Book excerpt: 'A perfect introduction to art for parents and children to enjoy together.' - The Guardian A brand-new combined, revised, and expanded edition of the ground-breaking, iconic art book series for children - perfect for readers aged 7-12 Two decades ago, Phaidon published the first volume in The Art Book for Children series (adapted especially for children from Phaidon's iconic The Art Book), which quickly became beloved by children and parents the world over. To share its legacy with a new generation of readers, this combined, updated, and expanded edition pairs a selection of 'best of' artists from the original series with 30 brand-new contemporary entries. This single volume features 60 artists through a wide range of large-scale, full-page reproductions of their artworks, including paintings, photographs, sculptures, video, prints, and installations from across time and space. Each page showcases defining artworks by the artists, combined with an interactive and informative conversation, giving relatable and memorable contexts for children, and inspiring a curiosity and appreciation for the Visual Arts that will continue into adulthood. With a fresh new design, this book both features the 'best of' from the original two volumes, plus new entries, specially selected in collaboration with art historian and writer, Ferren Gipson. Ages 7-12

Book excerpt: The final in a series of three collectable books rediscovering the archives of AnOther Magazine, one of the world's most influential fashion magazines. Another Art Book looks back on the ambitious artistic projects commissioned exclusively for the magazine's pages since 2001, bringing together some of the most iconic names in modern art including Jake & Dinos Chapman, Yayoi Kusama, Hans Peter Feldmann, Yoshitomo Nara, Ernesto Caivano, Keith Tyson, Urs Fischer and Damien Hirst. Opening an early copy of AnOther Magazine, readers were immediately confronted with ten pages filled with nothing but art - be it Jake and Dinos Chapman's twisted vision of the Holy Land Experience, a hypnotic sea of dots penned by Yoyoi Kusama, or Damien Hirst's bloody skulls and severed heads shot by David Bailey (deemed so shocking the pages were sealed with glue). AnOther Magazine thereby subverted the expectations of readers accustomed to finding a bank of advertising at the front of magazines. Over the years the format has evolved, but AnOther Magazine's unique connection with the art word continues. In 2007 Dress Art paired fifteen artists including Jeff Koons, Annie Morris and John Isaacs with fifteen designers from Stella McCartney to Dolce & Gabbana, and challenged them to create fifteen unique dresses. The results brought together the fields of fashion and art as never before - worlds which have since become inextricably linked.

Book excerpt: Never has contemporary art been so popular as it is now; never has its audience been so big. In the rapidly changing and vastly expanding art world one thing hasn't changed, however: it is the artist that remains at the center of artistic universe. In fascinating and personal interviews seventeen outstanding contemporary artists reflect on what does it mean to be an artist today. By doing so, they provide a great material to analyze the most urgent questions of the current art system. What artistic values should prevail? How to define the artist when the notions of shaman, revolutionary and bohemian are no longer valid? What is the relationship between artist and their public? How to stay relevant for the artist herself/himself and for the world? As artists operate in close connection with curators, collectors, and gallerists, Marta Gnyp has given voice to a few excellent actors from these categories to make the picture more complete: Fran ç ois Pinault speaks about his experiences and his vision of contemporary art as a collector; Anthony d'Offay reflects on artists and the post-war art system from the perspective of a gallerist, while Demetrio Paparoni reflects on the state of contemporary art as an art historian, curator, and critic. Thanks to her profound knowledge of the art world as theorist and as insider - being art advisor, collector, art journalist - Gnyp could engage in deep conversations and when needed was not afraid to ask difficult questions. Reading the essay and the interviews, the reader gets a great sense of what do the artists do and think, and also what are the most challenging issues of our art system in general.

Book excerpt: A lot of photos taken with a camera were found over the years, most of the photos were quite successful. I noticed that more photos were taken from certain years than from other years, but luckily I was able to put some of the art I made on these pages and above all pictures of the works of art that no longer exist. At the beginning of 2021, I photographed a large part of the artworks in this book and attached photos taken years before that were stored on a memory stick and computer. While putting photos from the computer into a book, I noticed that some photos, mainly in some paintings, the colors did not correspond to the same color as the original painting, so I left such photos out. I wanted the pictures to be as original as possible. When I composed the pictures for this book, I thought about how the pictures should be presented and I concluded that the bigger the better. I tried that in some photos the image quality was such that the image corresponds more to the original when it can be presented in a larger size, while in some photos it was enough to present the image in a slightly smaller size. When the pictures were in place, I thought about what to say about the pictures. There was a lot to tell from each picture, but the more I told, the less I felt I should tell. I ended up telling the story of the work: "With the name of the work in quotation marks". Still, in several works I told something else and at the same time in many works of art it dawned on me why I made that work? Where have I done? In what state of mind have I done? What the hell symbols have I drawn there? Why have I ever given such a name to a work? And so on... And when more and more I had photographed and written names for the works of art, it struck me that this is how I have described my life through art. I guess this is my art book!
