Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book compares the nature and practice of internationalisation of the curriculum at the policy, institutional, and classroom levels in Vietnam and Australia: the former an Asian, developing, and sending country of international students, and the latter an Anglophone, developed country, and a major education export provider. By examining curriculum internationalisation practices in these two vastly different socio-cultural contexts, the book contributes to the understanding of the magnitude and the range of differences regarding national and institutional responses to the common call for curriculum internationalisation. It addresses the impacts of the latest technological, political, economic, and sociocultural developments and COVID-19 on higher education internationalisation, as well as the digitalisation of international education. Crucially, it responds to a critical gap in the literature by not only investigating curriculum internationalisation policies and their implementation, but how faculty staff and students experience and engage with internationalisation of the curriculum in their home context, and how they position themselves and are positioned by the structural conditions with regard to curriculum internationalisation. The authors utilise document analysis, in-depth interviews, and focus groups from a four-year research project. The research employs a unique conceptual framework combining practice architectures theory and Barnett and Coate’s conceptualisation of curriculum as knowing-acting-being. Providing rich inputs for new ways of thinking and doing to enhance educational quality and the learning experiences of all students, the book is a valuable resource for researchers, academic staff, practitioners, leaders, and students in higher education and international and comparative education.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Quite simply the most serious early intermediate textbook currently available for thoughtful American students at the university level."--Professor Stephen O'Harrow, Director, Center for Southeast Asian Studies, University of Hawai'i at Manoa This is a second-year, intermediate Vietnamese language course designed for high school, college or self-study. Continuing Vietnamese is your next step toward master; it follows the best-selling, linguistically-based Elementary Vietnamese, and helps you progress to an intermediate level of communicating in Vietnamese. Invaluable for anyone planning to travel, study or work in Vietnam, this complete language course has been extensively tested at Harvard University. The accompanying native-speaker audio helps to develop listening comprehension and ensure correct pronunciation. The book contains ten lessons, each composed of two parts. Part 1, the dialogue part, introduces the learner to conversational Vietnamese as it's currently spoken in Hanoi so that the learner will be able to participate in engaging conversation on a variety of topics. Part 2, the narrative part, includes written materials that are characteristic of formal Vietnamese. It aims to develop the learner's reading and writing skills as well as speaking skills. The lessons focuse on various aspects of life in present-day Vietnam, including topics such as culture, history, geography, economy, theater, music, tourism, literature, poetry, cinema and sports. Each lesson helps you to learn Vietnamese by building your Vietnamese proficiency using several complementary elements to thoroughly develop your skills in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Key features of Continuing Vietnamese include: Online audio recordings offering native speakers' renditions of all the dialogues and narratives, vocabulary, grammar and usage explanations, everyday Vietnamese expressions, pronunciation drills and exercises, and even some popular Vietnamese proverbs. Exercises and practice activities which hone your skills throughout the learning process. Cultural notes that help bring Vietnam to life. A contemporary focus on today's Vietnamese speech patterns. A format that sharpens all four language skills: listening, speaking, writing and reading. All media content is alternatively accessible on the Tuttle Publishing website.

Book excerpt: This book provides robust insights into the current policies, trends, challenges and possibilities in the internationalisation of higher education in East and Southeast Asian countries, revealing emergent and new models and practices in this area, and discussing implications for mutual learning across different education systems. Drawing on case studies from Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, South Korea, Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and other parts of China, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand and Japan, this volume addresses emergent and less-heard perspectives on and experiences in the internationalisation of higher education. By detailing, comparing and contrasting the key aspects of internationalisation across countries in Asia and the West, it discusses the implications for mutual learning across different higher education systems. Through practical case studies, this book brings to light the voices and experiences of researchers, who are studying core and new issues, opportunities and challenges facing the internationalisation of higher education in East and Southeast Asia. East and Southeast Asian Perspectives on the Internationalisation of Higher Education is a must-read text for practitioners, international education policy makers and advisors at the national and institutional levels. It will also be of interest to academics, researchers, administrators, students of international and comparative education courses, as well as anyone researching the internationalisation of higher education or looking to learn more about what internationalisation could look like in the future.

Book excerpt: This book examines some of the major higher education reforms and policy shifts globally, particularly in the light of recent shifts in quality and standards-driven education and policy research. It critiques the neo-liberal ideological imperatives of current higher education and policy reforms, and illustrates the way that changes in the relationship between the state and higher education policy affect current trends in higher education reforms. Using diverse comparative education paradigms from critical theory to historical-comparative research, the chapters focus on globalisation, ideology and higher education reforms and examine both the reasons and outcomes of higher education reforms and policy change. The book analyses and evaluates the policy shifts in methodological approaches to globalisation and higher education reforms, and their impact on education policy and pedagogy. The book contributes in a very scholarly way, to a more holistic understanding of the nexus between globalisation, comparative education research and higher education reforms.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the thirteenth century, King-Monk Trần Nhân Tông founded the Trúc Lâm Thiền (Chan/Zen) sect. During the Golden Age in Vietnamese Buddhist history, the sect flourished under three patriarchs with renowned Thiền masters. Unfortunately, the Trúc Lâm sect faded over the following centuries, and Thiền Buddhism in Vietnam, for the most part, disappeared. In the late twentieth century, a growing new religious movement led by Thích Thanh Từ, a Pure Land monk, called for a restoration of Trúc Lâm Thiền Buddhism. Who is Thích Thanh Từ? How and why did he choose to revive this particular sect and its emancipation practices? Trúc Lâm currently boasts hundreds of monasteries and thousands of monks and nuns in Vietnam and beyond, but how have the forces of modernity influenced its original traditions? Through existing literature and extensive onsite fieldwork, this book analyzes the history and revival of a forgotten Buddhist sect and examines the movement’s reform.
