Book excerpt: Excerpt from Reference Handbook of the Diseases of Children: For Students and Physicians The translation follows faithfully the original text, only such changes having been made as were necessary for greater clearness of expression or for the differences in practice pursued in our own country. Wherever these changes or additions have departed from the spirit of the original text they have been indicated by bracketing as editorial notes. Under the headings of treatment it has been the editor's aim to present the author's practice substantially without change, so as to make the work a complete epitome of pediatric therapeutics as at present in vogue in Vienna, which, as a medical center, stands in the front rank of the German schools. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Practical Treatise on the Diseases of Children Apart from these changes, however, no alteration has been made in the general plan of the work. As in the composition of the previous editions, the best and most recent foreign and domestic authorities on the diseases of children have been frequently and carefully consulted, and their views fully quoted whenever they appeared of practical importance. For the most part, however, the Opinions expressed in the following pages are those to which the authors have been led by their personal observation, and which they therefore believe to have been approved by the most searching of all tests, that of practical application. Book Synopsis Manual of Diseases of Children (Classic Reprint) by : James Burnet
Download or read book Manual of Diseases of Children (Classic Reprint) written by James Burnet and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Manual of Diseases of Children This small work was originally undertaken to supply what was felt to be a want in medical literature. It was intended as an introduction to the study of chil dren's diseases. For various reasons the issue of a new edition has been greatly delayed. It was under consideration, in fact, when the war broke out, but it was then thought better to defer the publication. In this edition there are many changes, especially in the earlier chapters, and, it is hoped, improvements. The entire text, however, has been thoroughly revised. Dogmatic statements have been for the most part eliminated, not because the author has changed his views, but rather because such statements are apt to be unkindly received by those who have not made a special study of the conditions to which they refer. As a matter of fact, in connection with children's diseases, as with adult affections, statements are handed on from author to author without any attempt being made to verify or refute them by personal ob servation and investigation. There are many diseases of infants and children which remain obscure simply because little or no attempt has been made to examine them thoroughly.
