Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "An outstanding and inspirational story that will provide its readers with hope and renew their faith in God and mankind. Lillie’s story will bring tears to your eyes and warm your heart . . . I could not put the book down." — Kenneth T. McCabe, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (Retired); Commissioner, Pennsylvania Gaming Commission Board (Retired) Former law enforcement professional Lillie Leonardi has always lived with her feet planted in two separate worlds—the metaphysical and the physical. In the Shadow of a Badge, her previously self-published spiritual memoir, takes you on a dramatic journey of what happens when Leonardi’s two very distinct realities become dangerously intertwined. During her work at the crash site of Flight 93 in Shanksville, Pennsylvania, surrounding the fateful events of September 11, 2001, Leonardi is forced to confront her connection to the divine—something she has struggled with since her youth. Her gripping personal account of the 12 days she spent acting as an FBI liaison between the law enforcement and social service agencies carries you into a world that combines the factual and logistical with the angelic and mystical. After witnessing what she describes as a "field of angels" during her first minutes at the crash site, Leonardi must finally reconcile the opposing sides of her life. We walk with her through the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorder, experience the guilt and fear that grip her, and witness the remarkable transformation of her soul as she discovers that forgiveness, of self and others, can be the best remedy. As an inspiring example of what it really means to be called to service, Leonardi shows that it’s never too late to find your spiritual path and life’s purpose.

Book excerpt: From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Sleepers and The Wolf, hailed as “simply the best” (Steve Berry) and “one of the most intriguing writers around” (Newsweek). . . . A top NYPD detective is pulled out of retirement to take down a notorious drug dealer. But will he risk the only family he’s ever had to crack the case? As one of the NYPD’s most trusted “tin badges”—retired detectives brought in to solve cases that are beyond the reach of the everyday force—Tank Rizzo has faced off against some of the city’s toughest criminals without breaking a sweat. To tackle a case involving a dangerous kingpin known as Gonzo, Tank turns to his best friend and ex-partner, Pearl; a former mobster living out a seemingly quiet retirement as the owner of Tank’s favorite Italian restaurant; and a team of expert misfits he would trust with his life. But Gonzo will stop at nothing to defend the empire he's built, and won't hesitate to make it personal. Then Tank gets a call telling him that his brother and sister-in-law, estranged from him for many years, have been killed in a horrific car accident. Tank is the only family left for his orphaned teenage nephew, Chris, although he knows his lifestyle is ill-suited to win him father of the year. Chris moves in with Tank, and the two circle each other warily. It’s only when Chris reveals an interest in true crime and a genius-level skill with computers that they begin to bond. Chris’s skills may be exactly what Tank’s team needs to take Gonzo down—but getting him involved could put his life at risk. Advance praise for Tin Badges “Carcaterra capably combines his trademark adrenaline-fueled action with the emotion involved in Tank taking on a parental role for a sometimes surly teen. All this needs, after a cliff-hanger close, is a sequel, and, fortunately, one is promised.” —Booklist “Another gem from a writer who has earned his spot at the top echelon of suspense masters . . . Everything here leaps from the page, never stinting on the harsh reality, delivering a spicy, smart, and entertaining adventure.”—Steve Berry, New York Times bestselling author of the Cotton Malone series

Book excerpt: From the Cold War through today, the U.S. has quietly assisted dozens of regimes around the world in suppressing civil unrest and securing the conditions for the smooth operation of capitalism. Casting a new light on American empire, Badges Without Borders shows, for the first time, that the very same people charged with global counterinsurgency also militarized American policing at home. In this groundbreaking exposé, Stuart Schrader shows how the United States projected imperial power overseas through police training and technical assistance—and how this effort reverberated to shape the policing of city streets at home. Examining diverse records, from recently declassified national security and intelligence materials to police textbooks and professional magazines, Schrader reveals how U.S. police leaders envisioned the beat to be as wide as the globe and worked to put everyday policing at the core of the Cold War project of counterinsurgency. A “smoking gun” book, Badges without Borders offers a new account of the War on Crime, “law and order” politics, and global counterinsurgency, revealing the connections between foreign and domestic racial control.

