Download or read book The History of the German Public Accounting Profession written by Hugh B. Markus and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-12-12 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First Published in 1997. Accountants in the English-speaking world have accorded the development of the Anglo-American accounting profession a great deal of attention. Perhaps only in the Netherlands has a like interest in the history of the public accounting profession manifested itself, although even there without the same degree of preoccupation as in the English-speaking world. Hugh Brian Markus’s History of the German Public Account-ing Profession, accordingly, is a particularly welcome addition to the accounting history literature. In the original German, it marked new attention to the history of the German public accounting profession; and in the English translation offered here, it provides English- speaking audiences with an insight into the development of a public accounting profession different from their own.

Download or read book Audit Quality written by Jonas Tritschler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arising from the author’s experience as a practicing CPA, this book is quite different from other research in this field, as it confronts the subject of audit quality from a pragmatic perspective. The first goal of Jonas Tritschler is to develop an audit quality metric on national audit firm level. Financial reporting errors, as detected by the German enforcement institutions during examinations, which subsequently are published in the German Federal Gazette by the involved companies, are the data basis for this measurement. Using the developed audit quality metric, the second goal of this study is to analyze audit quality differences of selected audit firms by comparing their deployed audit input factors such as employee’s competence (ratio of certified professionals to total audit staff), experience of employees (average tenure of employees in years) and client-specific experience (client fluctuation rate). Results indicate a correlation between audit quality according to the developed metric and the operationalized audit input factors mentioned above.
Book Synopsis Organizing Control by : Jeffrey Fear
Download or read book Organizing Control written by Jeffrey Fear and published by Harvard University Press. This book was released on 2009-07-01 with total page 976 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a pioneering work, Jeffrey Fear overturns the dominant understanding of German management as “backward” relative to the U.S. and uncovers an autonomous and sophisticated German managerial tradition. Beginning with founder August Thyssen—the Andrew Carnegie of Germany—Fear traces the evolution of management inside the Thyssen-Konzern and the Vereinigte Stahlwerke (United Steel Works) between 1871 and 1934. Fear focuses on the organization and internal dynamics of the company. He demonstrates that initiatives often flowed from middle managers, rather than from the top down. Shattering stereotypes of the overly bureaucratic and rigid German firm, Fear portrays a decentralized and flexible system that underscores the dynamic and entrepreneurial nature of German business. He fundamentally revises the scholarship on Alexander Gerschenkron and Germany’s Sonderweg, and critiques Max Weber’s concept of the corporation and capital accounting. He develops a loosely coupled relationship among enterprise strategy, organization, the structure of responsibility, and its accounting system, which links information, knowledge, and power inside the firm. This method of organizing control is central to understanding corporate governance. Original and provocative, this work will generate much debate among historians, organizational theorists, and management and accounting scholars.

This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper provides assessment of the current state of the implementation of the Basel Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision in Germany. Since the last Financial Sector Assessment Program (FSAP), German banking supervision has undergone profound changes, with approval of the Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) and Directive (CRD IV), establishment of the European Banking Authority, and creation of the Single Supervisory Mechanism. The last FSAP (2011) found banking system supervision to be generally sound with some areas in need of improvement—although some of these issues have been addressed, others remain. While supervisory landscape in Germany evolves, it is crucial that supervisors communicate their expectations to banks and develop guidelines and regulations that can be used to substantiate enforceable measures.

Book Synopsis Two Centuries of Local Autonomy by : Jürgen Backhaus
Download or read book Two Centuries of Local Autonomy written by Jürgen Backhaus and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-02-02 with total page 121 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: One of the last Prussian Reforms during the Napoleonic Era was the constitution of local autonomy for the cities. Proof of its lasting importance is that it was the cities that carried out the deficit-based employment policies of the early 1930s also had to carry the burden of a democratic reconstitution of Germany in the postwar period. After the crushing defeat at Napoleon’s hands, likewise the reconstitution of Prussia fell to the cities. Today, the same constellation of problems can be found on different stages. Europe, as it is growing together, faces a democracy deficit which ultimately will have to be addressed by the cities. The countries in transition and undergoing transformation likewise will have to find arenas for democratic decision making, which likely will be at the municipal level. Finally, the United States of America also faces a quagmire at the federal level which ultimately will have to be resolved at the state or local level. Contributions to this book examine all of these issues, making it of interest to students in urban studies, public administration, history and political science as well as policy-makers concerned with local government and autonomy.
