Book excerpt: A marriage of convenience in the Gilded Age… Newport heiress Catherine Beasley Parrish has been groomed all her life to marry an English duke. However, when she meets Adam Raveneau, the latest in a long line of Raveneau rakes and a newly created viscount, Cathy awakens to a destiny worth fighting for. Although Raveneau insists that he is not marriage material, he is in desperate need of funds to restore Tempest Hall, his crumbling family estate on Barbados. And when Cathy begs him to save her from the toad-like duke her mother intends her to marry, Adam realizes that they may be able help each other. Following a passionate honeymoon voyage on the high seas, Cathy and Adam arrive at their island home to find legends of pirate treasure and face the realities of their complicated marriage of convenience. Can two people who wed for all the wrong reasons discover that a lasting love is the greatest treasure of all? "TEMPEST is Cynthia Wright at her best, and I savored every delightful page! I was swept away by sinfully sexy Adam Raveneau, wondering how he and Cathy could ever untangle their problems, and thrilled to find myself in the midst of adventures with pirates, buried treasure, and a romantic abduction. I believe Cynthia Wright will make a lifelong fan out of every person who reads TEMPEST.”~ Lauren Royal, Bestselling Author of AMETHYST Rakes & Rebels: The Raveneau Family series: 1 - SILVER STORM (André & Devon) 2 - HER HUSBAND, THE RAKE: a sequel novella (André & Devon) 3 - SMUGGLER'S MOON (Sebastian & Julia) 4 - THE SECRET OF LOVE (Gabriel & Isabella) 5 - SURRENDER THE STARS (Ryan & Lindsay) 6 - HIS MAKE-BELIEVE BRIDE (Justin & Mouette) 7 - HIS RECKLESS BARGAIN (Nathan & Adrienne) 8 - TEMPEST (Adam & Cathy)

Book excerpt: "Chapter 1 shows that the windward slope of Barbados and its terraced morphology evolved principally by wave erosion during uplift and eustatic oscillation, rather than by biohermal growth. Chapter 2 describes the interplay of erosion and limestone deposition during eustatic oscillation over a span of 700,000 years. It represents the first comprehensive field and chronologic study to integrate marine erosion and deposition with tectonic uplift rates to determine emergence values and rates of the stratigraphic and evolutionary model. Chapter 3 describes the distributions, lithology, depositional environments, and ages of the limestone stratigraphic subunits for seven study areas in southeastern Barbados"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "I don't always design travel journals, but when I do they are the kind of travel journals that people throw parades for." - Cormac Younghusband, The World's Most Legendary Nomad THE BARBADOS TRAVEL JOURNAL has been carefully crafted by the legendary nomad Cormac Younghusband to help make your trip unforgettable, fun and organized—with plenty of room to help spur spontaneity and document new discoveries. This journal can help you plan, live out and record every stage of your journey to Barbados—from pre-trip, to getting there, to being there, to getting home, and afterwards. "Barbados food is among the world's finest. They do this thing with the thing!" - Cormac Younghusband, The World's Most Legendary Nomad The first part of the journal is for PRE-TRIP PLANNING and contains sections for important information, a page to write about what inspired you to make the trip, a page to write about the who, where, what, when, how of the journey, a page to make note of your travel companions, a number of pages to organize your travel research.* Plus, you will find sections for drafting an itinerary and keeping a journey to-do checklist. The second part of the journal deals with GETTING THERE, containing sections to describe getting there and arriving. The third part of the journal is all about BEING THERE. There are sections for: tracking the stuff you buy and for your daily adventures there are 50 two-page daily records to keep notes on: day #, date, weather, places visited, what happened today + thoughts on what happened, the highlight of the day and extensive notes (with a handy reminder list of things to write about). Because there are about 287,733 people in Barbados, there's also a section to record the names and contact info of the people you meet along the way. The fourth part of the journal is for GETTING HOME, that fateful day you depart and the days that follow. There are sections for describing your departure, for making your own top 10 highlights lists, a country radar to help you create a signature review of the country, and an afterwards where you can sum up the meaning of your trip. When a trip is over, Cormac Younghusband recommends you start planning your NEXT TRIP. To help, there is a section where you can make a travel wish list. Also included is a COUNTRY BRIEF to give you important info on the destination and a MAP to give you an idea of the lay of the land. Plus, at the back of the book there are sections for: generic packing ideas, measures and conversions, and pages for notes, sketches, maps and such "Find a place in the world you haven't been, and go there. Book excerpt: Ligon's True and Exact History of the Island of Barbados is the most significant book-length English text written about the Caribbean in the seventeenth century. [It] allows one to see the contested process behind the making of the Caribbean sugar/African slavery complex. Kupperman is one of the leading scholars of the early modern Atlantic world. . . . I cannot think of any scholar better prepared to write an Introduction that places Ligon, his text, and Barbados in an Atlantic historical context. The Introduction is quite thorough, readable, and accurate; the notes [are] exemplary! --Susan Parrish, University of Michigan

Book excerpt: Hell in Barbados is the powerful true story of a drug-addicted smuggler who found his salvation in the unlikeliest of places. Told with disarming honesty, the book propels the reader into the mind of an addict and shows us the depths of degradation one man sunk to before finding the inner strength to save himself. Terry Donaldson met with success early in life but his struggle with addiction soon became an all-out war. His Jekyll and Hyde lifestyle – TV presenter by day, whilst he scoured the streets of London in search of drugs and prostitutes by night – caused him to lose everything. Facing financial ruin, he agreed to smuggle drugs from Barbados, but was caught and sent to one of the world’s worst prisons, where he remained for over 3 years. Honest and disturbing, Hell in Barbados is the true story of how Donaldson witnessed stabbings, beatings, shootings and a full scale riot as the prison went up in flames. In this extraordinary book, he describes the true horror of prison life in the Caribbean, the depravity that brought him there, and the years of brutality he was forced to endure.

This book was released on 1666 with total page 438 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This early study of the Caribbean is an English translation of a French work published anonymously in Rotterdam in 1658 under the title Histoire naturelle et morale des iles Antilles de l'Amerique (Natural and moral history of the Antilles). The original author was Charles de Rochefort (1605-83), who identified himself in subsequent editions of the book. Not much is known about de Rochefort. The available evidence suggests he was a Protestant pastor sent to be a minister or chaplain to French-speaking Protestants in the Caribbean. He based his work on his own observations and the writings of previous authors, notably the Dominican priest Jean-Baptiste Du Terte (1610-87). De Rochefort's work is in two parts, the first dealing with the geographical features and the second with the people of the Caribbean. The islands covered are listed and briefly described in chapters 3-5 of Book I. De Rochefort was interested in indigenous peoples and languages, and the book includes a detailed chapter on the Apalachee Indians as well as a vocabulary of the Caraïbe language prepared by Raymond Breton (1609-79), a Jesuit priest sent by Cardinal Richelieu (with Du Terte) to Guadeloupe in the 1630s. The work contains a few illustrations, mainly of animals, fish, and shells.