This book was released on 2018-10-02 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly 40 years, Jim Simone patrolled Cleveland's 2nd District, a drug-plagued area with one of the highest violent crime rates in the U.S. Nicknamed "Supercop," Simone generated headlines and public interest on a scale not seen since Eliot Ness searched for Cleveland's "Torso Murderer" in the 1930s. Simone entered police work after serving in Vietnam with the 101st Airborne, where he earned two bronze stars and two purple hearts. As a cop, he never shied from danger. He was involved in numerous gun battles, and killed five people in the line of duty (all ruled justifiable). Notoriously equitable as a cop, Simone was more interested in doing the right thing than honoring the "blue code." Badge 387 recounts the brave exploits that earned Simone hundreds of commendations. In 1983, while searching a church basement for a gunman, he was shot in the face. Despite his wounds, he managed to shoot his assailant, saving himself and two other cops. And in 2009, he plunged into a frigid river to save a woman. Simone was Cleveland's "Patrolmen of the Year" in 1980 and 2009, the only officer in the city's history to receive the award twice.

This book was released on 2018-10-23 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Balancing the Badge to Make a Difference is a holistic approach toward balancing a law enforcement career with a purpose-driven retirement. Balancing the Badge to Make a Difference is based on a relationship with God and family, and a solid financial plan. Jim's passion for creating the Balancing the Badge concept and writing this book began while working alongside peace officers and providing financial services to them. He quickly recognized the importance of Balancing the Badge to provide financial information for officers to plan for retirement and also for developing a purpose-driven retirement to keep retirees motivated, healthy, productive, and most importantly, happy in retirement. Research for this book includes more than 36 years of police experience as an officer and a manager, providing financial services to officers and the public for over 20 years, raising a family, his relationship to God, teaching financial planning and life planning for over seven years to officers and cadets, and conducting extensive interviews with law enforcement professionals regarding their life goals during their career and into retirement. The goal for this book is about transforming law enforcement personnel to embrace the concept of Balancing the Badge because a purpose-driven retirement is critical for law enforcement survival. The objective of this book is to provide the tools to cross the bridge from achieving financial wealth, to also achieving life wealth. Building a life portfolio is as important as building a financial portfolio. This is a must-read book for all officers at any stage of their career including retirees that wish to live a life worth living. This book can easily by applied to all other careers as well. Reviews include: "Jim's classes were valuable to both me and my wife as we planned for our retirement. It caused us to have realistic goals and expectations and to formulate a plan to keep everything in line with God's plan for our lives, as well as meeting our financial goals." - Eric Fagan, Houston Police Officer (retired). "Jim has an enormous heart and unyielding energy to help officers and anyone in need to live a life worth living. Jim's vast police experience and extensive financial experience coupled with his faith and charity work guide him to help others live a balanced life. This book is a must read for all law enforcement personnel at any stage of their career, including retirees. I also recommend this book to anyone searching for their purpose." - James Bollig, Houston Police Sergeant (retired) & Army Veteran. "Balancing the Badge is a great 'How To' book on achieving Financial Freedom as well as genuine freedom. Everyone wants to be successful financially, but most of us never attain it. The reason is because we either don't know how or are not willing to do what it takes. This book gives you the knowledge and the motivation. Remove the handcuffs and start living a life free from bondage. Thank you, Lt Jim, for writing this book!" - Terry Farrar, CFP. "The value of a plan integrating the priorities of career, finances, family, and spiritual well-being cannot be understated. This book provides a road map in establishing your long-term plan to achieve personal success, happiness and financial security, geared specifically to law enforcement." - Dan Murphy, Inspector, NYPD (retired).

This book was released on 2008 with total page 84 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disabled people may be missing out on special parking concessions because of where they live. This is the main finding of this report into the Blue Badge Scheme, which offers parking concessions for disabled people. It comes as the Government carries out a strategic review of the scheme. The Committee found wide differences in the way the eligibility criteria are assessed by different local authorities. It wants to see more done to promote consistent good practice across the country. The Committee's conclusions include: (1) the Committee wants to see the minimum issue period for a badge reduced from three years to one, to include those with short-term or temporary disabilities. It would also like to see "smart card" technology developed so there could be even more flexibility over the issuing of badges. (2) In cases where a blue badge holder's condition is unlikely to improve they should not usually have to undergo regular three-yearly assessments, but have their badge renewed automatically. (3) the Government should consider including central London, which currently has its own regime, in the national system. (4) eligibility for a blue badge should be based on mobility in a wider sense than simply on an applicant's ability to walk. But the Government should also look to more appropriate ways of helping people with other disabilities, such as bowel disease. (5) for those who knowingly abuse the scheme the Committee want to see tougher penalties. In particular, those who use stolen badges should have their vehicles impounded. A national database should also be established to help combat fraud. (6) the Security Industry Authority should take steps to prevent vehicles displaying a valid badge from being clamped when they are parked on private land. (7) the Committee also found that Asda was the only example given of a major national company which consistently fined people who abused its disabled bays.
