Book Synopsis Perimetry Update 1998/1999 by : Michael Wall
Download or read book Perimetry Update 1998/1999 written by Michael Wall and published by Kugler Publications. This book was released on 1999 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topics presented at the XIIIth Symposium embraced all aspects of perimetric science. A total of ten sessions were held and covered: fundamentals of perimetry, visual psychophysics, new perimetric techniques, new algorithms for estimating threshold, perimetric variability, color perimetry, optic nerve head imaging, and visual field investigation in glaucoma and in retinal and neurological disorders. The new perimetric techniques included frequency doubling technology, flicker perimetry and pupil perimetry. The new algorithms included the Swedish Interactive Threshold Algorithm (SITA) and Tendency Orientated Perimetry (TOP). The session on perimetric variability addressed some of the issues contributing to short-term fluctuation, and also contained papers on the use of univariate linear regression of point-wise sensitivity against time to follow-up for the identification of progressive visual field loss. The session on color perimetry was almost exclusively concerned with Short Wavelength Automated Perimetry (SWAP), particularly in glaucoma and high risk ocular hypertension. However, one group described a seemingly promising additional use for SWAP; namely, in the detection of diabetic macular edema. The presentations within the imaging session described the latest morphometric and topographic parameters derived by optic nerve head and nerve fiber layer analysis, and compared these structural measures with those of the functional assessment.

Book Synopsis Minimally Invasive Vitreous Surgery: 20 Gauge to 27 Gauge by : Shalabh Sinha
Download or read book Minimally Invasive Vitreous Surgery: 20 Gauge to 27 Gauge written by Shalabh Sinha and published by JP Medical Ltd. This book was released on 2013-05-30 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The vitreous humour is a clear gel positioned behind the iris (coloured part) and the lens, and in front of the retina (back of the eye). Vitrectomy is the surgical removal of the vitreous humour, a procedure needed to allow ophthalmic surgeons to diagnose and treat underlying disease in the eye. Small gauge minimally invasive vitreous surgery (MIVS) allows ophthalmic surgeons to make smaller incisions, reducing the need for sutures and therefore increasing the speed of recovery. This practical book presents ophthalmic surgeons with the most recent advances in MIVS, with emphasis on the differences between gauge sizes. Beginning with an introduction to the technique and anaesthesia, the following chapters discuss MIVS for different disorders. More than 190 full colour images and illustrations, and a DVD demonstrating MIVS procedures help retinal surgeons learn how to minimalise surgical trauma by reducing the gauge size of vitrectomy instruments. Key points Presents ophthalmic surgeons with most recent advances in minimally invasive vitreous surgery Emphasis on differences between gauge sizes Includes DVD demonstrating surgical procedures Comprehensive text enhanced by more than 190 colour images and illustrations

Book Synopsis Visual Prosthesis by : Jeffrey N. Weiss
Download or read book Visual Prosthesis written by Jeffrey N. Weiss and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-22 with total page 125 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the millions of people with untreatable blindness the thought of a visual prosthesis that would allow them to live a normal life has always been a distant hope. There have been intermittent bright spots that periodically fan that hope such as when Dr. Dobelle’s visual prosthesis patient drove a car in an empty parking lot. This book will serve as an update of the work in developing a visual prosthesis. Chapters discuss the physiologic and engineering issues, alternative strategies, and patents, as well as recent research studies. Visual Prosthesis - A Concise Guide is a must-have resource for ophthalmologists, neurologists, engineers and physicists.
Book Synopsis Eye Movements and Their Role in Visual and Cognitive Processes by : Eileen Kowler
Download or read book Eye Movements and Their Role in Visual and Cognitive Processes written by Eileen Kowler and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1990 with total page 516 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to deal exclusively with oculomotor performance in a series that, up to this point, has been devoted largely to reviews of research on oculomotor anatomy and physiology. The publication of this volume signifies the recognition of the fact that a genuine understanding of eye movement will not come about through the study of neurons alone. We need to know about the capacity to make different kinds of eye movement, and about how such oculomotor capacity is used to accomplish different sorts of visual and cognitive tasks, i.e. how the eye can move and why it moves in particular ways. Research on respective topics was critically evaluated by the contributing authors, resulting in a controversial and up-to-date appraisal of this subject.
