Book Synopsis Physics in Collision by : Per Carlson

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The field of particle physics is developing very rapidly. During this past year, physicists added a new instrument to their arsenal for the study of quark-quark, quark-lepton, and lepton lepton interactions. This machine, the PROTON-ANTIPROTON COLLIDER, achieved the highest energy in the world. With its five detectors, it is beginning to explore hitherto inaccessible regions for new physics (Section I). Lepton-Iepto~ machines with detectors at full efficiency are producing copious data of the very highest precision. The possibility of glueballs and the detailing of the properties of the upsilon family have been of major importance this year (Section II). The particle jets which are believed to be direct manifesta tions of the quark structure of matter continue to provide valuable data against which we can test the ideas of QCD (Section III). With the advent of more and better data it is now possible to study in detail the formation evolution of hadronic states. Especially interesting are the properties of heavy quark states (Section IV). A far-seeing look into the future development of any fecund scienti fic field is rarely accurate, but is always stimulating (Section V). It is against this background of participating in the clarifi cation of the Physics in Collision that we continue this series.

Book Synopsis Supersymmetry, Supergravity And Supercolliders (Tasi 1997) by : Jonathon A Bagger
Download or read book Supersymmetry, Supergravity And Supercolliders (Tasi 1997) written by Jonathon A Bagger and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1999-03-12 with total page 788 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In June 1997, fifty-seven of the world's best students gathered at TASI '97 in Boulder, Colorado, USA, to attend an intensive series of lectures on the theory and phenomenology of supersymmetry, supergravity and supercolliders. This book contains the proceedings of that school. It is aimed at advanced graduate students as well as postdoctoral and other researchers. It provides a snapshot of the state-of-the-art in an active area of high energy particle theory, and may perhaps serve as a preview of physics to be discovered in the next decade.
Book Synopsis Techniques and Concepts of High-Energy Physics II by : Thomas Ferbel

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second Advanced Study Institute (ASI) on Techniques and Concepts of High Energy Physics was held at the Roaring Brook Resort at Lake George, New York. As in the case of the first ASI, our aim was to bring together a small group of promising young ex perimenters and several outstanding senior scholars in high energy physics in order to learn about the latest trends in the field and develop stronger contacts among scientists from different countries and different backgrounds. The setting at Roaring Brook was particularly congenial and the staff, under the direction of George Green, was both friendly and efficient. The ASI was supported mainly through funds provided by the Scientific Affairs Division of NATO. It was cosponsored by the U. S. Department of Energy, Fermilab, the National Science Founda tion and the University of Rochester. A special grant from the Oliver S. and Jennie R. Donaldson Charitable Trust provided a valuable degree of flexibility for supporting worthy students. The scientific program of this ASI was, once again, designed primarily for advanced graduate students and recent Ph.D recipients in experimental particle physics. I believe, however, that the contents of the present volume will prove useful to an even wider audience of physicists.
