Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive resource of the most recent findings on the pathogenesis and pathology in the Fischer rat. Each chapter, adequately illustrated with light and electron photomicrographs, deals with a specific organ system. It includes a summary of the spontaneous neoplasms found in over 5,000 untreated control animals as well as a detailed, step by step necropsy procedure completely illustrated by photographs. It refers to a listing of common and rare tumors associated with the administration of various environmental agents obtained from over 200 carcinogenesis bioassays of the National Cancer Institute and National Toxicology Program. This work also reveals detailed information on spontaneous occurrence and the induction of neoplasms. Scientists involved in the evaluation of toxicological and carcinogenesis bioassays and investigators conducting basic and applied carcinogenesis research will find this atlas indispensable.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text provides a complete account of this particular rat strain. The book includes extensive data on reproductive indices, congenital abnormalities, growth, clinical signs, mortality, organ weights and chemical pathology. The data are derived from around 9000 control animals used in toxicology studies of two weeks to two years duration, completed between 1960 and 1992, and include 24 two-year studies and one life-span study of a 51 month duration. These extended periods of study have shown that many diseases are seen more frequently in later years.; Diseases are dealt with by body system and include clinical signs, macroscopic features and histopathology illustrations of the important or unusual diseases. Incidence levels are provided for all diseases and these are compared with published data for other rat strains.

Book excerpt: This reference series will provide all researchers using laboratory animals with comprehensive practical information on the various species. Each title in the series is devoted to a particular species, and draws together all available data in a "one-stop", easily accessible source. Each has similar format, with sections on the strains available, their husbandry, and special diets. Also included are sections on gross anatomy, endocrinology, and reproduction, followed by more detailed sections on neuroanatomy, vasculature, cell biology, and histology of particular organs and structures, and a section on molecular biology. High quality illustrations are included throughout and a color plate section is provided. A glossary, list of equipment suppliers, and "Quick Reference Section" are added features. The "Quick Reference Section" brings together all tables from the text, allowing readers to find data swiftly. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work covers effectively all aspects of drug-induced pathology that may be encountered within preclinical toxicity studies. It fills a gap in the pathology literature relating to the preclinical safety assessment of new medicines. It systematically describes, in one volume, both spontaneous and drug induced pathology on an organ by organ basis. Information relevant to understanding the nature of pathological changes in pre-clinical studies and assessment of their relevance to the clinical investigation of new drugs is also covered. Numerous colour photographs are included that highlight and embellish the histopathological features that are described. It also contains many pertinent references to both human and animal pathology forming an essential basis for the assessment of drug-induced pathology.NEW TO THE THIRD EDITION:* Covers drug induced pathology in preclinical (animal) studies and their relevance for patients or volunteers in clinical studies* General comments to each chapter about the relevance of pathological findings to humans* Provides essential information that can help decide the relevance of particular lesions for patients

The first edition was a critical and commercial success and this revision builds on that reputation. The editors have brought together the world’s leading experts to fully explore the latest scientific breakthroughs in carcinogenesis, immunotherapy, potential vaccination strategies, and gene therapy. The clinical aspects of the book are equally strong, with thorough discussion of epidemiology, etiology, different clinical presentations, imaging (including interventional pulmonology), treatment of benign disease, strategies for multimodality treatment of malignant disease. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Approximately 10 years have elapsed since the first volume of the International Life Sciences Institute (ILSI) Monographs on Pathology of Laboratory Animals, Endocrine System was completed. New information of interest to pathologists has developed at a rather remarkable pace during the intervening years. Exceptional progress has been made in the routine identification of cell products in endo crine cells. A better understanding has developed of the mechanisms involved in cell metabolism, particularly involving toxins and car cinogens. Clear concepts have developed concerning the significance of some pathologic lesions in the endocrine system and their relation to human health and risk assessment. Standardized nomenclature has developed significantly during the 1O-year period since the first volume and is being utilized on an international basis. This has resulted in significant improvement in communication of pathologic data to regulatory agencies and in scientific publications worldwide. This monograph series and others sponsored by ILSI have produced a significant effect on improved communications and the international acceptance of standardized nomenclature. In this second edition, new formats have been used where more appropriate for the subjects to be covered. In many cases, the format used in the first edition still is useful. It is still necessary to recognize the morphologic features of pathologic lesions in order to identify them precisely, an essential step toward development of new insights into pathogenetic mechanisms and their use in decisions eventually applicable to public health.
