Book Synopsis Automatic milking, a better understanding by : A. Meijering
Download or read book Automatic milking, a better understanding written by A. Meijering and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-28 with total page 525 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "In 2000 the book Robotic Milking, reflecting the proceedings of an International Symposium which was held in The Netherlands came out. At that time, commercial introduction of automatic milking systems was no longer obstructed by technological inadequacies. Particularly in a few west-European countries, systems were being installed at an increasing rate. However, it was recognised that the changeover from 'traditional' to automatic milking affected the farming operation, herd management and control of milk quality profoundly and that many of the implications were still unknown. So, new challenges in various fields of dairy farming and new research areas emerged. Since this previous International Symposium, much has happened. In general automatic milking has been adopted as a realistic alternative for milking in the 'traditional' milking parlour. Systems have gradually been improved and, maybe even more importantly, farmers have become more familiar with their potential and limitations, both technically and in herd management. The number of farms milking with an automatic milking system has worldwide increased to more than 2.200 by the end of 2003 . From 2000 to now, the level of scientific knowledge on various aspects and consequences of automatic milking has increased largely as well because of research efforts all over the world. A significant share of these efforts has been made within the framework of a EU-granted project on the implications of the introduction of automatic milking on dairy farms. Some seven research institutes and six industrial companies from six countries joined their expertise and experience in order to facilitate a widespread adoption of automatic milking without undesirable side effects. This book reflects the knowledge on automatic milking generated all over the world in the last few years. Its contents can therefore be regarded as the present state of knowledge in the field of automatic milking, for a better understanding."

Download or read book Milking Machines written by F. R. Lowe and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Milking Machines: A Comprehensive Guide for Farmers, Herdsmen and Students is a comprehensive guide on milking machines and covers topics ranging from milk recording and milk transport to circulation cleaning and work routines practiced on a particular farm. The components of a milking machine are also described, including the power unit, belt drive, vacuum pump, vacuum line, and the interceptor trap. Comprised of 20 chapters, this book begins with an overview of some basic facts about a milking machine, followed by a discussion on the parts and components of a milking machine such as the power unit, belt drive, vacuum pump, vacuum controller, and the pulsation system. Subsequent chapters focus on milk recording and milk transport as well as rubberware, along with automation of milking efficiency and cow throughput. The book also describes parlor layout and design before concluding with an evaluation of the ISO Standards for milking machines in the the European Economic Community. This monograph is designed to be read by farmers, herdsmen, and agricultural college students, who all have an interest either directly or indirectly in milking machines.
Book Synopsis Mechanised Livestock Feeding by : David L. Bebb
Download or read book Mechanised Livestock Feeding written by David L. Bebb and published by Blackwell Science Incorporated. This book was released on 1990 with total page 209 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the 1970s, there was a significant increase in the size of individual livestock units, prompted mostly by the necessity for greater intensification to spread overhead costs and maintain margins. This trend has increased so that the modern day farmer is compelled as never before to produce with the highest standards of efficiency. These developments have promoted an expanding market for a wide range of mechanised, semi–automatic, and fully automatic equipment for livestock feeding and effluent disposal, and the milking of dairy cows. The livestock farmer therefore is beset by a sometimes bewildering panoply of automatic and mechanised aids available to him. This book sets out not only to examine the principles involved in mechanised farming, but also to provide a practical guide for the selection of appropriate livestock equipment and the design of complete systems. The book also stresses how the livestock producer may obtain optimum performance from such equipment and so fully exploit investment. It covers a very important subject area of all agricultural courses from OND to degree levels and therefore will be of value to both undergraduate students and those already engaged in practising livestock management
Book Synopsis Precision Dairy Farming 2016 by : Claudia Kamphuis
Download or read book Precision Dairy Farming 2016 written by Claudia Kamphuis and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-09-04 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The supply of new innovative precision dairy farming technologies is steadily increasing. It aims to help farmers to be more labour efficient and to support them in their daily management decisions. At the same time, since many technologies are developed from an engineering perspective, adoption of these technologies is sometimes limited since knowledge on economic benefits and farmers' needs is often incomplete. This book covers the current status of precision dairy farming technologies and what farmers expect from them. It also includes insights and future perspectives on managing, analysing, and combining sensor information. Moreover, new innovative ideas that may better fit farmers' needs and expectation are introduced, ranging from technologies or innovations that aim at improved animal health and welfare, to those technologies that result in a more efficient use of feed and improved grazing management. This book is unique because science and engineering are combined to develop precision dairy farming technologies that are to be applied in practice. The book will serve as a stepping stone for new and innovative ideas within this rapidly growing area within dairy farming.
