Book excerpt: • Updated edition of a best-selling title • Author brings 25 years experience to the work • Addresses the key issues of economy and environment Marine pipelines for the transportation of oil and gas have become a safe and reliable way to exploit the valuable resources below the world's seas and oceans. The design of these pipelines is a relatively new technology and continues to evolve in its quest to reduce costs and minimise the effect on the environment. With over 25years experience, Professor Yong Bai has been able to assimilate the essence of the applied mechanics aspects of offshore pipeline system design in a form of value to students and designers alike. It represents an excellent source of up to date practices and knowledge to help equip those who wish to be part of the exciting future of this industry.
Book Synopsis Offshore Risk Assessment by : Jan-Erik Vinnem
Download or read book Offshore Risk Assessment written by Jan-Erik Vinnem and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore Risk Assessment is the first book to deal with quantified risk assessment (QRA) as applied specifically to offshore installations and operations. Risk assessment techniques have been used for some years in the offshore oil and gas industry, and their use is set to expand increasingly as the industry moves into new areas and faces new challenges in older regions. The book starts with a thorough discussion of risk analysis methodology. Subsequent chapters are devoted to analytical approaches to escalation, escape, evacuation and rescue analysis of safety and emergency systems. Separate chapters analyze the main hazards of offshore structures: Fire, explosion, collision and falling objects. Risk mitigation and control are then discussed, followed by an outline of an alternative approach to risk modelling that focuses especially on the risk of short-duration activities. Not only does the book describe the state of the art of QRA, it also identifies weaknesses and areas that need development. Readership: Besides being a comprehensive reference for academics and students of marine/offshore risk assessment and management, the book should also be owned by professionals in the industry, contractors, suppliers, consultants and regulatory authorities.
Book Synopsis Mechanics of Offshore Pipelines by : Stelios Kyriakides
Download or read book Mechanics of Offshore Pipelines written by Stelios Kyriakides and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2007-07-26 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Offshore oil and gas production was conducted throughout the entire 20th century, but the industry's modern importance and vibrancy did not start until the early 1970s, when the North Sea became a major producer. Since then, the expansion of the offshore oil industry has been continuous and rapid. Pipelines, and more generally long tubular structures, are major oil and gas industry tools used in exploration, drilling, production, and transmission. Installing and operating tubular structures in deep waters places unique demands on them. Technical challenges within the field have spawned significant research and development efforts in a broad range of areas.Volume I addresses problems of buckling and collapse of long inelastic cylinders under various loads encountered in the offshore arena. Several of the solutions are also directly applicable to land pipelines. The approach of Mechanics of Offshore Pipelines is problem oriented. The background of each problem and scenario are first outlined and each discussion finishes with design recommendations.* New and classical problems addressed - investigated through a combination of experiments and analysis* Each chapter deals with a specific mechanical problem that is analyzed independently* The fundamental nature of the problems makes them also applicable to other fields, including tubular components in nuclear reactors and power plants, aerospace structures, automotive and civil engineering structures, naval vehicles and structures
Book Synopsis Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture by : Andrea Carpinteri
Download or read book Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture written by Andrea Carpinteri and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2003-03-19 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The European Structural Integrity Society (ESIS) Technical Commitee on Fatigue of Engineering Materials and Structures (TC3) decided to compile a Special Technical Publication (ESIS STP) based on the 115 papers presented at the 6th International Conference on Biaxial/Multiaxial Fatigue and Fracture. The 25 papers included in the STP have been extended and revised by the authors. The conference was held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 25-28 June 2001, and was chaired by Manual De Freitas, Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. The meeting, organised by the Instituto Superior Tecnico and sponsored by the Portuguese Minesterio da Cienca e da Tecnologia and by the European Structural Integrity Society, was attended by 151 delegates from 20 countries. The papers in the present book deal with the theoretical, numerical and experimental aspects of the Multiaxial fatigue and fracture of engineering materials and structures. They are divided in to the following six sections; Multiaxial Fatigue of Welded Structures; High cycle Multiaxial fatigue; Non proportional and Variable-Amplitude loading; Defects, Notches, Crack Growth; Low Cycle Multiaxial Fatigue; Applications and Testing Methods. As is well-known, most engineering components and structures in the mechanical, aerospace, power generation, and other industries are subjected to multiaxial loading during their service life. One of the most difficult tasks in design against fatigue and fracture is to translate the information gathered from uniaxial fatigue and fracture tests on engineering materials into applications involving complex states of cyclic stress-strain conditions. This book is the result of co-operation between many researchers from different laboratories, universities and industries in a number of countries.

Book Synopsis Dynamics of Fixed Marine Structures by : N. D. P. Barltrop
Download or read book Dynamics of Fixed Marine Structures written by N. D. P. Barltrop and published by Butterworth-Heinemann. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 785 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamics of Fixed Marine Structures, Third Edition proves guidance on the dynamic design of fixed structures subject to wave and current action. The text is an update of the ""UR8"" design guide ""Dynamics of Marine Structures"" with discussion of foundations, wind turbulence, offshore installations, earthquakes, and strength and fatigue. The book employs analytical methods of static and dynamic structural analysis techniques, particularly the statistical and spectral methods when applied to loading and in the calculating dynamic responses. The statistical methods are explained when used to wave, wind, and earthquake calculations, together with the problems encountered in actual applications. Of importance to fixed offshore platforms are the soil properties and foundation covering soil behavior, site investigation, testing, seabed stability, gravity structures, and the use of single piles. Methods of forecasting, measuring, and modeling of waves and currents are also presented in offshore structure construction. Basic hydrodynamics is explained in understanding wave theory, and some description is given to forecasting of environmental conditions that will affect the structures. The effects of vortex-induced vibrations on the structure are explained, and the three methods that can prevent vortex-induced oscillations are given. Wind turbulence or wind loads are analyzed against short natural period or long natural periods of structures. The transportation of offshore platforms, installation, and pile driving, including examples of the applications found in the book, are given as well. The guide is helpful for offshore engineers, designers of inshore jetties, clients needing design and analysis work, specialists related to offshore structural engineering, and students in offshore engineering.
