Book Synopsis The Authoring Problem by : Charlie Hargood
Download or read book The Authoring Problem written by Charlie Hargood and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-01-01 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Authoring, its tools, processes, and design challenges are key issues for the Interactive Digital Narrative (IDN) research community. The complexity of IDN authoring, often involving stories co-created by procedures and user interaction, creates confusion for tool developers and raises barriers for new authors. This book examines these issues from both the tool designer and the author’s perspective, discusses the poetics of IDN and how that can be used to design authoring tools, explores diverse forms of IDN and their demands, and investigates the challenges around conducting research on IDN authoring. To address these challenges, the chapter authors incorporate a range of interdisciplinary perspectives on ‘The Authoring Problem’ in IDN. While existing texts provide ‘how-to’ guidance for authors, this book is a primer for research and practice-based investigations into the authoring problem, collecting the latest thoughts about this area from key researchers and practitioners.

Book Synopsis Hypermedia Systems and Applications by : Jennifer A. Lennon
Download or read book Hypermedia Systems and Applications written by Jennifer A. Lennon and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a pleasure and an honor to write a foreword for Jennifer Lennon's book Hypermedia Systems and Applications: World Wide Web and Beyond. I am fortunate to have been able to follow the development of this book from an excellent Ph.D. thesis to what I would consider one of the best and most comprehensive books in the area. It has a good chance to become a must for teachers, researchers, and practitioners. For the sake ofthis foreword let us combine the phenomena hypermedia, the Internet, and the WWW by just calling them the Web. Well, this Web surely has become one of the "super hot topics", from both a scholarly and a commercial point ofview! We have a saying that the Web is like a dog: one year's development of the Web corresponds to seven human years. You will be familiar with Murphy's law: "Anything that can go wrong will go wrong", and with a plethora of derivatives or specializations thereof like: "If you are in an otherwise empty locker room, the only other person there is bound to have a locker just on top ofyours"; or: "If traffic is moving slowly, you are always going to be in the slowest moving lane", and so on. Well, I have coined a version that applies to the Web: "Whenever you have understood an important new development concerning the Web you can be sure that it is obsolete".

Book Synopsis Applications of Artificial Intelligence by :
Download or read book Applications of Artificial Intelligence written by and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1998-10-08 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since its first volume in 1960, Advances in Computers has presented detailed coverage of innovations in hardware and software and in computer theory, design, and applications. It has also provided contributors with a medium in which they can examine their subjects in greater depth and breadth than that allowed by standard journal articles. As a result, many articles have become standard references that continue to be of significant, lasting value despite the rapid growth taking place in the field.Volume 47 contains seven chapters. The first four cover artificial intelligence, which is the use of technology to perform tasks generally assumed to require human thinking. These chapters present natural language processing, visualization, and self-replication as machine implementations of human activities. The remaining three chapters cover other recent advances that are important to the information processing field.
