Book Synopsis Multinational Banks and Underdevelopment by : Maurice A. Odle
Download or read book Multinational Banks and Underdevelopment written by Maurice A. Odle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Multinational Banks and Underdevelopment is a study that relates global banking with the lack of multidimensional development in various geographical regions. The book first details the imperialist role of finance, and then proceeds to discussing the process of multinational bank penetration. The next series of chapters talks about how multinational banks are one of the major causes of unequal development, and indicates that the stopgap measures have failed to contribute anything to remedy the problem. Next, the selection discusses that a much more radical approach is needed to bring about real change. The book then details that consortium banks do not help in alleviating the problem. The book will be of great interest to economists, political scientists, sociologists, and game theorists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The role of international banks within the developed economies has come under increasingly hostile public scrutiny, yet little attention has been paid to the structure and purpose of the banks themselves. Most existing studies concentrate on the part played by international banks as intermediaries in the domestic and international economy, failing to consider the foremost concern of the banks themselves – their success as business enterprises. This book examines the practical problems faced by the Universal Multinational banks (UMNBs) in the fields of strategic planning and business development. It explains the common constraints encountered by the UMNBs, showing that, whether they like it or not, current market pressures are governing their policies in all the developed economies. Through studying the management structures and business policies of these banks this book provides a much clearer picture of their activities in the world economy. Initially, it concentrates on the UMNBs of the USA since they have provided a strategic model for other global banking concerns. The UMNBs of Japan, Britain, France, Germany, Canada and Switzerland are then discussed to establish their similarities and differences: case studies are included at the end of each chapter to illustrate and reinforce the points made in the preceding text. Although written in 1984 the author successfully predicted many of the subsequent developments in the field of information technology and competition in world markets, which led to the emergence of global financial enterprises.

Book Synopsis Domestic and Multinational Banking (RLE Banking & Finance) by : Rae Weston
Download or read book Domestic and Multinational Banking (RLE Banking & Finance) written by Rae Weston and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-01-04 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the fundamental nature of banking in the economy of the 1970s and 80s, arguing that banking cannot be properly understood unless it is regarded as the retailing of financial services. In analysing the nature of banking the book demonstrates how banking might operate without regulatory constraints; surveys the patterns of regulatory constraint in a wide range of economies; analysis the effects of these various forms of constraint on the operation of a previously unregulated bank; examines the move to multinational banking; explores risks peculiar to multinational banking, whilst providing a diagrammatic illustration of those risks. When originally published this was one of the first books to treat banking from both a theoretical and empirical perspective and is unique in reviewing the case of a completely unregulated commercial bank and following the progression of banking through to the multinational stage.

Download or read book Multinational Banks and Foreign Expansion Decisions written by Cansu Eray and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-02-03 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a systematic review of the literature on the foreign expansion decisions of multinational banks (MNBs). With today's increasing level of globalization, many banks have expanded their activities internationally to take advantage of new opportunities in different markets. As each extension strategy brings distinctive benefits and challenges, finding an optimal approach to internationalization plays a crucial role in maximizing the advantages while decreasing the drawbacks under changing conditions. After screening 141 papers, 28 articles from leading international research journals were selected according to defined criteria in order to provide a synthesized framework connecting MNBs’ decisions to enter foreign markets with the reasons and consequences. The book argues that the MNBs’ main motivations for foreign expansion are related to location and ownership factors. Based on the priorities of these motives, MNBs can choose cross-border lending, greenfield investment or acquisition as an entry mode. Since each has its own benefits and challenges, the chosen strategy has further implications for both the profitability of MNBs and the economic conditions of the host country regarding the competition level, lending pattern to small and medium enterprises (SMEs), market interest rates and financial stability. After establishing a link between the main drivers of foreign expansion, the entry mode choices, and the impacts of foreign bank presence in the host country, the book offers managers of MNBs insights into the further implications. Highlighting the gaps in literature, it also appeals to researchers looking for future areas of study.
