This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 233 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume brings together works on the development of scientific and technical knowledge in Europe between the 13th and 16th centuries, with a special focus on the Iberian Peninsula. These works, which rely heavily on the evidence provided by the written record, pay particular attention to the content of recipe books and technical treatises from the 15th and 16th centuries. The volume addresses issues such as manuscript and technical recipe book analysis, archaeological investigation of production areas and archaeometric analysis, presenting a holistic and comprehensive perspective of technical knowledge during the Middle Ages. It highlights different approaches and perspectives in the analysis of medieval technical and technological knowledge, in order to arrive at equally broad and complementary conclusions.

Reports on physico-chemical characteristics of catalysts and catalytic performances are limited to correlations with the preparation parameters. - Contains a collection of the papers presented at the workshop
Download or read book Resorcinol written by S. Hahn and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2006 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Resorcinol is a white crystalline compound which is soluble in water and has a low vapour pressure. It is mostly used in the rubber industry, as well as for high-quality wood bonding applications and in the manufacture of dyestuffs, pharmaceuticals, flame retardants, agricultural chemicals, fungicidal creams and lotions, and hair dye formulations. It is released into the environment from a number of anthropogenic sources including production, processing and consumer uses, especially from hair dyes and pharmaceuticals, and localised high concentrations can appear in coal conversion wastewater or wastewater in regions with oil shale mining.

Download or read book Chloroform written by Peter Watts and published by World Health Organization. This book was released on 2004-10-08 with total page 65 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Chloroform is a clear, colourless, volatile liquid which is used in the production of refrigerants and as a fluoropolymer feedstock. It may be released into the environment from chlorodifluoromethane plants and from pulp and paper mills using chlorine-based chemicals for bleaching and disinfection purposes. Chloroform is also the principal by-product of water disinfectant processes. It is estimated that the vast majority of chloroform emissions into the environment are natural in origin. This publication, part of a series from the International Programme on Chemical Safety, evaluates the risk to human health and the environment posed by exposures to chloroform.

The goal of this text is to provide an engaging and easy to use book with an innovative and interactive media program. It achieves a unique balance in emphasizing concepts without sacrificing scientific accuracy. The new MediaTutor, found at the end of each chapter, integrates the text and media by providing a brief description of the CD or WEB activity and the time requirement for completion. In creating the book and the media package, the authors and Prentice Hall reached out to the biology community - involving educators from around the country to help address the diverse needs of todays students. How do you engage your students and help make biology relevant to them? *NEW - Chapter-opening Case Studies and chapter-ending Case Studies Revisited - Includes Did Dinosaurs Die from Lack of Sunlight? from the chapter on Photosynthesis and Teaching an Old Grain New Tricks from the chapter on Biotechnology. Provides an innovative framework for students to learn and make connections between biological concepts and processes. *Earth Watch/Health Watch essays - Covers biodiversity, ozone depletion/pre
Book Synopsis N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine by : G. Koennecker
Download or read book N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine written by G. Koennecker and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 38 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A concise assessment of the risks to human health and the environment posed by exposure to N-phenyl-1-naphthylamine, a lipophilic crystalline solid that is used as an antioxidant in various lubrication oils and as a protective agent and antioxidant in rubber and rubber mixtures for various products, including tyres. Concerning sources of human and environmental exposure, the report cites evidence that the chemical may be released to soil and surface waters from the leakage of lubrication oils or leaching from decaying tyres and rubber products. Emission to the atmosphere may arise from exhaust gases during production and processing, and during the vulcanization of rubber mixtures. Presence in the environment is expected to be low. Limited studies indicate that the chemical is distributed to soil, sediment, and water, and to a much smaller degree, to air, suspended sediment, and biota. In view of its moderate to high potential for sorption to organic soil constituents and its limited mineralization in soil, the chemical is likely to have geoaccumulation potential. Studies demonstrate high acute toxicity in fish and Daphnia.
Book Synopsis The North American Mosaic by : Commission for Environmental Cooperation (Montréal, Québec). Secretariat
Download or read book The North American Mosaic written by Commission for Environmental Cooperation (Montréal, Québec). Secretariat and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The North American Mosaic has four overarching features. First, it is, to the extent feasible, based on comparable information on the status and trends of major indicators of the state of the environment in Canada,Mexico, and the United States. Second, the report confirms that these three countries together make up an incredibly complex, dynamic, and interconnected ecosystem in which humans play a dominant and decisive role. Third, the report raises important and sometimes disquieting questions concerning the sustainability of some current trends. Finally, the report is a reminder that our economic, social, and physical well-being are utterly dependent on the life-sustaining services provided by nature. This report emphasizes the importance of developing mutually compatible economic, social, and environmental goals and policies across the three-country region.
