estimator was derived for normal i.i.d. random variables. This model yields a relatively simple result. The present paper is therefore devoted to the study of the form of the estimator when the prior distribution is considerably different from a normal distribution. Numerical illustrations are provided too. (Author).
Book Synopsis Bayes and Equivariant Estimators of the Variance of a Finite Population by : STANFORD UNIV CALIF DEPT OF STATISTICS.
Download or read book Bayes and Equivariant Estimators of the Variance of a Finite Population written by STANFORD UNIV CALIF DEPT OF STATISTICS. and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of estimating the variance of a finite population is studied in a Bayesian framework. On the basis of the modern theoretical approach to sampling from finite populations and the special structure of the likelihood functions Bayes estimators of the population variance are derived. The structure of equivariant estimators is analyzed and Bayes equivariant estimators in the strict and the generalized sense are derived. Posterior and prior efficiency of the estimators is discussed. (Author).
Book Synopsis Prediction Theory for Finite Populations by : Heleno Bolfarine
Download or read book Prediction Theory for Finite Populations written by Heleno Bolfarine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A large number of papers have appeared in the last twenty years on estimating and predicting characteristics of finite populations. This monograph is designed to present this modern theory in a systematic and consistent manner. The authors' approach is that of superpopulation models in which values of the population elements are considered as random variables having joint distributions. Throughout, the emphasis is on the analysis of data rather than on the design of samples. Topics covered include: optimal predictors for various superpopulation models, Bayes, minimax, and maximum likelihood predictors, classical and Bayesian prediction intervals, model robustness, and models with measurement errors. Each chapter contains numerous examples, and exercises which extend and illustrate the themes in the text. As a result, this book will be ideal for all those research workers seeking an up-to-date and well-referenced introduction to the subject.

Download or read book Theory of Point Estimation written by Erich L. Lehmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-05-02 with total page 610 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This second, much enlarged edition by Lehmann and Casella of Lehmann's classic text on point estimation maintains the outlook and general style of the first edition. All of the topics are updated, while an entirely new chapter on Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian approaches is provided, and there is much new material on simultaneous estimation. Each chapter concludes with a Notes section which contains suggestions for further study. This is a companion volume to the second edition of Lehmann's "Testing Statistical Hypotheses".

This book was released on with total page 10 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this paper exponential ratio and exponential product type estimators using two auxiliary variables are proposed for estimating unknown population variance 2 yS . Problem is extended to the case of two-phase sampling. Theoretical results are supported by an empirical study.
