Download or read book History of the U.S. Army Battle Command Training Program, 1986-2003 written by Priscilla Offenhauer and published by Defense Department. This book was released on 2007 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a description and organizational history of the Battle Command Training Program (BCTP) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The "capstone" of the U.S. Army's Combat Training Centers, BCTP uses battle simulation to train commanders and their staffs from the echelon above corps through the brigade level. Using a variety of mid- to high-intensity worldwide scenarios, the program seeks to improve battlefield command and control by providing stressful and realistic combined-arms training in a rigorous combat environment. The book describes the program's basic components and methodology, tracing their origins and how they were synthesized in BCTP. The book also traces the significant changes in the program since it became operational in late 1987, as well as its role in various U.S. military operations in the last decade and a half.

Book Synopsis Supporting Training Strategies for Brigade Combat Teams Using Future Combat Systems (FCS) Technologies by : Michael G. Shanley
Download or read book Supporting Training Strategies for Brigade Combat Teams Using Future Combat Systems (FCS) Technologies written by Michael G. Shanley and published by Rand Corporation. This book was released on 2007 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study seeks to help the Army identify options to improve its future (i.e., circa 2016) training strategies for Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) equipped with Future Combat System (FCS) technologies. Key findings are that live training will need to remain at the core of training programs for FCS units, and that adaptation to changing operational requirements will be a primary training challenge. Overall, the findings indicate that planned training enhancements can provide important improvements across a wide spectrum; however, the overall training capability achieved will likely be less than that needed to meet future training requirements. Unit time, the potential for technological advancement, and training budgets were found to be key constraints. While the study stresses greater emphasis on training manpower support in battle command training as the Army's best chance for significant near-term improvement, it concludes that longer-term improvement will depend on how closely the Army monitors and manages its enhancement programs. The process of shaping and balancing future training enhancements, for example, would benefit from better information and improved evaluative capabilities. These changes would be further enhanced by developing better metrics for the quality, quantity, and adaptability of training, by continuing to improve spiral development processes to evolve training methods and means, and by improving the visibility of financial information across training categories.
Book Synopsis Task Analyses of Military Intelligence Critical Combat Functions by : Terry P. Bartkoski
Download or read book Task Analyses of Military Intelligence Critical Combat Functions written by Terry P. Bartkoski and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This preface provides the user with necessary and relevant information concerning the development of critical combat functions (CCF): CCF 1, Conduct Intelligence Planning, CCF 2, Collect Information, CCF 3, Process Information, and CCF 4, Disseminate Intelligence, as performed by a brigade. A CCF is defined as. an integration (i.e., interelationship) among participants and tasks that represents a force multiplier with a definable outcome. Participants and organizational structure identified in this analysis are based on table of organization and equipment (TOE) 87042L1OO, dated 10/05/95. Field Manual (FM) 71-3, The Armored and Mechanized Infantry Brigade, January 1996, was used to identify special staff positions. These analyses of a brigade's performance of the CCFs which compose the Intelligence Bafflefield Operating System (BOS) are a product of the process of developing a training strategy for the brigade. The analyses describe tasks, participants, products, processes, and relationships necessary for providing intelligence to the heavy brigade commander and staff, higher and lower units, supporting units, and adjacent units."--DTIC.

Book Synopsis The COBRAS Synthetic Theater of War Exercise Trial by :
Download or read book The COBRAS Synthetic Theater of War Exercise Trial written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This report details the design and development process for the Synthetic Theater of War (STOW) exercise produced in the COBRAS III project. The exercise was to serve as the vehicle for three primary research areas: training support package and resource requirements, technology and infrastructure requirements, and potential for training value. The multiechelon training audience of the Brigade Combat Team included the brigade commander and staff, the commander and staff of one battalion task force (TF), and the line company commanders, first sergeants, fire support team leaders, and scout platoon of that TF. The STOW environment linked constructive simulation (the Brigade/Battalion Battle Simulation BBS and Modular Semi-Automated Forces ModSAF) and virtual simulation (Simulation Networking SIMNET) and reconfigurable simulators). The trial implementation in February - March 1998 involved members of TF 1-101, 3rd Brigade, and 42nd Infantry Division of the New York National Guard, along with supporting participants from the Force XXI Training Program, contracted logistics support (CLS) staffs, and the COBRAS Team. Training support was found to be manageable but resource-intensive. Technology and infrastructure findings were mixed: the systems promise exciting training opportunities, but there were many suggestions for improvement from participants. From the unit members' point of view, the exercise provided valuable training, and there was strong support for continued STOW and reconfigurable simulator development and use."--Stinet.
