Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: He was from a world long forgotten when sorcerers and wizards began to co-exist with the growing and oppressive human populations. He was born a Prince of a powerful Druid family. He was trained as a warrior and as a sorcerer and was second in power only to his father, who unwisely attempted to form a truce and alliance with a similarly powerful rival Druid family. An act of treachery forced the Druid Prince into immortal exile, where he is reincarnated endlessly only to die a violent death as a warrior in a thousand battles in a hundred wars. He is among us now and continues to use his powers to confront evil whenever he finds it as he waits for another death at the hands of another warrior.
Book Synopsis The Great Famine & Genocide in Iran by : Mohammad Gholi Majd
Download or read book The Great Famine & Genocide in Iran written by Mohammad Gholi Majd and published by University Press of America. This book was released on 2013-07-19 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At least 8–10 million Iranians out of a population of 18–20 million died of starvation and disease during the famine of 1917–1919. The Iranian holocaust was the biggest calamity of World War I and one of the worst genocides of the 20th century, yet it remained concealed for nearly a century. The 2003 edition of this book relied primarily on US diplomatic records and memoirs of British officers who served in Iran in World War I, but in this edition these documents have been supplemented with US military records, British official sources, memoirs, diaries of notable Iranians, and a wide array of Iranian newspaper reports. In addition, the demographic data has been expanded to include newly discovered US State Department documents on Iran’s pre-1914 population. This book also includes a new chapter with a detailed military and political history of Iran in World War I. A work of enduring value, Majd provides a comprehensive account of Iran’s greatest calamity.
Download or read book War and Rape written by Nicola Henry and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-07-26 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Wartime rape has been virulent in wars of sovereignty, territory, conquest, religion, ideology and liberation, yet attention to this crime has been sporadic throughout history. Rape remains ‘unspeakable’, particularly within law. Moreover, rape has not featured prominently in post-conflict collective memory. And even when rape is ‘remembered’, it is often the subject of political controversy and heated debate. In this book, Henry asks some critical questions about the relationship between mass rape, politics and law. In what ways does law contribute to the collective memory of wartime rape? How do ‘counter-memories’ of victims compete with the denialism of wartime rape? The text specifically analyses the historical silencing of rape throughout international legal history and the potential of law to restore these silenced histories, it also examines the violence of law and the obstacles to individual and collective redemption. Tracing the prosecution of rape crimes within contemporary courts, Henry seeks to argue that politics underscores the way rape is dealt with by the international community in the aftermath of armed conflict. Providing a comprehensive overview of the politics of wartime rape and the politics of prosecuting such crimes within international humanitarian law, this text will be of great interest to scholars of gender and security, war crimes and law and society.

Download or read book Exodus Burma written by Felicity Goodall and published by The History Press. This book was released on 2011-10-31 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Until a few weeks before the fall of Rangoon, the British had not dreamt the Japanese would invade Burma. So in early 1942, British soldiers trained for desert warfare fought a Japanese Army trained and equipped for the jungle. Those who survived this fierce fighting faced malaria, air attack, and lack of food and water, on the long walk out through the Valley of Death. Ragged groups of soldiers and civilians were forced to trek out of Burma through some of the most inhospitable terrain in the world. They hacked their way through jungle, forded rivers, and climbed steep mountainsides to escape. Many did not survive the journey. Among these incredible stories was that of Bill Williams, who led refugees out on a herd of elephants. Other civilians who had enjoyed an idyllic colonial lifestyle were ill-equipped for the journey. Setting off with the family silver and their pets, they soon had to abandon all but the essentials in order to survive. Thousands died, but many more crossed the border into India and safety.
