This book was released on 1953 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the initial phase of an NACA program on fatigue research, axial-load tests on 24S-T3 and 75S-T6 aluminum-alloy sheet have been made at the Batelle Memorial Institute and at the Langley Aeronautical Laboratory of the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics. The test specimens were polished and unnotched. The manufacturer of the material, the Aluminum Company of America, has made axial-load tests on 24S-T4 and 75S-T6 rod material. The test techniques used the three laboratories are described in detail; the test results are presented and are compared with each other and with results obtained on unpolished sheet by the National Bureau of Standards.

Book Synopsis Fatigue Under Random and Programed [sic] Loads by : Eugene C. Naumann
Download or read book Fatigue Under Random and Programed [sic] Loads written by Eugene C. Naumann and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted to determine which combination of method counting and type of load programing best retains the essential fatigue-inducing characteristics of a random time history of stress. In an earlier investigation several time histories were numerically generated and counted by various methods. The data obtained in the earlier investigation were used in this investigation to conduct axial load fatigue tests of 2024-T3 aluminum-alloy sheet specimens with not d edges. The fatigue life obtained from tests using the random peak history was used as a basis of comparison. The elimination of various sized fluctuations, due to the different counting methods, had little, if any, effect on fatigue life in tests using a random sequence of loads. Tests conducted by using ordered loading produced lives greater than the random fatigue life. The value of life in the ordered tests varied with the counting method, with statistical properties of the time history, and probably with the assumptions made in reducing the data to block form.
Book Synopsis Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results by : W. Weibull
Download or read book Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results written by W. Weibull and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 322 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue Testing and Analysis of Results discusses fundamental concepts of fatigue testing and results analysis. The book begins with a description of the symbols and nomenclature selected for the present book, mainly those proposed by the ASTM Committee E-9 on Fatigue. Fatigue testing methods are then discussed including routine tests, short-life and long-life tests, cumulative-damage tests, and abbreviated and accelerated tests. Separate chapters cover fatigue testing machines and equipment; instruments and measuring devices; and test pieces used in fatigue testing. The factors affecting test results are considered, including material, types of stressing, test machine, environment, and testing technique. The final two chapters cover the planning of test programs and the presentation of results. Test program planning involves the statistical design of a test series; specification and sampling of test pieces; and choice of test pieces, testing machines, and test conditions. The chief purpose of most fatigue tests is the experimental determination of the relation between the endurance and the magnitude of the applied stress range for the material and the specimen under consideration, and final results can be condensed into a table, graph, or analytical expression.

Book Synopsis Influence of Programing Techniques and of Varying Limit Load Factors on Maneuver Load Fatigue Test Results by : Patrick L. Corbin
Download or read book Influence of Programing Techniques and of Varying Limit Load Factors on Maneuver Load Fatigue Test Results written by Patrick L. Corbin and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Variable-amplitude axial-load fatigue tests were conducted on 7075-T6 aluminum-alloy edge-notched specimens having a theoretical elastic stress concentration factor of 4. The load programs were designed to approximate maneuver load spectra. Fatigue life was found to be shorter for random form tests than for block form tests having the same load spectrum. The greatest change in life occurred when the test program contained negative loads. Life for variable-amplitude tests was found to increase as much as 60 percent above the original test life after preloading with a program having a higher limit load factor. The summations of cycle ratios were approximately 2 for tests without negative loads but were approximately 1 for tests with negative loads.
Book Synopsis Local Plastic Stresses in Sheet Aluminum-alloy Specimens with Stress-concentration Factor of 2 Under Constant-amplitude Loading by : John H. Crews
Download or read book Local Plastic Stresses in Sheet Aluminum-alloy Specimens with Stress-concentration Factor of 2 Under Constant-amplitude Loading written by John H. Crews and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclic plastic stresses at notch roots in specimens under constant-amplitude repeated tension and reversed loading have been studied experimentally. The applied loads were cycled in edge-notched 2024-T3 aluminum-alloy sheet specimens, which had a stress-concentration factor of 2, until local stress conditions stabilized. Determination of local stress histories was made by recording local strain histories during cycling and reproducing these histories in simple unnotched specimens. The fatigue lives for the notched specimens were estimated from the stabilized local stresses and fatigue data for the unnotched specimens. These estimations compared favorably with fatigue-life data for the notch configuration tested. In addition, an expression for calculating local first-cycle plastic stresses is presented. An acceptable correlation is shown between predicted stresses and experimental data within the scope of the investigation.

This book was released on 1958 with total page 666 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Flight measurements of some longitudinal static stability characteristics with an overlapped-type tandem-rotor helicopter at low airspeeds are presented. The data show that a critical amount of longitudinal control is required to maintain trimmed flight at certain combinations of airspeed and rate of descent. Estimates based on theoretically predicted interference effects indicate that the front rotor downwash acting on the rear rotor could cause variation of the longitudinal moments of the same order of magnitude as the measured variation.
Book Synopsis An Experimental Investigation of Secondary Flow in an Accelerating, Rectangular Elbow with 90 Degrees of Turning by : John D. Stanitz

This book was released on 1953 with total page 684 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The passage vortex associated with secondary flows appears to be near the suction surface and away from the plane wall of the elbow at the exit and does not have appreciable spanwise motion as it moves downstream the elbow exit. As the spoiler size increases, the boundary-layer form changes and a rather sudden difference in the secondary flow occurs, perhaps associated withthe reduced importance of viscous effects in thick boundary layers. It is suggested that the strength of the secondary vortices is small and that the energy of secondary flows is small.
