Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first version of this atlas was released as video-assisted major pulmonary resections were just emerging as a valid alternative to conventional techniques. In this second edition, many different techniques have been described, depending on the use or non-use of an accessory mini-thoracotomy and on the use or non-use of endoscopic instrumentation and video display. One of these techniques is the totally endoscopic approach, in which only endoscopic instruments and monitor control are used. This is the technique that will be described in this atlas. The purpose of this atlas is to describe each endoscopic pulmonary lobectomy and segmentectomy step by step, relying on brief technical notes and high-quality still pictures which are orientated and labeled to make them as comprehensible as possible. Each chapter is introduced by an anatomical background which is illustrated by three-dimensional reconstructions. Technical «tricks» and specific dangers are mentioned by pictograms. The technical descriptions of this atlas are based on the author’s technique, which can be different from other video-assisted approaches. Our intent is that surgeons embarking in video-assisted major pulmonary resections-whatever the approach they use-can find helpful hints and take their bearings in this totally new vision of pulmonary and mediastinal anatomy.Compared to the previous version, all chapters have been rewritten, taking into account the progresses of the technique and the technology and some new chapters have been added. Most steps of the procedures are now illustrated, not only with pictures, but also with a video clip.

The Atlas of Robotic Thoracic Surgery is illustrated with high quality illustrations and color photographs from surgical operations and contains expert analysis from leading surgeons who provide the key visual features of their chosen topics. Anesthetic and cardiopulmonary support preparation for each operation are included and selected references are provided to emphasize evidence-based outcomes. This book has been designed to augment Atlas of Robotic Cardiac Surgery edited by Ranny Chitwood, both being developed from these same concepts of simplicity and practical instruction. It will therefore be an important resource for all involved in thoracic robotic surgery or interested in learning more about the techniques involved.

Book excerpt: Atlas of Thoracoscopic Anatomical Pulmonary Subsegmentectomy provides an in-depth and comprehensive overview and guidance on anatomical pulmonary subsegmentectomy, from both theoretical and technical perspectives. The book is divided in two parts: Part I is dedicated to theoretical background of surgery, including surgical subsegmental anatomy, CT three-dimensional reconstruction of pulmonary structures, surgical techniques, and perioperative patient management. Part II presents more than 40 kinds of subsegmentectomies of the left and right lungs, both upper and lower lobes. As the rapid development of three-dimensional computed tomographic images has made it possible to provide more refined individualized anatomic details, and has consequently enabled advances in pulmonary subsegmentectomy, this book is a valuable resource to thoracic surgeons and physicians interested in thoracic surgery and mini-invasive surgical approaches in the thorax. Features complete coverage of all aspects of thoracoscopic anatomical pulmonary subsegmentectomy, from theory to practice Presents more than 40 kinds of subsegmentectomies of the left and right lungs, both upper and lower lobes Includes videos of 3D models and operations
