Book excerpt: Some years ago I had written a book directed to anyone who designs electronic and electric circuits. Engineers, technicians, teachers, students and hobbyists took a real benefit from that book. The original book is now out of print, being available only used issues. Since the book is very useful, the author decided to review the old edition, add new content and so create a new book for anyone who need a fast access to formulas, tables and calculations when designing his projects or solving a problem. The author, who has himself designed multitudes of projects and circuits during his life, publishing many books and hundreds of articles in electronics magazines and teaching electronics, has collected an assortment of all basic information necessary for calculations needed when designing new projects or solving a problem. More part of these formulas and calculations is now in the author ́s site. The site also has versions in Portuguese and in Spanish. In the site the reader will also find practical examples in projects or articles where many of the formulas shown in this book are used. When starting a project or solving a problem the main difficulty the designer or student founds is how to locate the desired information. This information is normally spread over a large number of resources, such as books, handbooks, Internet, and magazine articles. Although many of us who are experienced in electronics have in mind the principal formulas, we sometimes have trouble with the forgotten constant, multiplication factor or exponent. Finding these values is sometimes difficult depending of the circumstances, such as where you are at the time, or the amount of resources at your disposal.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wave Scattering from Statistically Rough Surfaces discusses the complications in radio physics and hydro-acoustics in relation to wave transmission under settings seen in nature. Some of the topics that are covered include radar and sonar, the effect of variations in topographic relief or ocean waves on the transmission of radio and sound waves, the reproduction of radio waves from the lower layers of the ionosphere, and the oscillations of signals within the earth-ionosphere waveguide. The book begins with some fundamental idea of wave transmission theory and the theory of random processes as used to rough surfaces and to wave fields. This discussion is followed by an analysis of the average fields of sound and electromagnetic waves. A section on spatial correlation characteristics in the approximation of small perturbations is then given. Another chapter of the text explains the Kirchhoff method. The book will provide useful information to physicists, mechanical engineer, students, and researchers in the field of acoustics.

Book excerpt: Flare Stars covers the significant progress in photoelectric, photographic, and spectral observations of flare stars. Flare star is a variable star that can undergo unpredictable dramatic increases in brightness for a few minutes believed to be due to extremely intense flares. This book is composed of 16 chapters and begins with an overview of flare stars and the hypothesis of infrared photon transformation. The succeeding chapters deal with the inverse Compton Effect, X-ray radiation and the theory of the transition radiation and its importance to the T Tauri type stars and peculiar objects. These topics are followed by analysis of the photometric and colorimetric flare data based on the fast-electron hypothesis. Other chapters consider the theory of the chromophore of flare stars and the general laws for the behavior of flare stars in stellar association and for T Tauri type stars. The remaining chapters explore the observational data that have shed light on the problems of radio emission and flare dynamics. These chapters also describe the great cosmogonic importance of stellar flares, particularly for understanding the nature and the true character of energy sources within the stars. This book will be of great value to astronomers and researchers.

Book excerpt: Plasma Electrodynamics, Volume 1: Linear Theory is a seven-chapter book that begins with a description of the general methods of describing plasma, particularly, kinetic and hydrodynamic methods. Chapter 2 discusses the linear theory of magneto-hydrodynamic waves. Chapter 3 describes the non-linear magneto-hydrodynamic waves, both simple waves and shock waves. Subsequent chapters explain the high-frequency oscillations in an unmagnetized plasma; oscillations of a plasma in a magnetic field; and interaction between charged particle beams and a plasma. The last chapter details the oscillations of a partially ionized plasma.

This Book Provides A Comprehensive Background To Understand This Deviation Of Behaviour. After Giving An Introductory Account Of Magnetism, The Book Presents A Discussion On Ferro, Antiferro, Ferri And Weak Ferromagnetism Which Belong To A Class Of Cooperative Phenomena. An Elementary Idea Of Domain Structure Which Explains The Behaviour Of Ferromagnets Has Been Included. The Fine Particles Of Magnetic Materials Have Been Classified According To Grain Size Into Single And Multidomain Particles. In An Assembly Of Fine Single Domain Particles Below A Critical Size, Any Cooperative Alignment Of Dipole Moments May Not Be Possible Because Of Thermal Agitation. As A Result, The Assembly Exhibits Magnetic Behaviour Of A Giant Paramagnetic System Above A Critical Temperature Known As Blocking Temperature. This Phenomenon Known As Superparamagnetism Has Been Presented In Detail. Magnetic Materials Comprising Of Fine Grains Can Also Carry A Faithful Record Of The Geomagnetic Field At The Time Of Cooling Of An Igneous Rock Or Deposition Of A Sedimentary Rock. This Memory Of The Past Geomagnetic Field Is Maintained Through Their Remanent Magnetization, Which Is Extremely Stable. A Detailed Experimental Study Of A Magnetic System Exhibiting Thermoremanent Magnetization (Trm) Due To Its Cooling Below The Critical Temperature In The Presence Of The Residual Magnetic Field Of The Experimental Set Up In The Laboratory Has Been Described. Different Possible Mechanisms On The Origin Of Trm In The Samples Including The Formation Of Fine Lamellae Have Been Discussed. The Last Chapter Presents An Experimental Study On Magnetic Systems Comprising Of Very Fine Magnetic Particles And Exhibiting Superparamagnetism.

Book excerpt: Plasma Astrophysics is a translation from the Russian language; the topics discussed are based on lectures given by V.N. Tsytovich at several universities. The book describes the physics of the various phenomena and their mathematical formulation connected with plasma astrophysics. This book also explains the theory of the interaction of fast particles plasma, their radiation activities, as well as the plasma behavior when exposed to a very strong magnetic field. The text describes the nature of collective plasma processes and of plasma turbulence. One author explains the method of elementary excitation which he has developed. The book also discusses the sporadic radio-emission of the sun, galactic nuclei, radio-galaxies, quasars, and pulsars. The book explains that problems involving terrestrial plasma can be split into parts; in astrophysics, the approach is different. For example, particle acceleration is determined by turbulence spectra that in turn depends on the energy distribution of the accelerated particles. The authors also give theoretical results based on many calculations analysis of observational data: Tsytovich contributes new theoretical calculations. This book can prove helpful for nuclear scientists and researchers working with plasma physics or astro-physics.
