Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Large format, print editons of this book, with full colour photos ilustrating the text descriptions, can be purchased at www.mybestseller.co.uk/M.Keating This is the story of our house build in Germany. This book is intended as a birds-eye view of the work, not a guide to absolutely everything involved with the process. I wrote it is to inform you, the prospective self-builder, on the work involved, in order to help you decide whether this is something you feel you could do yourself. It will not be physically possible to do absolutely everything by yourself, you will still occasionally need a helper or two and the building process may vary slightly in other countries due to availability of specific materials, but the basic procedures in the book remain valid. When we signed the contract for our building materials we were given a German book on self-building with AAC. I didn't speak German and could not find an appropriate English language book, so I decided to photo-document our entire construction process and write a book on it. Many of these photos are included in this book to aid to full comprehsion of the house build (there are no photos in the e-book).

This book was released on 2009 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This guide is intended for use by architects, engineers, contractors, building officials, and manufacturers. Its purpose is to present, in a single source, information that can help those individuals design, specify, and construct with factory-reinforced panels of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC). In this guide, introductory information on AAC is first presented, followed by a description of its manufacture, guidance on structural design using reinforced panels, and guidance on construction with such panels. The body of this guide ends with an extensive background chapter on the material characteristics of AAC, and the structural behavior and design of AAC elements.

Book Synopsis Alkali-Aggregate Reaction in Concrete by : Ian Sims
Download or read book Alkali-Aggregate Reaction in Concrete written by Ian Sims and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 1278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alkali-Aggregate Reaction in Concrete: A World Review is unique in providing authoritative and up to date expert information on the causes and effects of Alkali-Aggregate Reaction (AAR) in concrete structures worldwide. In 1992 a first edition entitled The Alkali-Silica Reaction in Concrete, edited by Professor Narayan Swamy, was published in a first attempt to cover this concrete problem from a global perspective, but the coverage was incomplete. This completely new edition offers a fully updated and more universal coverage of the world situation concerning AAR and includes a wealth of new evidence and research information that has accumulated in the intervening years. Although there are various textbooks offering readers sections that deal with AAR deterioration and damage to concrete, no other single book brings together the views of recognised international experts in the field, and the wealth of scattered research information that is available. It provides a ‘state of the art’ review and deals authoritatively with the mechanisms of AAR, its diagnosis and how to treat concrete affected by AAR. It is illustrated by numerous actual examples from around the world, and comprises specialist contributions provided by senior engineers and scientists from many parts of the world. The book is divided into two distinct but complementary parts. The first five chapters deal with the most recent findings concerning the mechanisms involved in the reaction, methods concerning its diagnosis, testing and evaluation, together with an appraisal of current methods used in its avoidance and in the remediation of affected concrete structures. The second part is divided into eleven chapters covering each region of the world in turn. These chapters have been written by experts with specialist knowledge of AAR in the countries involved and include an authoritative appraisal of the problem and its solution as it affects concrete structures in the region. Such an authoritative compilation of information on AAR has not been attempted previously on this scale and this work is therefore an essential source for practising and research civil engineers, consultant engineers and materials scientists, as well as aggregate and cement producers, designers and concrete suppliers, especially regarding projects outside their own region.
Book Synopsis Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) by : Moore Ellie (Elham)
Download or read book Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) written by Moore Ellie (Elham) and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-01 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a multi-disciplinary research on a number of material and structural characteristics of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete or AAC. AAC is claimed to have favorable construction, structural and environmental qualities, with great potential to becoming a more commonly used building material; it is light weight, non-combustible, resource efficient, and has acoustic isolating and thermal insulating properties. These characteristics affect different aspects of a construction project, in terms of cost, workability, time, carbon footprint and more. The purpose of this research is to study AAC as a building material to potentially substitute wood or conventional CMU for low-rise residential buildings in Southern California. The book concludes that AAC possesses desirable characteristics, such as light weigh, and higher R-value in comparison with other building materials, and some undesirable characteristics, such as lower shear strength in comparison to conventional reinforced CMU. Taking into account the findings of this book, AAC has unique qualities and potentials worth considering, depending on the requirements of any particular project.

Book Synopsis Eco-efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks by : Fernando Pacheco-Torgal
Download or read book Eco-efficient Masonry Bricks and Blocks written by Fernando Pacheco-Torgal and published by Woodhead Publishing. This book was released on 2014-11-27 with total page 548 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masonry walls constitute the interface between the building’s interior and the outdoor environment. Masonry walls are traditionally composed of fired-clay bricks (solid or perforated) or blocks (concrete or earth-based), but in the past (and even in the present) they were often associated as needing an extra special thermal and acoustical insulation layer. However, over more recent years investigations on thermal and acoustical features has led to the development of new improved bricks and blocks that no longer need these insulation layers. Traditional masonry units (fired-clay bricks, concrete or earth-based blocks) that don’t offer improved performance in terms of thermal and acoustical insulation are a symbol of a low-technology past, that are far removed from the demands of sustainable construction. This book provides an up-to-date state-of-the-art review on the eco-efficiency of masonry units, particular emphasis is placed on the design, properties, performance, durability and LCA of these materials. Since masonry units are also an excellent way to reuse bulk industrial waste the book will be important in the context of the Revised Waste Framework Directive 2008/98/EC which states that the minimum reuse and recycling targets for construction and demolition waste (CDW) should be at least 70% by 2020. On the 9th of March 2011 the European Union approved the Regulation (EU) 305/2011, known as the Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and it will be enforced after the 1st of July 2013. The future commercialization of construction materials in Europe makes their environmental assessment mandatory meaning that more information related to the environmental performance of building materials is much needed. Provides an authoritative guide to the eco-efficiency of masonry units Examines the reuse of waste materials Covers a range of materials including, clay, cement, earth and pumice
