Book Synopsis Standard Handbook of Industrial Automation by : Douglas M. Considine
Download or read book Standard Handbook of Industrial Automation written by Douglas M. Considine and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 472 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The authors and editors of this Handbook have attempted to fill a serious gap in the professional literature on industrial automation. Much past attention has been directed to the general concepts and philosophy of automation as a way to convince owners and managers of manufacturing facilities that automation is indeed one of the few avenues available to increase productivity and improve competitive position. Seventy-three contributors share their knowledge in this Handbook. Less attention has been given to the "What" and "How" of automation. To the extent feasible and practical within the confines of the pages allowed, this Handbook concentrates on the implementation of automation. Once the "Go" signal has been given by management, concrete details-not broad definitions and philosophical discussions-are required. To be found in this distinctly different book in the field are detailed parameters for designing and specifying equipment, the options available with an evaluation of their relative advantages and limitations, and insights for engineers and production managers on the operation and capabilities of present-generation automation system components, subsystems, and total systems. In a number of instances, the logical extension of current technology into the future is given. A total of 445 diagrams and photos and 57 tables augments detailed discussions. In addition to its use as a ready reference for technical and management personnel, the book has wide potential for training and group discussions at the college and university level and for special education programs as may be provided by consultants or by "in-house" training personnel.

Book Synopsis Machine Intelligence by : A. Gomersall
Download or read book Machine Intelligence written by A. Gomersall and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 235 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In 1981 Robotics Bibliography was published containing over 1,800 references on industrial robot research and development, culled from the scientific literature over the previous 12 years. It was felt that sensors for use with industrial robots merited a section and accordingly just over 200 papers were included. It is a sign of the increased research into sensors in production engineering that this bibliography on both the contact and non-contact forms has appeared less than three years after that first comprehensive collection of references appeared. In a reviell''; in 1975 Professor Warnecke of IPA, Stuttgart drew attention to the lack of sensors for touch and vision. Since then research workers in various companies, universities and national laboratories in the USA, the UK, Italy, Germany and Japan have concentrated on improving sensor capabilities, particularly utilising vision, artificial intelligence and pattern recognition principles. As a result many research projects are on the brink of commercial exploitation and development. This biblio graphy brings together the documentation on that research and development, highlighting the advances made in vision systems, but not neglecting the development of tactile sensors of various types. No bibliography can ever be comprehensive, but significant contributions from research workers and production engineers from the major industrialised countries over the last 12 years have been included.

Download or read book Quality Assurance in Ceramic Industries written by V. D. Frechette and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Quality Assurance in Ceramic Industries represents the proceedings of a conference held at the New York State College of Ceramics, Alfred University, June 4-7, 1978, as fifteenth in a continuing series rotated annually among Alfred University, North Carolina State University, Notre Dame University and the University of California, Berkeley. The first four chapters develop the rationale for major efforts toward an integrated quality assurance program in the ceramic plant, to effect economy in manufacture, to reduce process losses and to improve product reliability and overall profitability. Chapters 5 and 6 cover the use of traditional and advanced statistical methods. They are followed by three chapters on quality assurance in raw materials production and procurement. Chapters 9 through 20 treat specific examples of techniques, sys tems and philosophy of quality assurance in glass, whitewares, abrasives, refractories, electroceramics, structural clay pro ducts and special ceramics for nuclear applications, turbines and igniters. The three concluding chapters deal with the broadly applicable subjects of failure analysis, gaging and life time predic tion. It is a pleasure to acknowledge the generous help and encouragement of the Program Committee: Messrs. R. A. Alliegro, Norton Company; D. L. Guile and R. N. McNally, Corning Glass Works; H. W. Larisch, Coors Porcelain Company; R. H. Lester, Ohio Brass Company (now at the Lapp Insulator Division of Interpace Corporation); R. J. Ryder, Brockway Glass Company and E. A.
