Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaporation and Droplet Growth in Gaseous Media deals with the evaporation of droplets of liquid in gaseous media and the reverse process of droplet growth in a medium supersaturated with the vapor of the liquid. Thediscussion is restricted to the kinetics of evaporation and growth of droplets of pure liquids (and heat transfer to the same). Comprised of three chapters, this book first examines the quasi-stationary evaporation and growth of droplets that are motionless relative to the medium and the hydrodynamic factor is absent. The Maxwell equation, the basis of the theory of evaporation of droplets in a gaseous medium, is taken into account. The influence of the Stefan flow and the concentration change at the surface on the rate of evaporation are considered, along with the evaporation of droplets in a vessel with absorbing walls and the fall in temperature of both free evaporating droplets and supported evaporating droplets. The second chapter is devoted to the quasi-stationary evaporation of droplets in a stream of gas, that is, droplets moving relative to the medium. The last chapter focuses on non-stationary evaporation and growth of droplets that either motionless or moving relative to the medium. This monograph will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers in inorganic and structural chemistry.

Book excerpt: Bringing together experts from 15 countries, this book is based on the lectures and contributions of the NATO Advanced Study Institute on “Nanotechnological Basis for Advanced Sensors” held in Sozopol, Bulgaria, 30 May - 11 June, 2010. It gives a broad overview on this topic, and includes articles on: techniques for preparation and characterization of sensor materials; different types of nanoscaled materials for sensor applications, addressing both their structure (nanoparticles, nanocomposites, nanostructured films, etc.) and chemical nature (carbon-based, oxides, glasses, etc.); and on advanced sensors that exploit nanoscience and nanotechnology. In addition, the volume represents an interdisciplinary approach with authors coming from diverse fields such as physics, chemistry, engineering, materials science and biology. A particular strength of the book is its combination of longer papers, introducing the basic knowledge on a certain topic, and brief contributions highlighting special types of sensors and sensor materials.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This present book is concerned with analytical approaches to statement and solution of problems of non-equilibrium evaporation and condensation. From analytical solutions, one is capable to understand and represent in a transparent form the principal laws, especially in the study of a new phenomenon or a process. This is why analytical methods are always employed on the first stage of mathematical modeling. Analytical solutions are also used as test models for validation of results numerical solutions. Non-equilibrium evaporation and condensation processes play an important role in a number of fundamental and applied problems: laser methods for processing of materials, depressurization of the protection cover of nuclear propulsion units, solar radiation on a comet surface, explosive boiling of superheated liquid, thermodynamic principles of superfluid helium. Analytical relations provide an adequate description of the essence of a physical phenomenon.

It presents evaporation technology as it exists today. Although evaporation is one of the oldest unit operations, it is also an area with dramatic changes in the last quarter century. Although other methods of separation are available, evaporation remains the best process for many applications. All factors must be evaluated in order to select the best evaporator type. This book will be extremely useful in evaluating and deciding which evaporation technology will meet a particular set of requirements.

Book excerpt: Some describe Toms obsession with music as unhealthy. Growing up in the 1970s and early 80s middle England, developing his love for music and building a record collection to rival that of people twice his age, Tom becomes fascinated by the musical cultures of the day. In 1989 he turns eighteen and becomes part of his own culture, the Rave scene, selling all his beloved record collection along the way to fund his new lifestyle. After a while, he decides it is time to regain his lost collection. He makes a list, and at the top is a small list of rarities he regrets selling the most. As he follows the trails of the records he sold, each one reveals alarming information involving a close friend and a group of people he thought he had left behind. But to what extent is Tom involved?
